seems our illustrious Senator Pat Roberts was one of the nine asshats who voted against the amendment to stop torturing American held POW’s and others held captive by US forces.
It is almost turning into fall here in redstate kansas and ghostdancers_way is looking into running for either the city commission or the county commission, still investigating where I can do the most good.
Running for office! If your county is as red as mine I can just imagine how hard that will be for you. Remember, their weapon of choice is usually personal destruction. Are you ready to face that? I’ll be worried about you and anxious for your reports.
My wife and I talked about it and this choice seems to be the best outlet for me to actively participate in decision making in my small county. I don’t know yet whether it will be county or city government but I know that both could use some refreshing newness to stir up the cronyism that is pervading my city and county.
Besides, like I said before, I have already pissed them off.
As for trying to destroy me personally, I survived a custody battle that I lost, where everyone except my lawyer was trying to destroy. The worst thing that came out of that 6 year battle was the loss of $225,000 and I started smoking cigars after having quit tobacco (cigarettes) for almost ten years.
I say let them throw their best shots and let the chips fall where they may. Damn I am starting to get energized about this run for office.
I see from down the thread that a fundraising day in the cafe is in the works. This is great news, Ghostdancer’s Way — one more reason to feel hopeful.
lil, I feel really good about the possibilities that running for this county seat will provide.
I believe the entire red state Democrats might get an idea of what is transpiring nationally if I can unseat a long time republican on a county commission.
Mornin…..watching Pelosi’s press conference, where she rebuted Bush’s statement, Iraq is Central front on war on terror.
Not good to wake up to Bush’s speech..
So how is everyone today!
My dogs are so excited about the book club that they can hardly control themselves (disclaimer: not controlling themselves is actually their normal state).
FYI, my order for Bayou Farewell sat around for 11 days at Powells, waiting they said for Bayou Farewell. When I finally got an email last week saying the order had shipped*, they canceled Bayou Farewell and said it was not going to be backordered. I’ve now ordered it from Amazon (good thing I’m a fast reader since they are showing delivery between 10-14 and 10-20).
* good news: the mass market paperback of “Ring of Truth” did ship. So go out and splurge — I’m thinkg the royalies might be enough for a small pack of chewing gum.
Since yesterday (I don’t remember the exact time), I have not been able to view images on the site — all I see is the little image icon — not even the “give ’em hell harry” picture gets displayed…I do see some of the other ad pix, but cannot see a thing in diaries or comments. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? In either case, any suggestions about how to fix it?
Er, ok, this is weird, in this thread, I can see Andi and her dogs, but I cannot see SallyCat’s mellow-ness — what is the difference in the way you all put up those pictures? From there I may be able to figure it out.
and may be persisting for a while. Reports over at Kos mentioned Photobucket in particular being affected. It had to do with some large vendors squabbling over fees and services.
It had to do with some large vendors squabbling over fees and services.
Could be the little tiff between Level 3 and Cogent [/.], which is causing some network issues. Pretty fascinating stuff, if the seamy underside of the Internet’s infrastructure interests you. FWIW, I can load Photobucket, albeit slowly.
Speaking of the Internets, another post at /. today focuses on how the EU wants to wrest control of the Internet away from the US by setting up their own root DNS servers. As one would expect, our current government is taking a unilateral, our-way-or-the-highway attitude towards Internet governance. In this arena, however, the EU and other nations do have a recourse to American jingoism. Heck, the Internet would probably be healthier with another dozen or so root servers around the place. (This has very little to do with the immediate problem, tho.)
Slow start to today. I had a hugely productive day yesterday but it went fourteen hours between writing, teaching, and driving, and then I didn’t get much sleep, so I’m beat. Plain old Earl Grey and a quiet corner to read the paper for me this morning.
Just woke up, so checking in before I get moving. Errands today, and hopefully more cleaning; spouse is off today and tomorrow. Oh, and just waiting to see what the day will bring, like everyone else.
And thanks to everyone who put my diary on the recommended list… 🙂
Cool! I go away for a bit and come back to a packed and happy cafe.
Ghostdancer’s way, I hope you run for something
I can’t get into Photobucket, either. I was going to post a photo of a courthouse, heh heh.
AndiF, I’ll ask Susan if she can nudge Powell’s again to get them to stock some more Bayou Farewell copies. Good thing you went ahead and got yours, though. I’ve got to start reading mine!
looking forward to running and I may ask for a single one dollar donation from many of the blog members that I visit to help me in my grassroots effort to shake up my city or county government. lol
thanks brin, with the 35 dollars I have saved to start my campaign, I now can say I have begun in earnest. lol
Financially I don’t have a clue what this will cost, I have read that others in their run for city or county positions have spent upwards of 3K, so I am hoping to find some help from the Democratic party of Kansas if possible and from the blogs as well as any money I can scape together myself.
Looks like it is going to be fun, haven’t had my name posted all over someplace since I won Associated student body presnit way back in 1984 when I was going to a local community college and the young americans for freedom (YAF) were trying to take over the student government and gut it. Someone convinced me I could beat them and we did. lol That Prop 13 in California was just starting to hit the community colleges and big hits in non essential things like periodical subscriptions, tutorial services were being cut by the Admin, we in student government made sure that money was made available to insure those things continued to be available to students who needed them. Just a few of the things that we did back then. Oh yeah we had an annual budget of 200K to work with and because the YAF who controlled student government for two years spent less than 25% of each of its two years of budgets we had lots of money to help out our students. The only redeeming thing I can say about YAF, back then.
I just wish it could be more, gdw, I REALLY admire you for doing this!!
but I’m pretty sure the trustee for the bankruptcy proceedings will not look kindly on any contributions at all at this point….hey, I know, maybe ejmw and/or shycat will let me send you some of the money they sent me — I still have some left!
😉
and for your information all, I am officially declaring as the Democratic candidate for District 1 county commission seat of Franklin county Kansas. Lets see where that takes me next. I pick up my packet from the county clerk next week, even though they won’t have all the information until after jan 1 06, but hey I need to know what I need to do to set up all this good stuff.
Great Spirit I surely hope you know what the hell I am doing, lol
anyway I will keep you all informed as I go along here, first order of business is my 35 dollars and 35 registered voters signing a petition officiall gets me on the ballot.
On the day that all systems are go, how about if we feature you in the cafe? We were going to do that with another candidate recently, but she dropped out of the race before we could! So why not do it for you? You’re one of our own! If your financial stuff is ready to go, we could raise $ for you that day. You could give a little “speech” and answer questions. What do you say?
thank you for offering, I will be working diligently to get all the paperwork and financial accounting in place so people will actually be able to see where their money is going in support of my running for this office.
It is going to be a really strong uphill fight as Franklin county is pretty red and the current commissioner is pretty entrenched, but that may work to my benefit with all the infighting going on among the commissioners and the county clerk and the new county administrator. I am actually looking forward to joining the battle in a democratic republic.

Thanks for including me, GDW. And put me down as another who wants to know once you get a donation system set up. I can’t send much at the moment, but I’ll be happy to give a few buck at least.
dairies and thoughts KMc, you make me evaluate what I believe and correct my own misconceptions, I thank you for that and look forward to more of your writing.
Hoo! What a cabinet — let’s run for national office! 😉
My first act as Sec.Ed is to demand that congress go back to the drawing board and retool NCLB — I will refuse to enforce ANY unfunded mandates and taxpayer give-aways to for-profit ed. mamgement and testing companies will stop immediately. We will hold a series of town hall meetings (and interactive video conferencing and live-blogging will be available to every single district in the country) to formulate a new direction for public ed. in the US. One of my ideas will be a citizen audit of all federal ed. monies and trimming the fat at the state level.
you are a straight shooter and don’t mince words, I like that about you, makes me feel safe, like I always know where you are coming from. You are a decent and warm human being that I am glad to say that I know some and am looking forward to getting to know more in the future.
Wow — have you all conspired to swell my head and heart today? First IndyLib and now you?
😉
You don’t know how much your kind words mean to me, gdw, I admire you immensely and hope some day to be able to give you a big huge hug and your wife too — she sounds like my kind of person. I will do everything I can to support you in this endeavour — it is an amazing thing that you embark on!
Hey cool., secretary of homeland security, that is a post I would love to have. Thanks Ghost, looking forward to your election….
And let me add my name to the list of your supporters who will contribute….
I am hoping you will reconsider Boston Joe and name him attorney general…in line for supreme court…
Ghost, I am so happppppy that you are really doing this and we will be encouraging you all the way…..
I miss my long hair, but it turns out I just don’t have the genes for it. I shaved my head once the stuff on top got too thin to protect me from sunburn (at age 26). I like to refer to it as preemptive strike on my receding hairline.
Which reminds me, I didn’t get around to posting a pic on the post your picture blog day, and I’m not up to the html challenge right at the moment, but if anyone want to know what I look like they need only hit google image search and type in “kelly mccullough”. Pretty much all the shots of a bald guy that come up are me.
That’s what we’ll do. As the time approaches, just let me or any of the other cafe hosts know when you’d like to do it. Naturally, since you’re our fellow Kansan, Katiebird or I would love to “introduce” you, but you pick the date that is right for your campaign, no matter what day of the cafe week it is,okay? We won’t need much advance notice, though a couple of days would be great so we have time to put a nice diary together.
you kansas and katiebird can work out the particulars, because it honors me greatly that all of you would introduce me.
Not much on self promotion but I understand I will have to do some of that if I want to win this election coming up. I figure just being honest and letting people know what I believe in and what I propose for the future of Franklin county is going to get me pretty far along.
I figure I will the republican throw rocks all he wants if that is what he needs to do to win and just let them bounce off me and stick to the facts.
I knew things were looking up in this state. When you’re ready to go public – let’s be sure to get your campaign connected with http://ksprogressives.org/
I’m sure you’ll find some backing there! And a donation from this Wichita boy will be forthcoming.
the bullshit the school board is pulling, coupled with the ties local R’s have with DeLay – might just be enough to help us turn this backasswards state purple.
Setting up a paypal account that would be a great way to let people make donations — and I expect that many of us would like to give more than a dollar.
It seems to depend on where you are. I did an experiment where I connected via earthlink’s 800 number instead of my local number and I could get to photobucket. But once I wen back to my local number, no more photobucket.
Looks like it’s available from Barnesandnoble.com, if Powells doesn’t get them in time. (B&N is blue ya know!) And… your local library could probably find you a copy quickly if it’s not on the shelf there already.
WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutors have accepted an offer from presidential adviser Karl Rove to give 11th hour testimony in the case of a CIA officer’s leaked identity but have warned they cannot guarantee he won’t be indicted, according to people directly familiar with the investigation.
…The word on the streets of Washington and in the halls of the Pentagon is that Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld is seriously considering handing in his letter of resignation sometime this month….
Just remembered to post this, my Indictments Galore diary ran in our local paper. This line “I can already hear the Republican apologist brigade warming up to declare this a partisan witch hunt” got the “in your words” cover quote, top left corner and the first thing a person sees when they pick up the paper. I’m running about sixty percent success in grabbing the corner quote with my letters, and about seventy percent at landing in the prime LTE spot center right on the editorial page, next to the cartoon.
The letters also generated a very interesting call from one our state level Democratic officials who asked me to be part of an effort to coordinate progressive messages to the media. I haven’t got the details yet, but I figure if the state level party is willing to listen to me, it’s my duty to do what I can.

First off. Rooting for the San Jose Sharks AND the Boston Bruins (hockey) and the Red Sox last night REally really really really really really really fucking really really really sucked.
LOL
Just got Danni’s bday cake and some witchie poo stuffins for her Coven tomorrow. We totally LOVE Halloween and so she’s having a very special party with some special girls AND AND AND invited her brother to attend. So got the gift bags (which are trick or treating bags) full of what every good witch needs. … A bunch of cool shit! 🙂 We aren’t UGLY withces here… NO WAY. We are lovely and prettyful withces.
That’s it. That’s all I did today. LOL I haven’t even called up CNN to scream at them or my Representatives. And I sure as fuck didn’t watch Bush … Did he really say G-d told him to kill??? Holy fuckarollie.
And… I didn’t have a bad run in with a redneck. In fact, I had a lovely run in with a lady who finally voted and she was eager to talk and listen to me about CodePink and the march.
Shit… she probably was a plant… ACK!!!
XOXOXO
Salunga! The Flyers!! I used to love them now they have our old douchebag Rathje. Enjoy the Slothje gamekillah!! muhahahahahahaahha … I owe you a drink, buddy!
Olivia, Cali Scribe! HNIC in BooTribune! Let’s do it 🙂
Cool! I’m honored! But I don’t think I’m qualified, experience, schooled.. oh that’s right – those things don’t matter 🙂 Guess this means I don’t have to go to college 🙂 WHOOOT!
And here I was hoping to aspire to INTERN 🙂 LOL
I would love to stop my girlcott of the NHL 🙂 Since Mrs. Ski (momagainstthedraft) went and got tickets LOL… I’m a hockey lemming, sue me! 🙂
Our calendar… right now it’s holding it’s breath untill after this week due to my husband’s intese testing/interview hopefully JOB CHANGE thus move out of state decision in life and all that it entails… WHEW!
So all I do is plan on painting and shit LOL
So I will love to be able to say when some good dates are and I would be thrilled to come and shout my heart out at the tank with you. Hopefully we could all meet up before the game and sit and “chat”.
Thank you!!!!!!! Especially since I won’t be hollering at Rathje! 🙂
meaning Mrs. Ski lives right near the tank. Me… I only go to a few games a year because I live between
“Bumfuck Nowhere” and “You’ve Got a Pretty Mouth”, California 🙂
Howzaboot I email you by next Wednesday?? Or we can call each other? I’m so jazzed about it too 🙂
Yeah, and it was no fun to watch the Leafs get the short end of the first overtime shootoff either. Bah humbug. A point is a point I suppose. Oh, and now Sundin is out for several weeks. <sigh> Things are off to a rockin’ start at Air Canada Centre, eh?
Shoot Outs suck! IMHO. HOckey is a TEAM sport and then to break it down to the goalies… just not right. I’d rather have a tie, even though it’s reportedly like kissing your sister.
Extra Over Time is for Play Offs Time… the games till they run out of beer and water and toilet paper or till someone passes out in front of the net and the puck goes in.
Good to “see” you oh might and powerful BrotherFeldspar!
Yeah, like those 3-overtime (or was it 4?) marathons we had a couple years ago. I remember staying up ’til 1:30am for one of them. Pittsburgh & someone IIRC. I don’t know that this is a move that will win new fans. In the meantime, I, um, got rid of my jersey in disgust last year. It’ll still be a little while before I can bring myself to get a new one, I think.
I have ONE sweater. Got it for my birthday. AFter 8 years of following the Sharks. I wanted my number on it. “9” and hubby go tconfused and thought I liked the old #9 player Todd Harvey which then was with #13. So I have an old fashioned sweater with #13 and some asses name on it LOL
Wesley has a CuJo TML sweater that a lady gave him while I worked at the store. He loves Mats Sundin. He thinks all boys named Matt should be named Mats. 🙂
I haven’t bought any NHL crap this last… uh… season. The NHL and NHLPA pissed me off royally.
I gave the money we would have spent on the NHL to Amnesty Intl. 🙂
spend some of our new-found disposable income on the NHL; spouse definitely wants the media guide so he can keep the new faces straight, and I REALLY want to treat myself to a Sharks sweater, but not sure which number yet.
Keep me posted…at the very least, the spouse & I want to treat you to dinner before the game… 😉
What does everyone think about the subway alert in newyork, sound pretty suspicious to me, seems this is not that high level, homeland security did not know about it…they have known for several days, why today..take the news off Rove and Bush and meirs maybe….bloomberg a loyal Rep.. would sure do what Bush wanted, me thinks.
Sorry to be so slow posting this!
Will this be the big day?
What rhymes with indictment?
The excitment
of seeing the smitement
has me high as a kitement?
It is a crisp, cool, sunny morning in Republican Kansas. Just perfect for making Pat Roberts’ and Sam Brownback’s lives miserable today!
What would make you happy happy happy today?
Good morning Kansas! It’s good to see you 🙂
I’m actually getting stuff done, so I’ve gotta go, but I couldn’t resist a nice new cafe….
this as its title,
Pat Roberts supports torture
seems our illustrious Senator Pat Roberts was one of the nine asshats who voted against the amendment to stop torturing American held POW’s and others held captive by US forces.

again thank you
“Indicted” works better:
Will Karl Rove be indicted?
Boo Tribbers are all excited
Candles at mass are being lighted
May Pat FitzGerald end up knighted
Can anybody work these in, too?
incited
benighted
un-Righted
slighted
For leaving the congress all blighted.
He thought he’s immune
But Fitz calls the tune
And he’ll play the far right till they’re righted.
Remember the Pointer Sisters’ tune “I’m So Excited”?
I’m so excited
They’re gonna be indicted!
They’re about to lose control
And I really like it!
I love that! It’s our new theme song?
Nothing says “raging hippie” like a tune from the Pointer Sisters….
OW…. brain cramp
🙂
It does kind of damage my “disco sucks” cred, doesn’t it?
Oh, thank goodness, kansas, I just got finished watching Bush’s latest propaganda catapult and I feel a bit queasy!
Nothing better than a FBC to get me feeling right again. Whew!
How is everyone this monring??
Mornin…..watching Pelosi’s press conference, where she rebuted Bush’s statement, Iraq is Central front on war on terror.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW look at those poooodums! 🙂 When I read in bed, my cat has to come and plant her furry ass right on my book.
Other than fighting with a nasty cold I’m getting ready for vacation…starts tomorrow!!! Yippee!!!
Encouraging everyone to drop by and visit my little blogspot – a little endeavor to show the Pagan / quiet side of me….Mountain Cerridwen
Almost ready for winter….in full nesting preparation mode! In the meantime I’ll drop lots of 4’s at lunch time!

Susanhu as press secretary — so she can have dinner with Keith Olbermann once a week… 😉
And with the advances in the Internet, I think we need a Cabinet-level “Secretary of Technology”. Not sure who’d I’d put in that role.
You could probably put me in at FEMA, since I’m used to disasters — at least I’d head over to the Red Cross and get some real disaster training… 😉
Will plain old juttis do, and for special occasions, the reindeer fur boots?
Can I work under Diane as the head of the Border Patrol? O:-)
This is great news GDW, I’m also willing to help with contributions. You would make a fine representative of the people.
you get the dept of Energy,
we long haired hippy types need to stick together and try to solve the damn energy problems hurting our country.
We won’t need much advance notice, though a couple of days would be great so we have time to put a nice diary together.
keep all of you in the loop as things progress, still waiting to hear from the kansas Democratic HQ to know what help they will offer.
I am looking forward to pushing forward to open up my county government.
just way to much cronyism going on there.
Buttttt, I was the first to talk to Ghost when he landed here eons ago, so let me….just kidding of course, one of you two would be perfect.
you kansas and katiebird can work out the particulars, because it honors me greatly that all of you would introduce me.
All RIGHT
I knew things were looking up in this state.
I am joining them now and will keep everyone informed about how things develop.
I figure I have a year in which to build and sustain a local organization to help me get elected, even if I don’t get much help from the state party.
I believe Franklin county is getting tired of the same old cronyism that has permeated the county government for much of the last 20 years.
Lets see if a progressive can get elected in a red county.
….let us know and $’s are the way
thank you too, I will investigating how to set up a campaign finance committee so everyone will know where any money they donate will be going.
My wife is a financial wizard as far as tracking and utilizing our assets to their fullest. I guess I can appoint her the treasurer of the operation.
Again to you and brin, thank you
Setting up a paypal account that would be a great way to let people make donations — and I expect that many of us would like to give more than a dollar.
thanks andi, that means a lot, I will start working on the legal stuff through the party.
I have several emails out to kansas democratic party officials.
again all of you are the best
I was just able to get into Photobucket with no problem…and I’m seeing all the images too. Weird…
Going back to bed — just started feeling a bit queasy and achy…I don’t need to get sick… :'(
It seems to depend on where you are.
I love my local library but “quick” is not catalogued in their dewey decimal system.
Breaking news, Karl Rove is asking to testify again, and presecutors can’t guarantee he won’t e indicted.
Oh wow……just wowwwww
.
WOW – with link – Karl Rove to Testify ::
WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutors have accepted an offer from presidential adviser Karl Rove to give 11th hour testimony in the case of a CIA officer’s leaked identity but have warned they cannot guarantee he won’t be indicted, according to people directly familiar with the investigation.

oo! oo! I may faint. I know I shouldn’t get so excited about rumors.
before but GWB refused to accept the resignation — can’t think of any reason Bush would change his mind now…
crusadecom had failed to prevent unauthorized souvenir photo-snapping at the Abu Ghraib “Freedom Facility.”
Just remembered to post this, my
Indictments Galore diary ran in our local paper.
I just sent another one to my local paper, lets see where that goes.
Excellent, Kelly! (Your LTE and the phone call, both.)
Check out this New York statue of peculiar interest to Tribbers (note the bold portion):
Let’s do it 🙂
you are the director of communications in my new administration. Give em hell.
Cool! I’m honored! But I don’t think I’m qualified, experience, schooled.. oh that’s right – those things don’t matter 🙂 Guess this means I don’t have to go to college 🙂 WHOOOT!
And here I was hoping to aspire to INTERN 🙂 LOL
Congrats, I’m still “reading” all this 🙂
Wish I could make it to that party — sounds totally cool…. 🙂
When are you coming down to the Tank? The spouse and I have got to clear the social calendar… lol
I’m so jazzed about it too 🙂
Or yelling at CNN or your rep, either way you got the job, give em hell.
You do know that I tend to um… cuss, right??
Hey, doesn’t that make me VEEP material?? 🙂
Truly, when I start speaking, it’s like I’m (what’s the word) channeling. Especially if it’s something I’m very passionate about.
It takes me forever and ever edits to get stuff on paper or screen. I’m not as blonde as I type I am. 🙂
So I’ll be a most excellent SpokesGoddess for you. 😉
What does everyone think about the subway alert in newyork, sound pretty suspicious to me, seems this is not that high level, homeland security did not know about it…they have known for several days, why today..take the news off Rove and Bush and meirs maybe….bloomberg a loyal Rep.. would sure do what Bush wanted, me thinks.
ain’t it? Something to spin the attention away from those bastards. Oh look the sky is falling!
It’s not a CoinkyDinky. It’s more like, Hinky.
