Room at the top of the Stairs

When I was 16 I decided I wanted to go from living with my father and stepmother to living with my Mother who at that time lived in Johnstown, Pa.  It was a big decision and move for me, one that I had been planning for 3 years, plans to escape my step mother and her mental abuse.

Why Active Participation In Protests…..

And where are the ‘Koolaid Drinkers’ Kids [more on this in a moment]

For every active participant in an Action there are the invisible Likeminded, who for a veriaty of reasons, are not there with you. How many can be hard to gage, maybe 5, 10, 20, 30, more. Local actions give a rough gage to those numbers, horns honking, thumbs up, finger peace sign etc.. Iraq today – Iron Fist replaces :: Operation Restoring Rights

.
Sadah is a village of about 2,000 people on the banks of the Euphrates River about eight miles from the Syrian border in Iraq’s western province of Anbar. The isolated community has one main road and about 200 houses scattered over a rural area.

Two cars full of families, who fled the violence to spend the night in the desert, were hit at night killing all, including three children under the age of ten.

“Operation Iron Fist” in the town of Sadah near the Syrian border replaces the Tal Afar campagne named: “Operation Restoring Rights”.

Tal Afar, insurgents escaped before offensive by American Forces.

the end of oil – the best kept secret?

As some of you may have followed, I have been trying to build up a manifesto for an energy policy for the Dems (see this diary: Building together an effective Dem energy policy (I) ). The occasion to do this is an excellent 10-page article published this week-end in Le Monde, France’s equivalent to the NYT, where they introduce peak oil to their readers. Amongst the highlights:

  • Saudi Arabia “does not have the capacity to produce 15 mb/d” says Aramco’s n°2;

  • oil sands will never produce more than 5 mb/d, if that

  • Total’s CEO said “peak oil will be no later than 2025, and only if we have a demand crisis
