Hardball is now reporting that Fitz has received a copy of the fake Niger document. A copy above shows why it is such a laughable forgery.

When you know all the facts of how Stephen Hadley put those words in there “by mistake”, even after it was asked to be removed by the CIA–you will see it makes the 16 words a deliberate lie to Congress.

Rep. Maurice Hinchey led 40 Democrats in asking Fitz to expand his investigation to the Niger forgeries, sending a letter that outlined the crime of lying to Congress and the statutes that were broken by George W. Bush. By law, the GJ is required to hear any such request–especially one signed by 40 members of Congress.

If this is true Harwood of the WSJ said it would be an “earthquake” in Washington.

The INR (State Department Intelligence Agency) analyst that looked at this document wrote an email stating:

“You’ll note that it bears a funky Emb. of Niger stamp (to make it look official, I guess).”

I suspect the American people will warm to the concept of impeachment when they get a look at this document.

Deputy Dubya’s
Droopy Diaper Rap

You fell asleep on watch and let some bad guys blow us up, And when you
woke you swore to pay them back.
You then attacked a country that had never done us harm Which seems to
indicate it’s brains you lack.

You needed made-up reasons that you thought the rubes would buy.
You swore Saddam Hussein had done the crime.
You had Ms. Rice warn darkly of some sprouting mushroom clouds In
little less than forty minutes’ time.

Dick Cheney spoke of spies who may have met one night in Prague
Discussing who-knows-what? or when? or how?
He claimed that all this nothing added up to something big
That justified attacking Iraq now.

Don Rumsfeld claimed to know just where to find those awful bombs.
He said he knew exactly where they were.
That none had ever come to light disturbed him not at all; For dreams,
not facts, made better sales allure.

And Colin Powell played along and told the world untruths In service to
a man who oft betrays; And now no thinking person who resides on Planet
Earth Believes a single word that this man says.

our CIA did what it does, whatever that might be; And spent more
billions finding zilch to fear; But undeterred you pressed ahead until
the spooks agreed To tell you everything you longed to hear.

The Pet Press pundit sycophants fell quickly into line; For “access”
they had sold their souls for free.
You gave each one a nickname in return for which they swore To overlook
your rank stupidity.

Today is the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson died from a sniper wound at the height of the battle, his greatest victory and the battle that probably saved Britain from invasion by France and Spain.

OK, that doesn’t sound like a promising start to a happy story. But it is. I think. Join me on the flip to see.

Shock and Awe 1805

Exactly 200 years ago a notorious English adulterer died.  From a weedy boy he had grown to a 5ft 4inch high adult who was seasick whenever he sailed. He had openly set up home with his mistress and even took the cuckolded husband on their trips to Wales. Despite losing an arm and the sight in one eye he led a naval force chasing enemy fleets across the Atlantic from Europe to the West Indies and back to southern Spain. Despite having fewer ships with about half the guns of the opposing fleet, his final battle went down as one of the major naval victories in British history and arguably its influence even extends to modern shipping laws.  

I am of course speaking of Admiral Lord Nelson. The defeat of the combined French and Spanish fleets at Cape Trafalgar, just outside Cadiz put paid to any plans Napoleon had to invade Britain. At the end of the battle virtually all the usable battleships in the French and Spanish navies had been destroyed or captured. Two centuries later warships from the three nations jointly marked the anniversary by releasing wreaths on the waters that saw the deaths of so many brave sailors. It’s worth examining how the battle progressed and the victory was achieved because there are lessons that can be drawn for today in Iraq.
