May the 4’s be with you
I don’t know about you guys, but I could use a BLT. I’ll just pretend the Weight Watchers frozen entree I had for lunch was as satisfying. Blech!
It’s only 11:30 here but I am planning a
decadent lunch shortly. I’ll be having grilled American cheese & fried bologna sandwiches on white bread. Yes, plural, I’ll be having 2 of them. And then I will be having some Esther Price chocolates.
All of this is forbidden on my regular diet but since I’m finally well enough to have my tooth extraction next week (I hope, anyway, I’ve been waiting 2 months already), I figure I should eat whatever I want this week.
I worship at the altar of fried bologna sandwiches… and two of them? Be still my cholesterol-laden heart.
I worship at the altar of fried bologna sandwiches – SN that’s a classic line
Indy enjoy yourself, you deserve it.
FBC post….
Back on line after 48 hours with no computer…office is painted, new desk is assembled, and all the junk is still to be sorted or trashed!.
A short break and then another day of meetings…so Hi everyone! on my way through.
Pootie love to everyone!
What a cute picture! And thanks for the drive-by quickie.
Absolutely wonderful picture. That looks like an older pony… what a face. And the kitty giving kissies! I’m saving this pic.
I’ve been mentally putting together this list – here’s what I’ve got so far:
Products I couldn’t live without
-Olay regenerist daily regenerating serum
-Edy’s French Silk (light!) ice cream
-cotton 3/4 length tees from Old Navy
-Stegmann wool clogs
-Arm & Hammer flushable cat litter
-Bodum 4-cup french press
-half and half
-Excedrin
-Carmex lip balm
-100% egyptian cotton sheets
-disposable toilet brushes
Mine isn’t anywhere near that cool…..
-Fleece: tops, jackets, skirts – if it’s fleece I love it
-Denim jeans
-French Roast coffee…brewed anywhere, anytime – preferrably while camping
-Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss and the Almond Milk Hand Cream
-Hiking Boots
-Cooking spices (not salt) for making any food yummy!
-Books….any and all kinds except horror…
That’s it folks….
I love Burt’s Bees stuff, and they’re a local company!
-teva sandals
-ben and jerry’s ice cream
-origins ginger dead sea salt scrub
-bobbi brown lip tint with sunscreen
-my cashmore fleece blanket
-my ipod
My daughter told me just yesterday that when her boyfriend took a shower here he tasted my brown sugar body scrub! She says he’s the type who thinks that everything that smells good must taste good too.
mmmmmmm….originssssssssssss……
the comforting solution, peace of mind, and nite a mins.
yum
Hey I love my Bodum press, too. Just bought Bodum stemless stemware – wine glasses that will wash in her dishwasher 🙂
Let me take a crack at this but I can live without them… so renaming it to:
Things I really dig having
Oil of Olay SPF moisturizer
New Seasons Market and everything in it
Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo
Mother Nature for Insomnia and Nightmares
DVD player
Hockey chat and hockey friends
Booman chat and booman friends
CodePink wear and gear
SatsumiOil from bath and body that I got as a shishifrufru gifty to myself from myself
ALMOND ROCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that Satsuma orange stuff from the Body Shop. I have the oil that you drop into the burner. Smells yummy.
evidently the body shop has discontinued the satsuma line …im devastated…my daughter went to our local BS and bought the rest of the satsuma body wash they had in stock and gave it to me for christmas….she is a good daughter.
Have you had those Ferrerro Raffaellos? God, they’re good. Better than roca.
Oh boy — a chance to consider the ‘woodland essentials’ list! Let’s see ..
While I suppose you CAN buy trees, that part doesn’t seem to be in the spirit of the essentials list. Just trying to make the rest of us look bad?
No, not at all! I was just thinking honestly about stuff that makes my life enjoyable — & considered the wood-stove fire (with matches), newspapers, books, my old round table, my favorite bowls .. all made with the use of trees 😉
Mmmm…bread. I am a certified bread slut. ANd it must be bakery bread from that very day, either whole grain or crusty Italian.
I love bread. There’s no desert that can tempt me to forgo a really good piece of bread. And if there’s good olive oil too …
If I had to give up everything and eat only one kind of food for the rest of my life, it would be bread with olive oil. Can I sprinkle on some spices too?
Most definitely — and I’ll be right over.
In retrospect my list seems rather materialistic.
. my library cards (I have cards for three different counties)
. dog biscuits (I couldn’t live without these because the dogs would kill me)
. every device I have that plays music
. book shelves
. 19″ lcd monitor
. my hiking boots
. convertible pants (best thing for hiking ever invented)
. sandals
you mean you hike around with the top rolled back?
What the heck are they anyway?
That’s almost it — they are long pants with zip-off legs so that they become shorts. They even have zippers in the removable legs so you can slip them off over your boots.
Here’s a REI pair of men’s convertibles in case my description doesn’t make sense.
If the spouse and I ever do any hiking, those definitely go on the list…we’ve got an REI a short bus ride from here. 🙂
They very handy for traveling too since you get both long pants and shorts from one piece of clothing.
NDD, ya need to get out more man…
Cargo pants w/ removable legs to make shorts…best thing since sliced bread…almost.
Peace
Send me a ticket then, you smartalec!
MachoMahn in these here parts probably wouldn’t be caught dead in either convertible pants with the bottoms removed, or shorts.
For me, if, and when it gets that warm in ND I’ll just run nekkid.
Now if they’ll make them lined with fleece like my Patagonia core layers I’d be a verrrrry happy girl!
A list of stuff I’m surrounded with that seems to have no enjoyment potential whatsoever:
things I can not do without
COFFEE!!!
icecream
The Diva Dogs
dog treats for the Diva Dogs
Cartoons
Books(I read anything and everything)
good wine
good friends
bagels with cream cheese and lox
Nuetragena shower gel
Chai Green Tea
A few of my favorite things:
Adagio TriniTea tea maker
A whole list of teas from Adagio and Upton
Body Shop Almond Oil Daily Hand and Nail Creme
L.L. Bean barn coat
Cyndi Buck Design (clothing for the sophisticated hippie)
Palm Tungsten E
Crocs (purple and pink)
Fountain pens (a 1926 red Parker Duofold in particular)
Books, books, books
Feline Greenies and a Drinkwell cat fountain (to keep the little monsters happy)
Just got an iPod, but I’m kinda loving it.
An ex-boyfriend years ago described me as an “idealistic materialist,” and damn it, looks like he was right.
Idealistic materialist, huh? I like that.
I was horribly offended at the time (I was in my early 20s), but nowadays, as long as I keep my priorities straight, I don’t begrudge myself a few creature comforts.
Awww…the little kindergarten girls who are home from school today just came over to see if they could play with my dogs…how cool.
awwwww
Kids (in unison): Please Cabin Lady, can we play with your dogs? PLeeeeeeeeze?
CG: Get outta here kids –i didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night. I’m warning you, I’ll sic the chickens on you! Better yet, I’ll sic the shih-tzu on you. And don’t ever come back here again! sheesh.
Ha, they love my chickens: “Miss Cabin, can we get the eggs?” And the shih-tzu is their favorite.
I do need a nap though. grrr.
Ah, to hear the little plunk and splash of koi kissing the surface of the water.. the drone of insects… the flutter of papery wings of a passing dragonfly. I think I have pre-spring fever.
I have a meeting I need to go to. I’ll be back later – talk amongst yourselves.
Grandkids 2005-06
Whenever I get tired of the political fight something reminds me of why I fight so hard….like getting the grandkidlets’ school pictures!
So…off to work harder to save for their college fund and off to politics tonight to fight for their future.
What beautiful children, SallyCat! Thanks for sharing their photos. They look like terrific kids.
Agreed: the children are why we do our work; we’re not immortals, after all. To my mind, this includes not only the children I’m blessed to know, but all the others, too — past, present & future.
What beautiful grandkids. I don’t have kids or garndkids but I fight for the future of all kids.
Just got back from the grocery store. Met a lady from Holland and she told me…
Bush is a killer and a liar and he isn’t even good at either.
Then some college boy asked “You don’t like Bush? But… but… what about his moral issues like abortion and abstinence?”
I said if I wanted morals I would got to church not to the whitehouse. I said also “I hope your female loved ones in your life can abstain from being sexually assaulted” wouldn’t want Bush’s morals getting in the way of their medical care and needs.
I don’t think he likes me. But I got a hug and TWO kisses from the eldery lady from Holland. 🙂
I think I pissed off the wannabe Dems in here. I blame it on … Boston JOe 🙂
One hug from an old Dutch lady is worth two from the college boy. Good for you, DJ!
A proposal for a new telvision show: DJ Goes to the Grocery Store — think the West Wing crossed with South Park.
You and my mom should go to the grocery store together. She comes out knowing the entire life story of everyone in her line and anyone else she scoped out the broccoli with. You set them straight. You two would be an unstoppable combo. You’d probably be banned at Wal-mart.
Thanks a zanozillion to all of you who wished me luck on my job interview!! I was great, and could feel the power of the Boo-Team in my corner!
Yes, AndiF, it would be heaven to find someone more enlightened to work for than my current boss, but I think this experience (which was in SF a 120 mile drive from here) was definately a page from the “It Could Be Worse files.”
Glad you felt us all there. I was thinking about you today! Come on over to the FB Lounge and have a beer on the house.
So it’s the perfect situation for the Pollyana glad game — i’ll be able to come up with some good to say no matter how it turns out. 😉
I lost my cheat sheet on how to post a link, but the new lounge is open.
…[ labele then type url ]
no space between brackets and one space between label and the url
Good gawddee lahdee I sho nuff shudint be givin any pointers out : )
Okay, I found the lounge.
I’m RobertP and I’m an internetaholic. I grew up the son of a poor black sharecropper.

Okay, really, I was born into a nice working class family. My dad was off trucking when I was born. He did that until he lost his license for too many bennie-induced speeding tickets. Then he went to work in the coal mines, which he continued until Reaganomics cost him his job. After that he bounced around and ended up in the logging industry, where he still is. My mom grew up in North Carolina, which is where I ended up. My mom raised all three of us kids the right way and she didn’t even need help from Focus on the Family.
I went to undergrad in Pennsylvania, Grad school in FL, postdoctoral work in NC and FL, and now back at UNC. I’ve got a blog linked down there in my sig line, which you are welcome to take a gander at. It’s new and I’m still the only member : )
My favorite color is blue, my favorite tree is the Liberty Tree, my favorite word is Blue, my likes are Blue Democrats and my dislikes are neocons, Republicans, neocon Republicans, and Elizabeth Dole.
The first President I recall is Carter and the hostage crisis. The first President I voted for was Bill (Birthday was a month too late to vote for Dukakis).
Shew, I haven’t revealed so much of myself since…well, that’s another story.
Robert P I saw your post here. Come on over to the lounge for Happy Hour 2 and join the fun.
