Hope you had a nice holiday. It was really a beautiful day here. The woods have greened up an incredible amount in the last couple of days; watching things gradually come back to life is one of my favorite things about living out here.
Yep, it’s exciting, and then I talked to my sister and she’s putting me in touch with a group of people who are pushing for Healthcare for all in Kansas — which is my other longterm project.
Just spent the last 1.5 hours cutting grass in the back yard. My neighbor did the front for me this am. My yard is not that big I am just that lazy that it was overgrown. I will not let that happen agaion as that might be why we had the little visitor. LOL
Sitting in the courtyard…took over the Bu’s chaise…listening to Cassandra Wilson’s first album for BlueNote, got a cold paralyzer in hand and chilling’ big time.
Hope everyone had a good day…very lazy at Casa Dada…and showing no signs of changing.
Do — spent some time in Little India eating wonderful food (samosas!), visited with all the family, had a wonderful family dinner, and of course, had great chocolate.
Drive — good, we seemed to be going the opp way all the time so traffic was light.
Weather — thunderstorm on fri night which knocked out the power for the night, but the rest of the w/e was sunny and warm… lovely!
Now what’s this about your situation — you’ve got family visiting again? How’s that going?
Actually I was kidding about all the questions, but I’m happy to see you home safe and happy to know you had a good time.
My situation. It looks like it will be an extremely long visit. Although it hasn’t been to bad of a burden so far.
My biggest problem is no Air Conditioning. It’s supposed to be 92F/33.3C tomorrow and down here it is miserable. Hopefull tomorrow they will have it fixed.
When they come in to fix the AC they are going to fix the ceiling and everything else.
I’m happy about the AC, but kind of sad about the ceiling. I figured that could be another adventure in home repair. Where those adventures take me, I never know.
However, my eternal quest for perfect slackdom is being hijacked. I will have to move a lot of stuff out before they do the repairs. Since they have to repaint the ceiling I figure this is the best time to just go ahead and for me to repaint the entire room.
I’m really becoming to mobile lately. I long for the old days of naps.
I set up the “Nature” screensaver for his account on the iMac; I’ve got the “Cosmos” screensaver. His wallpaper is the river stones; I’ve got a “Sharks NHL Playoffs 2006” wallpaper that a friend on my favorite hockey site whipped up. 🙂
Olivia — how are the Senators hanging in there? Sharks clinched 5th place yesterday; spouse and I were there and we’ll be at the home finale tomorrow night. 🙂
More or less recovered from the tax ordeal; we’ll mail them tomorrow. Figure by the time the check gets deposited and cleared we’ll have the large check I’m expecting from my sister, which covers the taxes and then some. Next year will be far easier; one W-2, two 1099-INTs and no 1099-Rs.
Oh Cali… the Sens are doing terrible!!! They’ve lost the last 6 of 7. Gah. Not the way to head into the p-offs. I stated this w/e, that if they make it through the first round I’ll be surprised, if they make it past the second I’ll be shocked. They’re playing like crap.
With the status of No. 1 goalie Dominik Hasek unknown and Emery nursing a hip injury, Ottawa’s goaltending is going to be called into question this week with the playoffs set to begin on Friday. [link]
OTOH — your guys are rocking. Cheecho is on fire! Thornton… The best way to head into the p-offs. Have fun tomorrow night. I’ll be cheering them on too, for you and DJ.
for the Sens to totally shut down Jagr on Tuesday, so Cheechoo can take the Rocket Richard and J. Thornton to take the Ross (and hopefully the Hart as well)… 🙂
Going to be a great post-season here, I hope…signs that the media is jumping back on the bandwagon are evident, as a local columnist is referring to the team as “our beloved Los Tiburones” (Spanish for Sharks)…
My brother bought a book on purebred dogs a while ago. He was looking through it today and showed me this. This is the spitting image of George
Now George is a mutt. He’s half Pekinese and half Wire Terrier. So I was wondering if he’s like a Prince and the Pauper type thing. Has he been fooling me all these years?
I would never ask one of them to keep him for any lenght of time. So in all the time I’ve had him I’ve never left him for over 4 days and that’s at the vets.
Well I’m afraid my lack of slackdom lately and geezerdom are saying it’s time for me to call it a night.
I’m happy to see you home safely and I’ve got a ton of questions about the site.
Actually, I met a guy who was a LocScout once, he was in Co looking at potential places to shoot…rode a chair lift and skied a couple runs w/ him…cool guy, very cool job.
but having a good eye for photography would, in my estimation, be a very good thing. IMS, you’ve been involved in the arts as a profession for a long while…perhaps you have contacts that may be helpful.
What have you got to lose? You’re unemployed…no offense, so am I; It’s just called it self-unemployment – no bennies… :{)
Certainly worth looking into. I wish I could do something with photography. I just love being out with my camera. I truly get lost in time and it’s a good feeling.
Oh, yet, and tomorrow I plan to send out some job resumes and get organized for moving the rest of my stuff back to LA. Plus slack off and take naps. I think that should pretty much fill up my day. Also, I rented some movies, My Life So Far to drool over Colin Firth and then November which I don’t know anything about but hope it’s good. I also bought the Hayley Mills version of Parent Trap which I love and have never seen for sale before.
Nope, this is towards the beginning when he happens upon Lizzie as she arrives at Netherfield with muddy skirts and fly-away hair on her way to see Jane.
I guess he took it seriously since he and Jennifer Ehle were having a mad passionate affair. I wonder how she looks back on that time…. Playing one of the dearest characters ever written and boffing Colin Firth on the side. Where do you go from there?
It feels totally great, and the first time in my life that I haven’t been scared shitless to be out of a job. I guess I feel confident that I’ll find something else pretty soon. What a relief never to have to go back to that oppressive work situation!
Hey all. More MSOC madness over at Daily Kos. The stubborn nature of that particular person really frustrates me. She may be a passionate person and a great person, but she does not see the bigger picture strategically. Politically adept, but not so in other manners.
Hi Olivia, dada, MM, psi, and anyone I missed! Sounds like everyone had a great day… mine was rather relaxed, though it was spent at “in-laws” for the most part, which kept me from getting anything done around here. 🙁 Really didn’t feel like a weekend since I had so much work to do, then stormy weather and hanging out too late last night, lol.
I’m reposting this since I doubt very many saw it last night, and when I found it I thought of Olivia… there’s a part 2 to follow, if anyone wants it… more datura shots
Yes, it is! Some also call them “Angel’s Trumpet” as well … we call it datura, commonly known as “Jimson Weed” as well since if cows eat it, it drives them insane. Since you liked it, here’s part 2… I know Olivia will dig this!
Same flower, just a bit later…
Wow… thanks for that link! I knew it had cardiac and psychotropic properties but didn’t realize it was such a potent anticholinergic! That’s really interesting to learn, because anticholinergics are some of the main components of a fair amount of drugs used to treat neurological conditions. What springs to mind first is the use of anticholinergics in the treatment of Alzheimers, where, in theory, they help decrease the plaque load in the brain, which causes the deterioration of memory. That led me to think that it may have potential uses in neurological medicines. After all, we also have Foxglove (digitalis) which has been used as a treatment for heart conditions for centuries, but if ingested improperly or in the wrong dose, can kill you.
Psi, it is most definitely a flower, and not to be consumed by either animals or humans! They are very toxic and reputedly can cause irreparable madness. One of those gorgeous flowers with a bad rep, alas. Every year we get yapped at by one of our crazy neighbors who complains that we plant all these poisonous things in our yard… yes, the same idiot who has a yard with a bumper crop of poison ivy they are too lazy to do anything about. Go figure.
Hi IVG! I was hoping you’d pop in tonight! I was catching up on all the past w/e cafe pix and I saw these!!! They are so lovely — you’ve captured them so well. 🙂
Great to see you back, Olivia! I’ve been rummaging through some of my pics from a couple of years ago and am finding some great stuff. Just need to get them more organized so I know exactly what I have … btw, did you see the Toad Lily I posted yesterday? I was particularly proud of that one…
Thanks. Glad to see you’re still around, MM! Also great to read your comments upstream about how life after purgatory has been going for you. Reassuring to hear that you’re feeling reinvigorated and ready to take on the world again! Enjoy! I’m sure that the move will soon have you really busy, but it will all be worth it when it’s over!
Yup, I’m watching disaster shows and blogging on my laptop. Decadence has set in, maybe permanently.
Yesterday the rain let up for a few hours and I got out with my camera. 17 Mile Drive was absolutely crawling with tourists and I’m sure they thought I was pretty funny doing a belly flop to get a close up on this little poppy that was growing by the side of the road.
We have them in a lot of places in our beds, and are so happy they just keep on propagating themselves more and more each year. I suppose they might be considered a “weed” out your way, but such a lovely one. I noticed yesterday that we have them coming up already in the main front bed, so they will be appearing elsewhere soon, I expect. Plus we have a mega packet of them that we’re doing to throw around all over the place to get them going in even more spots. Much, very much to recommend these gorgeous beauties, not the least of which is they bloom all summer long! And they’re perfect fire colors for this “clumped up Leo” LOL!
I agree that poppies are just gorgeous, they always cheer me up. It’s illegal to pick them in California since they are the state flower. I always thought that was a pretty cool law!
I didn’t know that was the law … interesting! I would expect they grow in such proliferation there you’d not need to… just catch them when they put out those little bean like pods wait for them to ripen and take some seeds. But they’re so easily found in garden stores, you could just buy some and plant them yourself. They look especially pretty when planted in a situation such as this…
Yes, they are really lovely with the purple. Maybe when I get back to LA I’ll get inspired to do some gardening. It’s always more fun when there’s been a rainy winter.
Really, you just have to picture it with scores of tourists climbing all over each other to get a shot of the ocean and then this strange woman crawling around by the side of the road to take pictures of the poppies!
I hear ya there, dada! I shudder to think, now, of some of my younger antics. And wonder how I ever survived some of that madness. At least when I was on the verge of being arrested in a protest, the cops relented, and I escaped jail. LOL. Good night, friend.
Yes, it would make a good threat! Strange things I have done to get a photo….. I go out at high tide and feel that sooner or later it is inevitable that I will have a close encounter with a Rogue Wave. Maybe just as well I’m going back to LA…
Probably the worst water related thing I ever did was wade out into a Class V rapid to photograph kayakers during the Colorado Cup competitions on the Upper Arkansas.
Tennies, shorts, t shirt, camera…no brains…can you spell U. N. W. I. S. E. ?
Got some of them published in the CWWA newsletter tho…didn’t make a dime.
since just thinking of typing that brought back fond memories of hearing the Grateful Dead sing that song. I still miss Jerry. I still wish Bob Weir would just go away. Thankful that Mickey Hart still has most of his talent intact.
I must be getting to bed, since I was up way too late last night, had a tiring day of being pleasant and witty with elderly “relatives” and came home with a nasty headache that still doesn’t want to give up, lol. Had to take a nap earlier (see, FM has me in training now!) but still am exhausted. Probably will catch you all at some point tomorrow, but another stressful work day is hovering over me too soon.
We watched Capote last night and I was amazed, not only at Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance, but at the fact that it made me totally recast my rather negative opinions about Capote the man. A brilliant film, if you haven’t seen it yet. No sex appeal power of Colin Firth, to be sure, but if you appreciate stories about the birthing of literary works (as I do), it’s a real gem.
Good night, and keep the datura seeds out of your hamburgers!
Well, I got it to work that time, with a copy and paste. Now I’ll have to go to another diary, and see if my new saved bookmark works. Sigh; computers are fun, but sometimes…
Hi! How’s things?
Hope you had a nice holiday. It was really a beautiful day here. The woods have greened up an incredible amount in the last couple of days; watching things gradually come back to life is one of my favorite things about living out here.
Hi, Andi —
Between Easter stuff and doing taxes the day has flown by and I never spent the time here that I expected to.
But, it was a beautiful day here also. I just wish I didn’t have to go back to work tomorrow.
Things are great and I hope they are for you also!!!!
Hi KB. I’m still jumping for joy over your news.
Well maybe not jumping, more sitting.
Yea I’m sitting for joy over your news. 😉
Yep, it’s exciting, and then I talked to my sister and she’s putting me in touch with a group of people who are pushing for Healthcare for all in Kansas — which is my other longterm project.
So things are moving along.
Just spent the last 1.5 hours cutting grass in the back yard. My neighbor did the front for me this am. My yard is not that big I am just that lazy that it was overgrown. I will not let that happen agaion as that might be why we had the little visitor. LOL
Refinish – You let it get that overgrown.
Even I’m not the lazy. I think. 🙂
You could just plant your whole yard with wildflowers and never have to mow again.
I’m more in favor of concrete. It’s really very pretty.
concrete is not good for the puppies. They need grass
You said you had a neighbor didn’t you?
What’s a little dog poop between neighbors.
LOL that is not neighborly at all. I would never do that to a neighbor or even a stranger.
I’ve actually seen that done in the southwest (concrete painted green), along with yards that were entirely rock and wood chips.
I can understand the rock and wood chips and using native desert plant. But painting concrete a dark color?
I know just about every house in the world has dark color tiles, etc. on the roofs Just doesn’t make sense to me.
A white roof, maybe mirrors to reflect the sunlight. In the southern areas having anything dark that collects heat doesn’t make sense.
Then again, I could be wrong.
I guess having concrete that “looks” like grass is worth the heat it radiates — and I’m guessing they never walk on it.
Some of the yards that are rock and wood chips look pretty nice.
Yes I agree. That’s just one of my little rants about living in a southern area and picking dark colors to use on the exterior of your house.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Well it has rained most days when I was planning on cutting it and you cannot cut grass in the rain. LOL
You know that happens to me a lot when I plan to mow the lawn.
But, I always check the weather to set the day.
Well I am limited to weekends because of work and all my many meetings. LOL
Honestly I don’t see how you have the time with all you do.
Yes but that would probably lead to more little visitors and I can not handle that at all.
I am going to go take a quick shower and go out for dinner will check back later.
Peace
Ah yes. My message is spreading and I see a new convert.
I only strive to achieve such heights as you have obtained…with your guidance, and exemplary example I shall succeed, O wise One.
Peace
Many strive, but few achieve.
I definitely see potential.
curly and I had a beautiful afternoon in the Central Park Conservatory Gardens.

and I hope you had a really good book to read.
curly was reading BostonJoe’s Direct Actions, mine was more pulp-like.
It looks really beautiful there Ask.
Glad you and curly had such a good day.
Thank you!

The original plan was to lie out in the sun, but there was a cold draft – so we went for a walk in the Gardens instead. No regrets!
Beautiful photo! Makes me feel like I was there!
I’m back, but bearing no new photos — would you believe that I forgot my camera?! LOL 🙂
I’m not sure what it means, but it was the only thing I forgot even though it was the first thing I had sitting out in the to-go pile!
Hellooooooooo Olivia. We’ve missed you.
Have a good time, what did you do, who did you see, do anything special, how was the drive, what about the weather…….
YOU FORGOT YOUR CAMERA. 🙂
It’s nice to be home.
Good time — yes.
I hope you weren’t kidding about the missing me part too … 😉
Did you get your bedroom fixed so you have a place to escape to?
That’s the only thing I wasn’t kidding about.
Welcome back. I hope you had great weekend (or at the very least that it wasn’t too much of a strain).
It was a great w/e but it is even better now that I’m safely tucked away in my cave again lol.
How was your Saturday?
I certainly ate too much.
The best thing about this weekend is that the redbuds and the dogswoods both started flowering.
The new green is such a bright colour.
are so soft.
I’m off to bed. See you tomorrow.
Night Andi.
for your evening’s entertainment…HERE…even tho I know ya’ll aren’t political.
Enjoy
Were they scanned?
(thanks for the cartoon link btw)
Here or in the mail? [yOu got mail] :{)
I’m still playing with the scanner…getting HUGE files, even scanning at 50% capability.
I’m going to really like this once I sort it out.
one of kansas wheat and the ladybug (both super btw!)
I just checked mail, and I’ve taken a peek! Looks great (– I’ll send back an email.)
Ladybug’s out of the jpg stash that came w/ the mac…used it for trial purposes…’Kansas’ is from the DigCam…others are scanned.
Thanks…:{)
Next year will be far easier; one W-2, two 1099-INTs and no 1099-Rs.
tho I’ve tweaked it w/ some pix from HERE like this one:
Check the site out, beware tho it’s ‘time kill central‘
Enjoy
Cosmos screensaver — bet that’s a beauty. 🙂

It would be great to have a weekly diary where everyone submitted their favorite political/other cartoons.
How’s George? I just read about his bath — has he forgiven you yet?
He’s fine. He has gone ahead and forgiven me. But I am the one that feeds him and takes him out, so….
I’ve been brushing him a lot today and I’ve got to give him a hair cut. There are little tufts of hair floating around during the brushing.
So until he gets a haircut he’ll continue to keep getting a little mad at me.
Sounds dangerous — I’ve seen the new photos of George’s teeth. 🙂
Those must be his dominant genes… 🙂
What does your family think of George — you mentioned that he barks at them (except your Mom).
They go from toleration to pure dislike.
Night.
I’ll be awaiting your questions… 🙂 Sweet dreams.
Thanks for the link, dada!
Hi, Guys! Just woke up from my nap. I’ve been alternating slacking off and napping all day long…. living the good life, ay, FM?
This cutie was posing for animal crackers along the coast yesterday.
Hi MM. I was just signing out for the night, but wanted to say hello/good night before I left.
Take care.
Hello goodnight, FM!!!
You must have had some to get it’s attention like that…cool pic.
Thanks, dada. I’m guessing it thought I was a talent scout.
MM: Talent Scout…or since you’re heading back to El Lay…home of the [RW expletive here] film biz…think: ‘Location Scout‘…Whoa! Dream job!
Wouldn’t it just…. I think it’s my turn to have a fun job for a change…. 🙂
Actually, I met a guy who was a LocScout once, he was in Co looking at potential places to shoot…rode a chair lift and skied a couple runs w/ him…cool guy, very cool job.
Maybe I’ll look into it… Do you think location scouts are in demand?
but having a good eye for photography would, in my estimation, be a very good thing.
Good choice mm. 😉
Sorry, couldn’t resist!
But why? Now you’re just egging me on! (The directions in the script for this scene were that Mr. Darcy had an erection.)
We got eggs…Sunny side up?.
Scorching hot!
Is this clip of when he jumps in the lake w/ his clothes on?
Nope, this is towards the beginning when he happens upon Lizzie as she arrives at Netherfield with muddy skirts and fly-away hair on her way to see Jane.
Yes, that scene would ahem arouse that sentiment, but I think I prefer the not-so-overt display… 🙂
Really! I doubt it’s what Jane Austen had in mind, but certainly gave CF the imagery he needed to inpsire a classically smoldering characterization.
… to read the entire script in that state, b/c he was classically smoldering 24/7. 🙂
I guess he took it seriously since he and Jennifer Ehle were having a mad passionate affair. I wonder how she looks back on that time…. Playing one of the dearest characters ever written and boffing Colin Firth on the side. Where do you go from there?
mm — you’ve cracked me up tonight. Yes, one of those surrealllllll experiences I’m sure… 😉
BTW, did you see then new P&P w/ kiera knightley(?)…
I’ve seen it twice and I’m still trying to like it. I think the BBC adaptation has just about ruined me.
He’s looking right at you!
Hi, Olivia! How are things in your neck of the woods?
But want I really wanna know — how’s it feel to be free!?!?!
It feels totally great, and the first time in my life that I haven’t been scared shitless to be out of a job. I guess I feel confident that I’ll find something else pretty soon. What a relief never to have to go back to that oppressive work situation!
I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you in your search. {{{mm}}}
Thanks, {{{olivia}}}! Moral support makes all the difference.
Hey all. More MSOC madness over at Daily Kos. The stubborn nature of that particular person really frustrates me. She may be a passionate person and a great person, but she does not see the bigger picture strategically. Politically adept, but not so in other manners.

isn’t that commonly called a ‘moon flower’?
Yes, it is! Some also call them “Angel’s Trumpet” as well … we call it datura, commonly known as “Jimson Weed” as well since if cows eat it, it drives them insane. Since you liked it, here’s part 2… I know Olivia will dig this!
Same flower, just a bit later…
Ahh, the old ‘Jimson Weed’ gambit…the true cause of mad cow disease…quick…call the FDA.
I was googling last week looking for seeds and importing etc., and I came across this link:
Datura Poisoning from Hamburger — Canada . Actually, the CDC has a few articles on both intentional and unintentional poisoning… 🙂
Wow… thanks for that link! I knew it had cardiac and psychotropic properties but didn’t realize it was such a potent anticholinergic! That’s really interesting to learn, because anticholinergics are some of the main components of a fair amount of drugs used to treat neurological conditions. Is this a flower or a type of vegetable? Sorry for being ignorant about food!
Irreparable madness, eh? That sounds kind of exciting…
Not worth the concomitant other things that go on with it, if you ask me! 🙂
Hi IVG! I was hoping you’d pop in tonight! I was catching up on all the past w/e cafe pix and I saw these!!! They are so lovely — you’ve captured them so well. 🙂

I think I saw it, but I think you should post it again!
Here it is… when I get the newer ones resized and uploaded to PB, I’ll post some more later this week maybe.

lovely shot, IVG!

It’s always more fun when there’s been a rainy winter.
phrase coined by JimF. The best kind… 😉
Hillarious! Wet belly and gritty knees…
a good story to tell when they get home…
“ya’ll not gonna b’leve what we saw in Carmel…” LOL
Really, you just have to picture it with scores of tourists climbing all over each other to get a shot of the ocean and then this strange woman crawling around by the side of the road to take pictures of the poppies!
Here’s some more of the little fellers.
I’ve done some pretty bizarre stuff to get a pic…some of it considered neither safe nor sane.
Got some good one’s tho.
Would you share one of your moments? 😉
Yes, dear dada, enquiring minds want to know!
There was a time when I was rather crazy…I try not to go there very often now…
I hear ya there, dada!
Maybe just as well I’m going back to LA…
opps I meant thread not threat!
I’m glad you lived to tell the tale! Would love to see the pics…!
w/ anything special? You didn’t just wade into water unprotected camera-wise did ya?
since just thinking of typing that brought back fond memories of hearing the Grateful Dead sing that song.
Hope your h/a is gone when you wake up. 🙂
Me too.. and thanks for the kind thoughts. See you soon!
wherever you are…I’m smoke.
Here’s another Saturn pic from Cassin/i, courtesy of the fine folks at NassA

Sleep tight
Good night

then I’m mirrors! At least mirrors don’t get blown into certain body parts…. 🙂
G’night Olivia.
G’morning everyone else.
I just tried to use the Robo-Rater; got an error page…
Oh well. Maybe this rookie is doing something wrong, maybe it does not work with firefox?
Well, I got it to work that time, with a copy and paste. Now I’ll have to go to another diary, and see if my new saved bookmark works. Sigh; computers are fun, but sometimes…
