When the CIA announced on Friday that it had fired an employee who the agency claims “knowingly and willfully shared classified intelligence” with a newspaper reporter, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, immediately praised the agency’s action, saying that “unauthorized disclosures of classified information can significantly harm our ability to protect the American people.” [..]
Now Waas’ revelation may shed some light on Roberts stall on the Iraq intel debacle. Josh Marshall has this blurb
“You’ll remember how Sen. Roberts (R-KS), Chairman of the Intel committee, broke up the senate investigation into the Iraq intel debacle into two ‘phases’ and in so doing managed to push the report about President Bush’s role in the bamboozlement out past the 2004 election.
Apparently it worked so well the first time he’s going to try it again.
According the to The Hill, Chairman Roberts now wants to take the part of the investigation he split off to get it past the 2004 election and further split up the split off part in to two new pieces. That should help him get it all past the 2006 election.
I just need to keep going until after our primary on Tuesday – a week from today. Then I’ll collapse for a few days. Maybe take a short vacation, which is a rarity.
Many of us here have felt that it is a bit of a moot point debating whether or not Iraq is already in a state of civil war. I was interested to see just now that Jawad al-Maliki has said that if the militias are not disbanded, Iraq will fall into civil war, the term which Bush disavows. He also said that “force alone will not wipe out terrorism”, and that Iraq needs to deal with unemployment and investment. Must be hard work, trying to construct a unity government, disband the militias, and keep the US happy…
