I wonder if Booman is going to dress up for Vegas
or, dress down.
I used to know the answer to this, but I can’t seem to recall it right now.
I’m blaming it on my cold. I was crazy and in a sneezing fit when I hit post. 🙂
Maybe a little too much. 🙂
I’ve got some things to do around here, before I head out this afternoon. I’ll keep checking back in.
I hope that everyone has fun in Vegas. Give Joe Wilson a big kiss for me!
Here is another rose from my 1/2 work break yesterday. (And yes, JimF, that was a rose, if you are reading this.) I hope it’s not ethnic profiling to say that Mexican’s are incredible at growing roses. I live in a Hispanic neighborhood and it is a Hispanic neighborhood around my office building, and you can’t throw a brick without hitting a thriving rose bush.
A wonderful picture again MM. Did ya get enough sleep?
Thanks, FM. Not really enought sleep, but the only time in my life I was ever able to sleep the way normal people sleep was when I was pregnant. Don’t ask me why. Some kind of hormone thing. So I’m used to it!
How is your day shaping up? Feel a good nap coming on yet?
No, no naps today. 🙁
I’ve got a dental appointment later and I’m getting stuff done around the house before I go. Just taking a break right now.
Hope your day turns out pretty good.
Hola MM 🙂
that is my favorite color of rose. Hey, I have 10 bushes now. Not sure what to do with them. But neighbors are telling me how to prune em.
I found out that the older couple who lived here 0 married for 58 years… the gentleman was always outside working on the roses. He fell in the rose garden and never recovered. He died at the hospital.
So now it’s like the rose garaden is the entire neighborhood. It’s how they remember him.
Great rose story. A great hobby that absorbs your attention is one of the secrets to making a marriage work over the longterm…. IMHO!
for all of us. Beautiful flower.
Thanks, AndiF! Money isn’t everything. LOL! Well, off I go into the “dead zone” for another day…. see you all at Happy Hour!
Hello. In our new home. Still cleaning, packing out the apartment. Love it here. Very busy. But still “here”.
Have to get the kids registered for their new schools next season. Have been closing and opening accounts… all that crap.
Neighbors have been dropping by – some with baskets of goodies. Most are pretty “liberal” one lady even was happy to know I was with CodepInk. One other has the same quote I have in my sig line on her car. Met our first republicans… whatever. My neighbors are Ukrainian, Canadian, German, and people who escaped Utah 🙂
Danni is so HAPPY!! Tons of kids to play with. She’s loving it.
Wesley is doing very well and even told his teacher that he likes his new home and that he thinks his new school might be okay. I was called yesterday by the school to inform me that Wes will be receiving an award for PE… based on track. It’s not special ed or anything – it’s a mainstream award. It’s big as they’ve only awarded it 4 or 5 other times. Very proud.
I have to skidaddle. My mind is reeling with all the issues and shit from Bush. My pink friend interviewed a man about Haditha… just the top of the iceberg… so how “quaint” now we done got a bad guy in the news…
Have fun!!!!! Love Love Love!!!! (oh and I have the same email)
Hi Janet. I’m so happy to hear everything is going well.
Ya hoo for Danni and double ya hoo for Wesley!
Hello Family Man, your photos this morning made me laugh hard. 🙂 XOXO
okie I gotsta go. More hauling stuff over and I have to… ACK… get to that apt oven.
Enjoy, I know how I used to look forward to cleaning up a place I was leaving. 🙂
Well at least I don’t have to mow the lawn at the apts : )
Tell everyone I said “HEELLLOOOO”
Oh.. me and the family will be camping with SallyCat!!! Yay!!!
glad to hear you and the familia are getting settled. Congrats to Wes on the award. Sounds like all-in-all things are lifting themselves up in your world. Makes my heart smile!
BrotherFeldspar has been around all week and was asking for you, I think he may be lurking around here somewhere.
How’s it going Manny? Slacking off any for you at work?
I’m on a self-imposed strike. I have work coming out of my earholes but decided to take it in small bites instead of freaking out. I took a page out of the Slacker Bible 🙂
So happy to hear that. Everyone needs a good slack every now and then. 🙂
Hola! Manny!!! I was thinking of you the other day.. and now I can’t remember why. 🙂
Let BF know my email is the same. I’m going to be in and out today – I’ll check the cafe later on tonight.
Oh.. my new home – it will be perfect for Codepink work parties. 🙂 Going to a anti-militarism resistance “thang” this Saturday. might get “hairy” so can’t take kids… good grief.
Manny, can I put you in charge of giving all the regular irregulars a some huggles and snuggles for me today?
take the reins today, can I substitute huggles and snuggles for cold/free liquor? 😉
Soooo jealous about the camping with SallyCat! for the camping
where did the rest of my comment go?
for the camping AND the SallyCat
I hope you are enjoying every square inch of it. Don’t forget to take a few minutes to go out in the backyard and enjoy your trees. 🙂
I even didn’t mind that the sewage backed up due to roots Monday LOL.. got that fixed btw.
you got it fixed. Would’ve put a big dampler on doing cookouts, otherwise. 🙂
Damn, our Elvis has left the building again. Hiiiiii, DJ!!
I’m ready to go with the little bday party for my mom’s 90th today. She’s a truly liberal religious thinker, but even so her church friends are her best friends and she wants to have the party with a group of them who have been meeting every Thursday for years. So I’m taking over lunch ‘n’ cake ‘n’ stuff. It’ll be fun and she’ll be happy. I decided against 90 candles. 🙂 Might burn the church down.
See you guys later.
And you’ll get that special glow from hearing a few dozens times what a sweet, pretty, young thing you are.
lol! The problem with that–and an amazing thing about my mom–is that nobody else there will be nearly as old as she is. Nobody even in their 80’s. Her “contemporaries” are all gaga or dead. These women will all be in their 60s & 70s. Hot chicks.
Apparently I haven’t let yet.
That was supposed to be “left” yet.
And now not only have I left, but I’m back with icing on my lips. Party a success! Catered by Costco and me. Have you TRIED their white cake? Oh, man, is it good.
I’d go with a special candle that blows out easily.
I saw a video once of a old man blowing out candles and his dentures fell out and landed in the cake. Plonk! 😀
VEry cool, DJ! I’m glad things are going so well!
(((DJ)))
all packed?
Getting there. The laundry’s done, just need to re-make the bed.
I hate packing…I subscribe to the Marge Simpson school of packing: “I want it all in one bag, and I don’t want it to be heavy.”
just need to re-make the bed
No, you don’t need to. 😉
In my case, it is a need….a pathologic need, but a need nonetheless.
Glad to hear it worked out all right. I must have missed the cafe with the good news.
Thanks KmC!!! 🙂 Yup it closed May 30th. Was a real nut buster of stress monkey too. But were’ in and it’s all our 🙂
/tapping foot impatiently
Was beginning to wonder where you were & what you were up to! Very glad to hear the move to Portland has gone so well, the neighbors sound great, and I’d say your kids have taken to their new surrounds like ducks to water. (Get it? Oregon? Ducks? <sigh>) You see, the grass is bluer on the other side of the fence.
Am keen to hear about the camping trip, and what else is new.
Bare with me I’m using the computer ontop of a trunk, on flattened cardboard and at odd angles LOL
Yup, it’s bluer here at the Casa Azul house. Azul – my actual factual nickname 🙂
Just went and got the registration papers for both kids – the schools are HUGE and yet inviting. I love love this area. The neighbors have been so inviting and helpful. Have had a note on the door (Canadian, hockey peeps) telling the ages of their kids and phone number, a couple noted our car plates so brought a basket of Ghiradeli chocolate and Martinelli sparkling apple cider (good things from home) – the Ukranain family have invited DanDan over to bake brownies, they have over 70 parrots. A German lady called her friends to inform them her neighbor is with CodePink. 🙂
It’s been odd as I’ve been having to explain about autism a bit. Wesley is very excited to meet everyone’s cat and dog. He runs out to see them. A few times while I was in pjs but what a relief that he likes it here!!!!!!
((((((((BrotherFeldspar)))))))
A few hundred miles, and 180 degrees, from your old place, huh? A good environment makes all the difference, as you’re discovering.
Olivia & I have been carrying the NHL playoff torch for the past couple days, tho neither of us is too happy with the results so far. Personally I’m thankful those games won’t conflict with my World Cup watching: that is a choice I could not make.
we need to “talk” 🙂 to catch up. I miss you!!! So much to tell you and to ask you 🙂
I have to run out again… an oven calls my name. Then get the kids at the old school.
Portland is FANTASTIC!!! and the Pink Sisters here… are just so incredible. Now I just need another DC march 🙂
Got to go and grab something to eat. I’ll check back later.
My supervisor hereby confirms that I’m not, by any means, going to Vegas.
Rather, my top priority must be clearing our interior environment, so that he & his mother may race through said interior like crack-driven lunatics.
Andi, I wish to thank you for your offer in the last cafe’ to replenish my withering stash. Alas, the problem with the new locale isn’t only storage space, but the fact that I must carry my belongings up the mountainside just like an aging, rubber-legged mule (& a smoker, no less).
Unfortunately, as well, there’s never a lack of abandoned books with which to pack our shelves (which is how I’ve reached my current predicament).
Your intention, however, is highly appreciated.
To those on their way to Vegas or already arrived: don’t do anything I wouldn’t do — which gives you enough leeway to effectively balance the national debt.
& now, back to the mines. Cheers!
… he doesn’t get accidently packed in one of those boxes! 😉
>’.'<
Ha!!! Love that photo WW 🙂
Reminds me of Kitty. She’s very interested in boxes. Wrapping presents or packing is a bit of challenge with her around. I took photos one time of her “helping” get something packed to ship out. 🙂

w/ the ubiquitous 10% chance of afternoon T-storms. To add to the enjoyment they’ve blocked the street of and are digging it up to fix ‘another’ ruptured water line…lovely day all ’round.
IS IT HAPPY HOUR YET?
Later
Peace
And I hear ya on the happy hour … 🙂
This week is turning into a shit storm. Couldn’t even take a shower this AM…not a good way to start the day.
Think I’ll go drink some lunch…:{)
Not that your having a shitty week or that you couldn’t shower … the drinking lunch bit.
Hope it gets better or goes by quickly … 🙂
How come I hear – George Harrison’s “here’s come the sun” all of a sudden?? 🙂
Oh and Friday I’m having my hockey/autism friend over for dinner. I’m planning on streaming your show – can do that now with high speed internets 🙂
It’s a beautiful day here in Kansas City!
I Olivia, Where’s Stanley?
He gets a break every other day or so … 😉
Well, It’s nice to see you anyway! And probably a good thing for you to get a break from each other now and then.
I’ve now officially gone from too damn much to do for the trip to too f-ing damn much to do for the trip!
Actually thinking about tackling a bit of packing today, mainly the stuff I’m not worried about wrinkling (nightwear, undies and such). Got a bit more laundry to do this afternoon — shirts and such — and need to make my final decision which ones I’m taking.
Off to panic time…
Took this one last night, and I thought of DJ … 🙂
Congrats again on the house and on the mostly fab neighbours and Wes’ award and Danni’s happiness! Woo hoo … 🙂
So glad I’m taking a page from FM’s playbook & slacking a little here, so I didn’t miss your photo. So pretty, Miss O. Thank you.
OK, I’m outta here. The boss is lookin’.
Channeling Georgia O’Keefe, are we?
Ihave some red Ingrid Bergman roses in the garden, I’ll have to get those photographed. 🙂
oh and…
it’s Stanley Cup FINALS – WHOOOOOOOOOOOT
That’s sooo beautiful. So crisp, like fine pink paper.
Hi, kansas! How was your mom’s birthday party? Did you say she’s 90? Wow!
She will be 90 this Sunday. And the party was really nice, thanks. Easy and fun and she was pleased.
Wonderful photo!
It reminds me of one of those sets of Russian nested dolls or Amish nested boxes.

So glad I’m here in these nice, cool, refreshing mountains, supposedly working. Egad! Those bloggers must be crazy.
Howard Kunstler (The Geography of Nowhere and other works) had a chapter about Vegas in his recent book The City of the Mind. He subtitled the chapter “Utopia of Clowns,” which should give you an idea of his take and tone. You can read excerpts from that chapter on his website, but at the risk of copyright infringement I’ll post a single paragraph here:
Just to give you a taste!
Just a hit and run. I’m heading out to the dentist.
Be back later.
OO, Good Luck!
If you’ve got a moment, would you be so kind to take a look at my current diary? Hopefully it’s worth at least some discussion.
Then I’ll come back here, plop in the hot tub and we’ll talk about pie.
Hey, where is everybody today? You can’t all be in Vegas.
(phone rings)
Hello?
You don’t say?
You don’t say?
You don’t say?
You don’t say!!
(phone hangs up)
Who was it?????
He didn’t say!
The below is from Democracy Now. I thought it was a good thing to share… amist all this strange news with dead faces …
In 1968, he traveled to North Vietnam with Howard Zinn to bring home three U.S. prisoners of war.
Later that year he made national headlines when he and eight others burned draft files in Catonsville Maryland.
In 1970 he spent four months living underground as a fugitive from the FBI.
In the early 1980s he helped launch the international anti-nuclear Plowshares movement when he and seven others poured blood and hammered on warheads at a GE nuclear missile plant in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
I am talking, of course, of Father Daniel Berrigan. Jesuit priest. Poet. Pacifist. Educator. Social activist. Playwright. Civil rights activist. And lifelong resister to what he calls “American military imperialism.”
Along with his late brother, Phil, Dan Berrigan played an instrumental role in inspiring the anti-war and anti-draft movement during the late 1960s as well as the anti-nuclear movement.
Georgetown University theology professor Chester Gillis has said of Father Berrigan: “If you were to identify Catholic prophets in the 20th century, he’d be right there with Dorothy Day or Thomas Merton.”
This weekend, hundreds of people are gathering in New York to celebrate his 85th birthday.
well, i am bloody well annoyed. See, I had it all planned out. Go get a haircut, and on the way back stop off at my ex-wife’s apartment and grab a suitcase and feed the cats. Except, when I got to her door, I realized that i had made a grave error. You see, the lobby light in my apartment burned out. And I was getting really annoyed at the fact that I had five identical looking keys that could all potentially open my apartment door. So I removed all the dummies, including the one that opens my ex-wife’s outside door. So, i had to walk all the way home to get the key, and now it is raining out.
Pfft.
Sometimes I do stuff that’s just so dumb, I gotta laugh.
ROTFLMAO!!!! That is why I have at least 10 keys on my keychain that I have no idea what they unlock. LOL
I’m all packed, just waiting for my cab.
Just wanted to say hi from The Texas State Democratic Convention. We got here earlier and there was 1 meeting of the SDEC today that was booked in a room so small that over half the people would have had to stand for the entire thing and I decided to skip it and get some sleep instead. LOL I will be attending at least two parties this evening if not more, LOL
I am surprised that the Hotel I am staying in has a 13th floor and I am on it. LOL I have never been in a building with a 13th floor before in my life. I am not worried about it as 13 has always been a lucky # for me.
I will admit it feels really weird to be anywhere with out the Diva Dogs. I miss My Babies!!!!
It seems so quiet in here. Anybody here?
who don’t need to pack.
Yeah, more’s the pity, huh?
I was all excited about Yearly Kos when it was first proposed, and I’m still excited that it’s happening. In my misspent youth I would drop pretty much everything to go to a science fiction convention two states away. (Met my wife at one, even.) But early on I figured out that I wasn’t going to be able to go whether it was held in Chicago or Las Vegas, or anywhere but within about ten miles of Seattle for that matter.
Still, it’s a great thing and I hope it accomplishes some good.
I don’t care about Kos, I don’t like crowds, I hate Las Vegas.
But I’ll sympathize with people who wanted to and couldn’t.
Someday, somewhere, though, I would like to meet some of these invisible people I keep corresponding with.
Thanks but I don’t travel well. If it’s not within spitting distance of Seattle I’m not likely to go.
Wish I could, though.
packing will occur later. I’m heading out to something I have to do. Since you might not be around when I get home, I’ll say goodbye now!
I hope you are having a fantastic day, my nice friend. 🙂
You have friends who aren’t nice?
aware, I’m just checking to see whether or not a good night’s sleep was able to restore the universe to its proper balance.
Gosh it seems like the fun didn’t really get going until I went to bed!
the reply I wrote to your katiebird stretcher icon last night? That thread I linked is one of my all-time favorite FBCs, you were hilarious.
if you take the day off tomorrow and come to vegas I promise to be mean to you 🙂
a hard bargain. 🙂
You have no idea how badly I want to go, but the chances are slim to nill that I’ll be able to make an appearance. Have a great time and try to keep the calumnious slanders to a minimum.
guess I’ll have to continue being nice to you. I’ll be back later while I’m packing 🙂
I just got back. Give me a minute and I’ll get a happy hour going.
Froggy Bottom Happy Hour Here
