That 4 looks good on you
and our dragging me out the door as I valiantly try to reach the keyboa ….
See you later then!!
Beautiful image up above, Andi — an absolute picture of what it is I love about the woods: vitality, mystery, color & not a slot machine in sight. Excellent shot!
Aren’t you glad you’re not in the desert today?
Just a hit and run. I’ve actually gotten the lawn picked up and swept. It’s bad enought with brances and pine cones, but I’ve got a tree in the front yard that sheds. I’ve got a tree shedding outside and George shedding inside. There’s no end to it during the summer.
I finding keeping these ear buds on my mp3 player in and yard work are becoming to much of a hazzel. I might switch over to the little head phones I have.
Hope everyone is doing good. I’ll check back later.
G’mornin’ from ykos! Parted with BooMan, Cabingirl and Maryb last night! Gov Dean is speaking now!
Good to see you, boran2! Sounds like a good time.
Here’s a picture from last night:
Janet Strange, BooMan, SanDiegoDem, Shermanesqe, and boran2.
How is everybody? I’m feeling much better now that I’ve had more than 2 hours sleep…
Hi CG. Looks like ya’ll are having a great time. You’re in Vegas. Who needs sleep?
I do, FM!
But then again, I’m not in Vegas. I’m in the Catskills, where the temperature struggles toward 50 degrees & it feels just like September.
Maybe sweating profusely stands in for sleep. Ever notice that it’s virtually impossible to do both at once?
π
When our AC went out I definitely knew the feeling.
I’ve got a question for you. I’m having cat problems. A new younger cat has been coming around and getting into fights with Cat and Tom. They’re both up there in age and I’m getting tired out running outside to break up fights. Any suggestions.
Does the younger cat appear to be a stray? Is there a collar? Is it an intact male (not fixed)?
Cats are largely about territory; they take it very seriously — most especially intact male tomcats. This kitty is obviously looking to stake his claim.
That’s what I figured about territory. Tom is intact and he stays outside all the time, I know he can still give a good fight, but he’s getting old and I worry about him.
The new cat has been coming out at night and it’s around the corner by the time I get out of the door. If it would hang around it might be different. That’s what Tom did and now he’s part of the family.
Cat and Tom got into some pretty good fights to begin with and now they’ve settled it all, so I don’t know, I’ll just have to see how it goes.
Aha. Tom’s intact? That’s why there are intense fights, to be sure. All territory is mating territory. These territories can literally extend for mies & if they overlap, you have fights, since the territory is ‘disputed’, as in wartime.
Given a conflict, cats know instinctively when they can’t fight, so they back down. They’re not suicidal or murderous.
Unfortunately, if the cats can’t be seperated they’ll have to work it out cat-style. It’s very upsetting to see, but this is how they do it.
If Tom was fixed, the whole scenario would probably very different. I’m guessing Cat is fixed.
Yep you’re right on Cat. Since Tom stays outside though I don’t want some other cat chasing him off. He’ll be gone sometimes for a day or two, but he always end up back here. If it starts to get bad, Tom might end up an inside cat. But then I’ve got him and George to deal with. George and Cat have gotten to the point they sleep together, with Tom I would want it to just get to the point of him not scratching George’s eye out.
Y’ know, you might seriously consider having Tom fixed. That way he’d be
a) less likely to fight (with either cats or George)
b) less likely to run off
& the obvious c) less likely to father kittens, which I’m sure is what he’s busily doing on his long outings. He’s also likely to get hurt on these outings, while he’s far from home.
BTW, you really don’t want to have to keep Tom inside if he’s not fixed! He’ll drive you insane & spray all around. PU!
BTW, it’s useless trying to break up cat fights; the cats have to work out their dominance/territory thing & they will do so regardless of interference. At most, you can try to keep your cats indoors, or let them all duke it out. They won’t kill each other; someone will back down. Cats know how to negotiate.
Nice T-shirt there, Booman. π
Great photo, CG — thanks for checkin’ in! You folks look happy — though poor BooMan looks slightly off-kilter. Hope everyone’s having a wonderful time & keeping up their fluid intake — preferably non-alcoholic, for the most part. Booze can contribute to heat-stroke. Call me a party-pooper if you want, but I value my pond-mates’ vitals.
π
Well, not only that, drinking at a convention like this seems like it could lead to some pretty bad results.
“It ish *hic* the sensh of thish convenshun that we all pile into Weshley Clark’sh room and ashk him if he hash any Grey Pou . . . any Grey Pou . . . any mushtard. *hic*”
No doubt! Could lead to some rather embarrassing incidents — as well as some nasty press concerning demented, destructive, sloppy & downright Un-American behavior, in a city so reperesentative of our nation’s essential character.
I guess it’s a good thing I’m not there. π
Seconded! I’m perfectly happy being demented, sloppy & Un-American right here at home — & the New York Times doesn’t care.
Yep. And what happens in Las Vegas, stays on Google.
That’s right!
What a great group of people!!
And.. Boran2 is a HOTTIE!!! Yowzers!!! Mover over George Clooney!
Did Booman get a couple of hairs cut?
Hey you! How’s your weekend going?
I’m sitting here with the oh-so-hot boran2 now…
painting a picture of your thoughts for him?
π
getting vehicles in good working order…that sort of thing. Catching what you guys are catching here and there. It’s pretty damned exciting! In a way I really can’t believe you have all congregated there and brought all that energy with you all. Cedwyn is with you guys too huh? It’s kind of dreamy from a “someone please stop the Iraq War” perspective. I hope you have a really awesome time! Squeezing a little sin in here and there! Speaking of squeeze, could give Wes a little bun squeeze for me? He’s such a sexy little brute!
Today is supposed to be Clean Up The Deck Day. My son is coming over about 1 to help us with the heavy lifting. Before he comes over I plan to enlist my daughter’s help in going over to the local big box toystore and get some implements of destruction to clean up the deck with — specifically, we need something to wash down the deck and get rid of the moss that’s thinking about taking hold on the deck and the steps.
Then, I need to dig out a burner element. I went to clean the one I have last week and it came off in my hands. I guess the natural gas must have corroded the feeder pipes or something. Anyway that, a new grill brush, then off to the store to pick up something to cook on the grill when we’re done.
And finally, sometime tonight we should be relaxing on a nice clean deck with some take-out Thai food after Omir succeeds in making the steaks both charred black on the outside and underdone on the inside. Isn’t summer great?
Omir weekends are for relaxing. You sound so busy your weekend will be gone before you know it.
This is relaxing. Once my wife quits bugging me about getting the deck clean I can relax. Besides, this way I get to spend time with my family, including my son’s daughter who is as cute as a bushel basket full of buttons, and at the end of it all we get to play with fire. What could be better?
I like the end results, it’s just getting there with the deck. π
Well, it needs it, it was kind of neglected over the winter. My son is going to help with the heavy lifting of a couple of big items that got set out there during the winter, hopefully everyone else will pitch in with the rest of it and we should be done in no time.
I would like to get some flowers too. We have a few planters that definitely need cheering up.
I know what you mean. Some time this summer I’ll go out and reclean the concrete on the patio. My youngest brother has a power cleaner and I’ll get him to bring that.
The next big thing I have to do is clean the vinyl siding on the house. That’s not to bad except when I have to climb up on the roof to get that.
Well hate to run, but I got to finish the mowing before it gets really hot.
See ya’ll later.
Good Morning or Afternoon (depending on your time zone)
I can’t remember who here recommended the movie “Water,” but I saw it last night and found it amazing. Beautiful acted, written and photographed. A clear indictment of fundamentalist hatred of women and the of chains of tradition. All presented in a poingnant, understated way that allowed one to enter the world of Indian widows (one who was seven years old) and also to get a glimpse of the culture India under the influence of Ghandi as it was breaking away from British control . Truly haunting.
Getting off to a slow start here on the lower Left Coast! Really lovely photo, AndiF! I love the blue green ambient light!
& a gracious brunch-time to you too, mythmother! Good to see you’re having a nice, laid back Saturday in a warmer place than the Catskills. Feels like September here today.
Hope your weekend will continue that way, if you want it to.
I truly love Andi’s photo too. Love, love, love the woods, any time.
I’m glad things have cooled off for you. The Catskills aren’t much fun in the sweltering humid heat!
It’s nice and cool here today, too.
I just had a lovely croissant-wich and am wondering what to do with all my free time!
How is the move coming along?
Forgive my delayed reply, dear — was just reading Nagourney’s dopey convention article. Shouldn’t have bothered.
The move’s progressing slowly but surely; thanks for asking. I’m currently waiting for a little dry weather so that I can get out & do something. I’ve made the landlord here aware that I may not be able to make vacancy deadline. Can’t do the impossible, after all.
Because of all the rain, the mountains are lovely right now — blossoming & blooming terrifically. It’s a beautiful place to be, regardless.
Hope you can find something perfectly wonderful to do with your free time today!
I’m playing around with my silly typing tutor program. I decided that one reason writing is such a frustrating experience for me is that I have gotten into a lot of sloppy habits as a typist. And I have.
Anyway, it’s fun since you can upload practice text and I am uploading Pride and Prejudice one chapter at a time. I love that book so much and have experienced it in every other way, so now I can have the experience of typing it!
I hope you will soon get the perfect weather for your move. It is just not possible to move when it’s wet outside. I hope your landlord will be a little understanding, even if he is a jerk who cuts down trees!
I read Booman’s comment about Nagourney…. I hope that someday soon there will be an end to these silly partisan attacks, but I guess it won’t happen as long as Carl Rove is calling the shots…..
Morning all (well at least the last dregs of morning here on the west coast).
I can totally sympathize about the typing. I never learned how to type and I am currently a legal secretary. I don’t quite hunt and peck, but I don’t touch type either. When I had a more demanding job, I was getting concerned about carpal tunnel, so I bought a typing program. Man, that was frustrating. In fact, it was so frustrating that I gave up on it completely! I hope you have better luck.
having Murtha as House Majority Leader maybe? God I would be so delighted. He could be huge in ENDING this Iraq insanity!
I love the idea and I love you!
Yeah, me too! I read about that yesterday and couldn’t think of a better choice.
Again, I was up too late and woke too late to catch the KoolKidz popping in here earlier… but great to see that maybe MM, DJ and WW are still around! Big heyas to everyone/anyone hanging out here.
No garden work today… only about 57 degrees outside, due to that cold front that finally came through late late last night and gave us a little rain, though it’s possible at any time today, according to the forecast. I hope we get more, since I can’t get out to do anything anyway.
I missed the Kool Kids too since I slept late to make up for another night of tossing and turning.
57 degrees! The weather just can’t seem to make up it’s mind, can it? Sorry you have to miss out on your “gardening fix.”
But I’m glad it’s cool here! We can really use the break. I’m sure there will be another heat wave coming down the pike soon.
What are you going to do with all of that pent up gardening energy?
I’m actually pretty beat from an exhausting week, so I’m going to slack a bit today, do some cleaning inside and figure out what I can get accomplished tomorrow. Which means more weed and seed stuff… have one more bed of zinnias to get planted and some odds and ends plants that need to get in, so that will probably be about it.
Watched The Constant Gardener last night and really liked it. Loved the visual style of the film … of course it wasn’t an American director, it was too arty and European feeling! Thus my positive reaction and review, hehe.
just has to say “no more”
Fleet Week in Portland… and the fuckers have their fingers on the triggers of their guns. So we’re going in to protest the militarization of this country. Fuck Bush and Fuck his hired killers and his fear tactics.
2:00PM, Saturday, June 10th
Salmon Street Fountain – Waterfront Park
We’ll be gathering along with the War Resisters League Draft Counseling Project, PPRC, The No War Drum Corp. and other counter-recruiting organizers to challenge the militarization of the Rose Festival
and confront the lies of the military recruiters.
—
My husband is scared shitless about this one. The fuckers have been standing on the docks with their bad ass guns. Fleet Week used to be fun. Now there are security “check points”. Guns armed and aimed at CIVILIANS.
I’m going to go do my part.
Peace. Love.
I don’t see how anyone could stop you, DJ — but be careful, without fear.
Blessings.
simple questions!
I finally got a photo of this herd of ponies next door to the grocery store:
And here’s the one who came up to visit with me:
Can I, huh, can I?
!!
That’s exactly what I think every time we drive by!!
At least this time I got to pet one and take his picture.
We used to go to a little amusement park called Little America when I was a kid and I would go straight to the pony rides and stay there the whole time — it didn’t matter to me if I got to ride them or not; I was happy just watching them. By the time I was 6, I had talked my mom into letting me go ride at a livery stable.
what’s the name of that website with company signs and slogans that don’t translate well in other cultures? I need it for a EuroTrib comment I’m plotting to drop in Alex’s “Fuck You” diary π
Hope I’m not too late to help ya Manny… was off doing other stuff for a while. If it’s the one with the mangled Japanese stuff, go here
Think that’s the one you’re thinking of?
thanks, now to hunt for the perfect specimen. Gotta kill time b4 I have to go out into the fires of hell.
Glad to help out, amigo. You’ll have plenty of odd stuff to choose from there… I particularly like the “don’t fart downwind from people” sign, hehe.
How’s everyone in the cafe doing so far? I did get the lawn mowed today. Maybe that’ll do for another month.
I’m going to be leaving between 5:00 and 5:30. Are you going to be around or should I open a cafe before I go?
I’ll be around. You have a good time.
I should be in and out for a few hours so I’ll keep an eye on things too in case you decide to commit a napping.
Thanks Manny. I just never know when a nap is going to hit me. Sorry to hear about your vehicle trouble.
we suspect it’s the original alternator and the truck is hitting 10 years old in a few months with over 165,000 miles and several cross-state/country trips. The timing is never good for this sort of thing so just gonna roll with the punches.
Been there many times. My last car had 350,000 miles on it before I got rid of it. I had that one for 9 years and the one before that for 13 years.
I only broke down on the interstate far away from home one time and that convinced me I never wanted that to happen again.
My only problem is I don’t know enough about car engines to do anything. π
I’ll see you later. Have a good evening.
Have fun and be safe — it’s wet out!
Hi Indy. How’re you feeling today?
I’m still bottomed out, Family Man, so I’m starting to think I need to see a local endocrinologist sooner rather than later. I hope you’re well — I always worry that you’re not getting enough rest. π
Sooner! You take care of yourself.
I think I get enough rest for all the froggies around. It’s a heavy burden, but…. π
Turns out it was a battery casualty due to the desert heat instead of the alternator, THANK KRISHNA!
I’ll see you all around later.
Good news Manny. Take care out in that heat and see ya later.
See ya!
Hi Olivia. How’s your day gone?
Really good … just got back from a photo-course and some errands. Now getting set for Stanley … π
I took a pic of the full ninebark bush (from my b) and I’m going to upload it now.
How are things w/ you. I see you got the lawn done … Any more cat fights?
I was wondering about you photo-course. Hope it went well. I saw about the Stanley tonight and looked it up, but our cable system isn’t carrying it. π
How can I every become Canadian if I can’t watch hockey?
No cat fights, but the other one only comes around at night. I just fed Tom outside and I see he’s limping a little, so I’ll have to check him out a little closer.
I’ll keep looking to the b for the picture.
… and I was on top of most of the info d/t Jim’s and dada’s excellent explanations. I’ll have to do part2 now. And they even have a PS one … π
That’s too bad about the hockey … You are really missing out. You’ll just have to come live up here FM. π
the first photo/art show happening soon.
I just rechecked and NHL does come on. I’ll have to watch.
What sort of quorum do we need to live-blog a sporting event on a political site?
Hi BF! How are you doing?
3 huh? I think we can muster that, esp. if DJ jumps in.
How was the photo class? Did it have a emphasis on film or digital?
.. it was specifically for the D70s … and it was hands on, so we all had our cameras and we played. It was very introductory though. The instructor didn’t even go into the S, A, or M settings — just the P. I was the only one coming from a non-film background, so a lot of the questions were on the differences. Anyways, good stuff. I’m just going to keep plugging along.
Do you need one? If it’s a point of interest, it would seem like the number of people participating would dictate the validity of the live-blog.
Now as far as I know. None. π
How’s it going BF?
5 World Cup matches watched, 59 to go.
For some reason I didn’t think you would want to live-blog NASCAR. π
But I’ll expect you to be there … π
So you’re going to watch? Excellent! It’s not on ’til 8pm here.
Here’s the full bush — it was raining when I took this an hour ago, so it’s kind of dark:
The ninebark bush is on the left. You can see the white ‘balls’ of flowers … on my b, I took a close up of just one of those balls.
Oh, and to the right — the purple/pink — is what else? A rose bush … π And columbine between them.
Yes I see now. It put it into perspective.
Of course, once you have your art in a gallery I’ll be there. π
… a bird popped on my head! It was disgusting … LOL.
Please tell us you were wearing a hat.
I immediately ran inside and showered though … π
has to suffer. Never heard of bird poop being in the formula, but if it works for you. π
I’m going to open up a new cafe.
Gimme a minute.
Froggy Bottom Happy Hour Here
