I’m so tired. Somebody please pick me up and throw me into bed.
One thing I did today was go to the funeral of a high school friend of mine who was a retired sheriff’s deputy. I’d never been to a cop’s funeral before and it was interesting. I don’t mean to be morbid, but I found the final part of the ceremony really dramatic and haunting. After the speeches, the flag ceremony, the playing of taps. . .suddenly there came a loud crackling sound out of the loud speaker. We heard the voice of a sheriff’s dispatcher. He gave the name of the deceased, and basic facts of his life and death, and then he said something like, “This is the last transmission. The system is now clear. Over and out.” There was another loud crackle, and then silence. That transmission went to the sanctuary and to all the cars on the streets.
He was a great guy–hilarious and he had more intellectual firepower than practically anybody I’ve ever known, plus he was the adoptive father of two multiply-handicapped kids, and a mainstay of the local deaf school where he had taught a long time ago.
You don’t have to offer commiseration, honest. We weren’t close. I just liked and admired him and I wanted to share that spooky moment from the funeral. I’d never heard of that particular funeral custom before today.
besides the fact that I hate them is that I can never stop my brain from going to the wrong places — right now I’m thinking too bad they didn’t say ‘car 54 where are you?’
Terry Pratchett’s book Going Postal has a tradition something like this. People who have died on the Clacks towers (kind of like telegraph) have their names sent around among the towers during the dead time.
Several times, CodePink delegates go to Iraq… I found this photo of this little girl. I saw the date, 7/04, and I can’t help but wonder if she’s still alive.
No matter where or what part of the world, little girls like to dress up in pink.
Well, I was afraid it was inexplicable and that I’d have to go to a doctor. . . .
But when I went back across to my building, we noticed that there was a strange square, raised about 4 inches with an extremely defined ridge at each of the corners. I think I tripped on the ridge.
Luckily (because of Eat4Today Live!) it didn’t tear my hose. Which is especially strange because my knee is scraped and swollen.
I’m OK, though and really relieved that I tripped on something.
…katie, kansas, keres, AndiF, DJ, FM, and anyone else my sieve brain has already forgotten. Made it through another crackly day health-wise, lived to tell the tale, and am just about down for the countdown!
Well, you’ll have to make up for it by having a fun night! 😉
Hmmm … well that was a first there d … that little nappy-poo thing. I had a stressful and long day w/ the FCH: I’m going over my finds w/ the project manager … get my drift?
Oh, and IMS (as d says) … 😉 … IVG sometimes gets a nap in before he joins us.
I didn’t realize that was the view from your domicile. Not sure why, ’cause that makes sense. Wow. It’s even more amazing now that I know that’s what you’re seeing.
as the farmstead is actually on the western shore of glacial Lake Agazziz. I’d give you links for that but they’re all on the city computer.
Imagine that whole area you see covered in a huge lake that runs north all the way to Hudson Bay. Very trippy when one looks back in time geologically.
I have a rock I found years ago with crinoid fossils in it from 200 million years ago, from when this whole area was a sea.
now I’m thinking that 200 million should have been 400 million, dang dialup, or I’d go check, but 200 doesn’t look right, and now I’m not remembering the name of geo period.
Photo taken a few weeks back,
but it looked pretty much like this before sundown.
So far we only got a wet-the-pavement amount. Rain is needed for crops and gardens, good thing that the nights have been cool and the days’ highs around 75.
I spent a few hours assisting other people with their interests, which for reasons that shall remain unexplained left me exhausted.
So I have to admit I napped from 2-3PM in an effort at rehab.
Due to my being engaged in the above endeavor my brother hauled off the scaffold units I’d been using to their storage area. So that was a good thing that I got out of that little chore.
As far as my own projects I spent a 1/2 hr picking up some debris. And everything else will have to wait till tomorrow.
The highlight of the day was spotting an Eastern Bluebird. According to my book I hadn’t seen one since June 1, 1999.
You mind reader, Olivia! Mine was pure unadulterated crappy. Craptastic, as it were. Won’t even begin to go into details, but suffice to say I wonder how much longer I can tolerate my job. Oh well … not much fire in me tonight, so I’ll focus on the cool instead. Delphinium “Dark Blue with White Bee” detail taken earlier tonight.
I’m doing a bit of bloggering but don’t intend to manuscript it tonight. Just the basics.
Thx for the kind thoughts, Olivia. At least we did get some significant weeding done tonight, and I got some good pics. And we discovered yet another mutant Calendula not far from the other one last night! Had a nice conversation with our neighbor behind us (the ex-artificial flower lady we converted) and she told me that she’s been coming by and taking tons of pictures of the flowers with her new camera. She’s hooked! Our good gardening deed is at least done where she’s concerned.
Oh yeah, those Delphs are really performing, despite the still bone dry weather… all the rain is either going north or south of us. Getting critical here soon if it doesn’t break this pattern.
Olivia, I don`t know how young you are nor how long you`ve been where you now reside. I`m wondering if you remember an incident in the
Gulf of Saint Lawrence in 1975 [end of Feb. -beging of March] involving a ship named “The ANSWER”. It was in the papers up there, from the TORONTO GAZETTE or Daily Star to the SUMMERSIDE JOURNAL, & every paper in between. It was sort of an embarressment for the, then government in OTTAWA.
For your trouble searching your memory banks, here`s a little drink for you. Sip it slowly so as not to make anemone. http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/804/vintageapperitif8pj.jpg
hmmm let’s see now, assuming a somewhat truthful answer, 2006 minus 1973 equals…. censored, censored, does not compute, error… windows will have to close now…
Yes, Yes Yes,
Where did you find that. I`ll get back to you shortly. I`m going to scan a few items on that & I guarantee you`ll be surprised. Dada wait for what`s coming. I`ll just be, maybe 10 mins.
I can`t believe you found that.
Thank you.
Don`t look at the image yet.
Dada, I sent you some clues in my posts the last three days. ‘I`m not Jerry Garcia”, “I`m self taught” & “I have all my fingers”. Since nobody caught on, I figured it would be ok.
Look at the encircled person & fastforward to now. Dada, do you get it now? http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/6826/theanswer7lg.jpg
I kept laughing when I`d put in a clue & it seemed to go over your head. I have hundreds of pages of newsprint on this incident & some pics I took I would sell the rolls of film without knowing what was on them. I`m putting together a book on this but i don`t know how to do searches very well. I can not believe Olivia found these.
Did you consult this Oracle to put the clues together. http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2816/travelingoracle8466ad.jpg
So in honor of the inestimable Izzy and the other FBL denizens (and a big shout out to Knucklehead, who I hope likes this), here’s another current bloomer (taken last night).
YA, that`s the flower. You took a much better picture this time. Not many people seem to have these. I know we started with one & now there`s dozens some years.
just a drive-by hello tonight. Worked way too late today and have another long one on the horizon for tomorrow. Anyone want to come give me a hand at the office for the next week? Anyone? Bueller?
help is supposed to arrive on Wednesday in the form of a new hire, but I’ll be responsible for training her so it’ll be a while before things slow down. At this point I’ll take anyone who can answer phones and file without having to be shown how to alphabetize or speak professionally. Friday…I’ll have to keep that in mind while prodding my boss for some flex time.
You definitely do need to do some squeaky wheeling about that flex time Manny. After all you’ve been holding up (or down?) for so long now, you more than deserve it!
Hey there Manny … nice to be able to at least wave at ya while you zoom by. Thx for stopping by the b today. I’m very flattered, to say the least. Just popped up a new post there, so anytime you’re interested, drop by again.
flattered? no reason for that amigo, I’m always looking to read about different things and since I’m gardening-deficient in knowledge and instinct, that post caught my attention. I’m off to bed now, I’ll see you all around later. Have a great night!
It’s still light outside! Oh, well, I assume it’s pretty dark where most of you are, so the neon seemed right.
Mid-day here (as in, Lunch time). Hi all.
Wait, is it even the longest day on your side of the world?
http://www.izzyspizza.com/ we have one nearby and I think of you every time we drive by it. 🙂
lol — too bad there’s not one near me. I could stock up and Izzy napkins.
No, it’s the shortest day. As in Winter Soltice.
That’s what I suspected, but I didn’t want to seem stupid by saying so.
Go with your gut next time. 😉
You have no idea what dangerous advice that is for me! I’ve spent most of my life training myself not to.
It’s very dark and past my bedtime.
Night all.
Nighty-night. Don’t forget to light your Soltice candle.
I’m going to sleep now…just so I can chat with Family Man and AndiF in the wee hours of the morning.
Fine. Be that way.
I get the early birds. Don’t be greedy.
I’m not being greedy! Just trying to be a good hostess and mix it up a bit. (how’s that for re-framing, psi?)
for his shoes.
Is there something I should know?
that a shoe maven is always on the hunt for new sources.
Well this early bird is heading off to the nest.
Good night.
Sweet dreams!

Well, I am sorry for you loss anyway. I’ve never heard of that custom either. Did they have a bagpiper?
They had THREE bagpeeps!
I hope it was outdoors.
the fact he loved and worked with challenged kidlets says a stackload for him. Again, sorry for the loss of a great, fun guy.
He took on stuff I can’t even imagine myself doing. Huge heart! Like a certain DJ I know. 🙂
besides the fact that I hate them is that I can never stop my brain from going to the wrong places — right now I’m thinking too bad they didn’t say ‘car 54 where are you?’
I love your evil brain 🙂
It’s always nice to have one’s talents (no matter how inappropriate) appreciated.
He would have laughed the hardest of anybody.

Interesting! Thanks, Emma.

Damn this Regime and all their lies.
(do I have to get up?)
Morning…evening… uh…
how about a hug instead of a greeting?
((((((((Katie)))))))))))))
Hi {{Janet}}
(yawn) OK, I’m back up….
It’s close to bedtime isn’t it?
Hiya katieb!
The last thing I knew, I streched out on the couch to watch TV. Now it’s almost 3 hours later.
My bed looked so comfy so I laid down for a bit and woke up a couple hours later … 🙂
I fell down (splat) on a sidewalk today, like a belly-flop. And now I feel stiff and miserable.
How did it happen?
Well, I was afraid it was inexplicable and that I’d have to go to a doctor. . . .
But when I went back across to my building, we noticed that there was a strange square, raised about 4 inches with an extremely defined ridge at each of the corners. I think I tripped on the ridge.

I’m OK, though and really relieved that I tripped on something.
Hi-light them in some way. That’s really dangerous. You better keep an eye on that knee … {{{{kb}}}}
Good idea!! I’ll call the city tomorrow. Really. Thanks!!
Mister says the knee looks fine. So, I guess I’m OK.
I think it shakes you up to have something like that happen too …
…katie, kansas, keres, AndiF, DJ, FM, and anyone else my sieve brain has already forgotten. Made it through another crackly day health-wise, lived to tell the tale, and am just about down for the countdown!
Goodnight mythmother.
Sweet dreams, mythmother, and katie, and everybody else. I’m off to the Land o’ Nod.
Goodnight, kansas. Sweet dreams.
Draggin’ in from the foothills. . .

How goes it w/ you?
I shoulda stayed in bed…or at least taken a nap like you and Kb
You know, btw, that’s cheatin”…:{)
What do you mean cheating?
resting up and then keeping the rest us up late…yeah, yeah, FM said…:{P
Well, you’ll have to make up for it by having a fun night! 😉

blasphemy I say, blasphemy!!
My brain shut down once I got home … it was automatic. I had no control over it. Too much thinking today … I could actually smelling smoke …. 😛
You see right there: evidence that I haven’t fully recovered my brain function … LOL 🙂

Hey, dada, photo is off old 2nd floor deck, note branch extending into view from left, that’s a branch of the south one of two old maple trees.
… laughs that is.
I didn’t realize that was the view from your domicile. Not sure why, ’cause that makes sense. Wow. It’s even more amazing now that I know that’s what you’re seeing.
How’s life in the slow lane?
Nice pic…appears you’re on a high spot, is that from where the house is?
as the farmstead is actually on the western shore of glacial Lake Agazziz. I’d give you links for that but they’re all on the city computer.

Dada those Blues were for you.
the aperitif down-thread is pretty tasty too…here’s a couple bits I found on the web today that y’all might find amusing;
Utah Phillips:
Mooseturd Pie 1.3 M mp3
Talking NPR Blues 1M mp3…apropos to BushCo’s latest nominee to the Board of the Corp. for Public Broadcasting. Warren Bell, of NRO…lovely.
Enjoy
Here`s a little blues for you seeing as you would not make a commitment on your favorite music. I concur. It`s like chosing a favorite dog when you have four,http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/8130/crowdedbluesdscn55947nr.jpg or a flower when you have thousands.

ACK! You had a nap too NDD … LOL. You can’t be complaining about me … 🙂
So it sounds like none of us had a good day … what’s up w/ that!

Curmudgeon’s Corner in here…How was your day Head?…we’re battin’ 1000 so far.
I was hoping that at least one of us had a good day. Tho I kinda suspected it when you were absent all day.
But! The day is over and the night is here and you’ve spent some time in your garden and look at these delicious delphs!
Oh and just btw … AC is on JS right now … whoa! 🙂
Thx for the kind thoughts, Olivia. At least we did get some significant weeding done tonight, and I got some good pics. I’m not getting it. But I’m happy that info is helpful. Let me know if I can help you out w/ searching — not that I did anything special tho.
And I’ve got it now. I wasn’t sure how one of your ‘clues’ fit in … and I still might not, but I think I’ve got it overall. 😉
It started, IMS, when someone in the thread asked him if the B&W portrait he posted was Gerry Garcia…or some such…
The Answer is The Teacher is ‘Head”.
Clever.

Yep … 🙂 I love the hair!
So in honor of the inestimable Izzy and the other FBL denizens (and a big shout out to Knucklehead, who I hope likes this), here’s another current bloomer (taken last night).

I’m going too. Good night IVG. See you all around sometime soon.
I’m not far behind ya, Olivia! Hope your day in cubihell is better than mine’s going to be. See ya soon as well.
Here’s some peaceful blue for you … and then I’m outta here too!

Good night & I hope you got my response on the link.
G’night, dada-O … sleep well and be blessed by the spirit of your choice.
