I guess that’s what the mud-wrestling was all about, eh? Couldn’t make myself go thru the whole thread(s) so I musta missed the official announcement…lost interest once I back tracked thru the ‘underwear’ section…:{)
no deck building, but accomplished some other errands around town and spent a few hours with a couple of very good friends at the Hotel Donaldson. Ahh… let’s just say the “scenery” this evening was particularly interesting…
Well, Art of Art’s Park fame and KC are a couple of the greatest story tellers I know, so unless someone is up on the tables dancing and removing clothing those guys are about as exciting as it gets.
Other than that we were seated in a strategic location, a booth next to a superb mural (sp looks funny) and where nearly everyone in the bar passes by soooner of later either entering the bar, or, on the way to the WCs or the restaurant. Hence, the visual “entertainment” factor.
only if dada would agree to take turns in the ring, (or the puddle)… due to my current sexual proclivity I wouldn’t want to be confused as to just who I had hold of in the t’ick of it… so to speak.
fledglings when we were kids. That was interesting.
They flew away in the fall, but returned the next spring for a couple of days to say hi, then went into the wild for good. The used to like popcorn. I’ll have to comb the B&W photo albums some day, see what I can find of those days.
sheet mahn, “Margin Call” don’t scare me like that. Last time I had one of those was when the Ruskies invaded Afghanistan then the wheat market collapsed when Carter called an embargo, dat vus a scary week!
it usually, but not always, involved the ‘Blues’ and was in what could reliably be categorized as ‘ghettos’…some in Chicago, E. St. LOUIS, DC, VARIOUS PLACES IN OK, TX, KS, CA, and CO…always had a good time…you just have to know the ‘house rules’…:{)
I suppose I can imagine … I dated a musician who was in a local band that played at bars — nothing big, but of course in a small town it was big. I think it was the most unhealthy time of my life — drama wise — eventually I couldn’t deal w/ it. I’d never want to go back to that … never want to be involved w/ a musician on that intimate level … it’s really too much work for the payout. Nerds are much better I found … 🙂
at $4 beers the rif-raff hangs out elsewhere. I’ve only seen a couple of obnoxious drunks in the place since it opened 3-4 years ago.
About the only cause for concern (for us lefties) might be whether or not the Federal Marshalls are ensconced for the evening, which may be ascertained by checking with the bar tenders.
Can’t read the print from here. But I was thinking that mention of 3-4 shots of high quality tequila might shake you loose. Even thought of invoking the Holy Chihuahua incantation. I guess just the thought is enough now, ha!
very smooth, alittle on the peppery side as tequilas go. I’ve been so busy this week, that my subconscience self must’ve heard the incantation ringing through the ether.
if that’s a good idea, the last time I had a shot of this stuff I ended up in a different casino in vegas with a group of total strangers and had to walk home to my hotel, only to pass out in the hallway since I couldn’t find my key (which was in my wallet, where I had put it at the beginning of the night)
Highly recommended for afterwards though, especially as you celebrate your ace’ing of the exam.
looks of the time zone police blotter, those hours are dwindling. I hope you don’t have to go the osmosis route by passing out with your head on the book to absorb the material. You’re going to do great, your study habits are admirable even by just reading about them over the past few months.
if one has some alcohol on the breath then bizarre behavior can be excused due to the influence of the alcohol. If no alcohol is involved bizarre behavior is somewhat more difficult to account for, right?
you don’t want to get drunk yourself and you don’t want it to loosen your own inhibitions, you want it to trick others who see you mud wrestling to think you’re doing it b/c you’ve been drinking instead of mud wrestling b/c you’re bizarre … ?
I say be bizarre! Heck, I already think you all are and I know I am. 🙂
I’m pretty much a beer and wine drinker these days…love good Tequila, but it doesn’t like me very much, so care is required; cognac, after dinner…occasional G&T, V&T, or a really nice sippin’ whiskey…you?…and obviously it’s not schnapps…:{)
And it took a long time for me to be able to eat peaches! I suppose if you’re going to be turned off a drink for life, peach schnapps is the best option!
I like beer of course, wine in small amts b/c I get h/a’s from it, whiskey yes … very rare tho for me. I like to eat chocolate w/ my drinks … so brandy, cognac … Oh and I love Baileys … plain, in hot chocolate, on ice cream … 🙂 You can probably sense a theme there …
we used pour a shot of Everclear (180 proof, or 90% alcohol, still legal here) into a sixteen ounce can of Schlits Malt Liquor… didn’t take long for some form of “insanity” to set in, ha!
I still have memories of my next youngest brother and his friend with buckets by their beds that night.
So one night we were sitting in our dorm rooms at NDSU and we were wondering if either of the above was still liquid and drinkable at -30F, that’d be -22C, (I think, did that quick in my head) Well, of course we had to go out to the auto in the parking lot to conduct this little science experiment. What do you know, both were still liquid. So we each took a shot. One shot was enough. I don’t know that there was any taste whatsoever, but the sensation of cold… well, let’s just say it was way way too COOOOOOLD We did not repeat the experiment for verification purposes.
I think my first puking episode was a vodka mix. Not much better than the Schnapps…
Not long, just long enough to take the bottles out of the glove box, screw off the caps and pass them around. I can assure you the liquid was as -30F. As the ambient air had been at -30F for several hours and before that likely not over -20F
We didn’t even have the car running. It probably wouldn’t have started anyway at that temp.
she is working out greeeeeat. A dream come true. I only have to explain things once to her and she runs off with the paperwork. I can alraedy tell the difference. Thanks for askin’, I can’t wait to have some normalcy restored (knock on monitor screen)
hopefully I can take a decent vacation in August. Tomorrow is the last day of the fiscal year so I have to work on purging/setting up new files. At least the stress levels are lowered though, and a fresh personality has made the office more bearable.
On that note, I’m heading off to bed so I can be ready to function in the mornin’ Buenas noches a todos.
This is the aptly named Frog Fountain adjacent to the Rose Garden at Butchart Gardens in Victoria. We only had an hour and a half there; barely enough time to scratch the surface, especially with me in impeded mode from my dang cold. Did not get to see the Japanese garden, nor the Mediterranean/Italian garden, and only did the perimeter of the Rose Garden. The spouse wants to do a driving trip of the Vancouver Island and mainland area of British Columbia…
Here’s a closeup of the actual frog:
I will post these in tomorrow morning’s Cafe for those too asleep to see them tonight…
This was actually my third visit to there; the first was my first cruise to Alaska/Canada when I was 13. We actually visited the Gardens at night; they have beautiful illuminations. My second visit was the second Alaska/Canada cruise, that one another daytime visit (but I think we had longer than an hour and a half; the tour I booked included wine and chocolate tasting at a nearby winery).
Here’s a shot of Butchart’s crowning glory, the Sunken Garden:
This was actually the very first garden; the garden was on the site of an old limestone quarry, and when the limestone was all dug out, the quarry owner’s wife planted the garden to cover up the ugly gash — and like all good ideas, it got a little out of hand. 🙂
The gardens are still in the hands of the founding family; the current owner is the great-niece of the original owners, IIRC from our tour guide…
You can say that again. And WOW, looks like a scene right out of a fairy tale. I’ve never even heard of these gardens before. I guess I passed through that area a tad to quickly.
Here`s that puple wort you wanted. I had to go out & check something earlier. I had noticed that all the blossoms swirl ccw. I wondered if in the southern hemisphere, the curled the other way.
I put 10 pix of the worts on a background of the full wort wall.
I also took a different look at the Red hot Pokers today & came up with something different. More shortly. http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/7692/fieldofdreamsflatx107yv.jpg
Fascinating in that the images are so far out of any sort of normal context for me it takes my brain a while to make sense of, or make some sense of them.
Clean cafe and a lot of room. Come on in.
Doesn’t this always happen. A new cafe is open and nobody is around. Geeze!
I just dropped in to say good night.
And so to bed.
Night Andi. I going to head out myself. Already past my bed time.
Couldn’t go to sleep before the grand geezer though.
Night all.
Sleep well … 🙂
Have fun if i don’t see you tomorrow!
Hi Olivia(‘s)…who’s up and about this eve?
Not sure … kinda slow … as usual these days.
How are you?
One of those days when nothing of consequence gets accomplished but it wears you out…sim to FCH, I suspect.
I’m done!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that’s what the mud-wrestling was all about, eh? Couldn’t make myself go thru the whole thread(s) so I musta missed the official announcement…lost interest once I back tracked thru the ‘underwear’ section…:{)
before reading that undwr section. Granny panties <shudder> … 🙂
zenith, may I chime in?
not to be confused w/ Ralph, should be forthcoming.
How goes it NDD?
no deck building, but accomplished some other errands around town and spent a few hours with a couple of very good friends at the Hotel Donaldson. Ahh… let’s just say the “scenery” this evening was particularly interesting…
Hey, only digital video would do justice to the scene, and sadly that was lacking…
give us a verbal/radio version ‘blow by blow’ account…:{)
ha! so “vivid” you’re already a couple of lightyears ahead of my rendition.
How was your evening? Have fun?
And take a look at this genius bird … (especially the spaceship and spaceship w/ laser and evil).
pretty amazing what they can do.
The day went well. Got my acting debut video overnighted to Denver – that was the most important event of the day.
Fun? Hmmm, well, yeah, twas a fun evening.
I see you’ve done celebrated your emancipation without me… or are ya saving the big fling till after midnight?
… the interesting bits.
And my celebration is not over … are you interested in mud wrestling? 😉
of course, long as I’m still alive and kickin’
Well, Art of Art’s Park fame and KC are a couple of the greatest story tellers I know, so unless someone is up on the tables dancing and removing clothing those guys are about as exciting as it gets.

Interested in participating … not watching. I figured you and d would be up for it … 😉
NDD, you don’t frequent those table-dancing type of establishments I’m sure … 🙂
So it between the great stories, the great liquid refreshments, and the great view you had most of the senses covered … lol
only if dada would agree to take turns in the ring, (or the puddle)… due to my current sexual proclivity I wouldn’t want to be confused as to just who I had hold of in the t’ick of it… so to speak.
there’s 3 of her…we’ll tag team ’em.
outnumbered, but I suppose we could split the third bout and go five rounds each…
It’s supposed to be mindless fun … 🙂
Well, I used to have a “nutritional aid” that would get my mind into the “mindless” mode… somehow that’s gone missing… maybe dada can help out???
my Gramma used to have budgies that she’d train to talk, but nothing like that…cool vid.
Never had birds, so not too familiar w/ them.
fledglings when we were kids. That was interesting.
They flew away in the fall, but returned the next spring for a couple of days to say hi, then went into the wild for good. The used to like popcorn. I’ll have to comb the B&W photo albums some day, see what I can find of those days.
down here on the left.
NDD, re: the ‘play by play’ call and imagination…some of the bars/clubs I’ve been in have seriously disrupted my definition of reality…
Pulling a camera out in one of those would mean ya had a serious death wish…:{)
sheet mahn, “Margin Call” don’t scare me like that. Last time I had one of those was when the Ruskies invaded Afghanistan then the wheat market collapsed when Carter called an embargo, dat vus a scary week!
but you don’t do those … 😛
it usually, but not always, involved the ‘Blues’ and was in what could reliably be categorized as ‘ghettos’…some in Chicago, E. St. LOUIS, DC, VARIOUS PLACES IN OK, TX, KS, CA, and CO…always had a good time…you just have to know the ‘house rules’…:{)

no ghetto experience on this end.

About the only cause for concern (for us lefties) might be whether or not the Federal Marshalls are ensconced for the evening, which may be ascertained by checking with the bar tenders.
Are you telling me you need external motivators to mud wrestle? … d, tell me not you too!
although, visual aides are encouraged…:{)
mud from your eyes.
… you go by feel … 🙂
You know d, I’m starting to worry about NDD w/ his need for external motivators and goggles … He seems to be riding a different wave there … lol
the last couple of days…
for me!
3-4 shots of high quality tequila will suffice.
I’ll have to check Happy Harry’s and see if they’ve got any, assuming I can afford it!!!
to post on the hockey chat where DJ hangs out…she will appreciate it… 😉
I hope you’re ready to start a riot, cuz the genie in that bottle of Azul is fiesty.
The perfect study aid for my exam tomorrow…
if that’s a good idea, the last time I had a shot of this stuff I ended up in a different casino in vegas with a group of total strangers and had to walk home to my hotel, only to pass out in the hallway since I couldn’t find my key (which was in my wallet, where I had put it at the beginning of the night)
Highly recommended for afterwards though, especially as you celebrate your ace’ing of the exam.
I don’t think I have to worry about acing this one. This is the class where A students pray to get a B- and are happy if it happens.
I have appropriately low expectations for my performance. And it’s the last GD exam I am taking. Ever.
I am counting the hours till it’s over.
looks of the time zone police blotter, those hours are dwindling. I hope you don’t have to go the osmosis route by passing out with your head on the book to absorb the material. You’re going to do great, your study habits are admirable even by just reading about them over the past few months.
Aw, thanks. (But I have been a terrible slacker with this class…)
I’m off to bed. Good night everybody!
Buena suerte, you’re going to do great.
Hey there Manny! We’re sorta celebrating the end of my FCH w/ mud wrestling … but it’s turning out to be too much work w/ these two. 🙂
we’ve done snookered a couple more lurkers into the mud.
I put on my goggles first?
congrats on finishing up with FCH. Looks like there’s a light at the end of that tunnel for a few of us by the sound of things.
What dada said.
neither is Jack Black 🙂
of analysis.
He’s a pro 😉 … It’s NDD that needs all these extras. Better? 🙂
inhibitions…
I’ve discovered alcohol is a great cover… keeps the inhibited ones from thinking the noninhibited ones are “nuts” and, so therefore, in need “help”.
It’s late to be deciphering that … 🙂
if one has some alcohol on the breath then bizarre behavior can be excused due to the influence of the alcohol. If no alcohol is involved bizarre behavior is somewhat more difficult to account for, right?

I say be bizarre! Heck, I already think you all are and I know I am. 🙂
If you’re like me, and I know I am…beer break…brb. . . . . .
I spent from 0-18 in a town pop 312 in 1960 to 117 now.
So anything deviating from the “normal” mode can be a huge threat to people.
My home county always votes “blue” but that doesn’t mean they’re tolerant of anything different or new.
Even here in the big city there is no real sense of anonimity.
But as you may have surmised by now I give a whole lot less credence to what others think than the other 99% of the population do.
So what are you eating? Sweet or salty?
slices of Edam Cheese on sesame rice crackers.
or is it EverClear™…help me out here NDD
You sure you want NDD helping explain?
What’s your favourite drink?
and easier to type…:{)
It’s like stern fatherly voice … ? I should feel like I’ve done something bad … ? 🙂
ya need a middle name to add to the first to do that
Need to reset the browser and clear that comment ‘otto phil’ thingy…:{)
You better clean that soon … you might get yourself in trouble one of these days w/ an errant subject going out … 🙂
No stern fatherly voice.
figure it out. Good thing I had my snack or I’d still be clicking back and forth.
I’m pretty much a beer and wine drinker these days…love good Tequila, but it doesn’t like me very much, so care is required; cognac, after dinner…occasional G&T, V&T, or a really nice sippin’ whiskey…you?…and obviously it’s not schnapps…:{)

It’s actually extremely embarrassing …
Peach Schnapps.
Isn’t that the most pathetic thing you’ve ever heard.
that and blackberry brandy.
So one night we were sitting in our dorm rooms at NDSU and we were wondering if either of the above was still liquid and drinkable at -30F, that’d be -22C, (I think, did that quick in my head) Well, of course we had to go out to the auto in the parking lot to conduct this little science experiment. I think my first puking episode was a vodka mix. Not much better than the Schnapps…
I mean, the liquid would normalize to the outside temp right away … I sense a flawed experiment … 🙂
I hate vodka.
Do you guys think we need to put up a new cafe?
Not long, just long enough to take the bottles out of the glove box, screw off the caps and pass them around. I can assure you the liquid was as -30F. As the ambient air had been at -30F for several hours and before that likely not over -20F
We didn’t even have the car running. It probably wouldn’t have started anyway at that temp.
But they were sitting out in the glove box …
If we’re all heading to bed, it’s not worth putting up a new cafe cause it’ll have like 3 comments in it.
but I’m probably done here circa 1:30AM
if it ain’t too late…Marilyn can host
You both better stick around to at least leave a couple comments in it.
stuff I might be enticed to hang for a bit.
brain not firing on all cylinders…
how’s the new help Manny?
she is working out greeeeeat. A dream come true. I only have to explain things once to her and she runs off with the paperwork. I can alraedy tell the difference. Thanks for askin’, I can’t wait to have some normalcy restored (knock on monitor screen)
maybe you can start baggin’ a bit of that comp/flex time ya got comin’…& put things back in their proper perspective.
hopefully I can take a decent vacation in August. Tomorrow is the last day of the fiscal year so I have to work on purging/setting up new files. At least the stress levels are lowered though, and a fresh personality has made the office more bearable.
On that note, I’m heading off to bed so I can be ready to function in the mornin’ Buenas noches a todos.
and I’ll report back later on the taste test of the Oro Azul.
A couple more shots from the trip:

Now I’ve got to add that to the list of places to see!
Thanks for the vicarious experience.

A person could get lost in there w/ a camera!
I like that froggy … 🙂

I’m herding everyone over there …
Hi knuckle! Those are totally crazy … I love them. 🙂
Fascinating in that the images are so far out of any sort of normal context for me it takes my brain a while to make sense of, or make some sense of them.
Great stuff, keep ’em comin’ and welcome home!
A little something from my oriental department. I can`t figure out if it`s good or bad. The question is “whose pleasure?”
Oh, “HI, everybody.”
