Hey dada,
I liked your diary on Dadaism.
Here`s a bug I rescued from a spider web. A move caught my eye & since the spider wasn`t around, I snuck it in a lunchbox & brought it home.
Here it is doing it`s dadaist to thank me. [I think] http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/6789/redbugonpaperedgedscn1496ok6.jpg
God, those are some large eyes. Is this bug a night prowler?
Here`s that redbug again. he`s running on a sheet of printer paper that I held edgewise. The first one it`s on a curled paper. I was rolling around on the floor trying to stay in a shaft of light coming through my office window, while twisting the curled paper to keep the moving bug in the right light. I suppose that might be why anybody seeing me do these contortions would call me insane. http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/7998/redbugonpaperedgedscn1481kn6.jpg
Wow, now there`s a good shot. Dragonflies are hard to keep still to get good shots. I hear if you tickle their little feet they just remain perfectly still while you get your equipment ready.
Then here`s another. I have a large sheet or rigid foam with a white paper backing I use for backgrounds. When I want a black one I hold a cane that`s run through the arms of a black T-shirt. This one is with the white background. [What a dork] http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7984/dscn1673na2.jpg
The coral lives in one of my reef tanks. There was no color correction. I may have removed small specks such as foof particles or air bubbles or even some dirt on the tank surface, but it`s hard to enhace someting like this. It sort of speaks for itself. There`s nothing wrong with asking though, as some people even wonder if it`s real. I`ve had it for years & it`s about as big as they get. When fully opened it`s about 10/11 inches across. Here`s one so you can see the scale of it. http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/9264/tripledscn7257br7.jpg
Happy Dadaism Month! We just went and ate a patio restaurant near the university for some great woodfired pizza. Now just chillin on my porch to make sure the mosquitos eat too. Que pasa?
to believe that it comes more from an acknowledgment that each of you is different, and mutual respect of those differences, not to mention the ties of familia. You are blessed to have such a relationship.
we haven’t hung out like this in a long time (just us two), so I savored it. My mom had to work but they’ll both be back down next weekend. I think we’re going to check out Kartchner Caverns.
I keep hoping my dad will make it up my way for a visit – if my folks are going to do so, usually they choose August or September. Heck he recently retired at the ripe young age of 73, saying that after 50 years of being a working stiff, he’d had enough.
Mom’s keeping him pretty danged busy, of course. Last time I was in the OKC area, I dropped by unannounced, and I guess he’d been doing a bunch of yard work, and was hoping to get to making some roof repairs before the fall season hit.
Did I mention people tend to live and stay active for a very long time in my family? 🙂
The whole OKC metro area has changed so much just in the last 11 years that I’ve lived within a day’s drive of it. Back in the mid 1990s one could still think of Norman (where most of my relative now live) as a university town just south of the city, and these days Norman is basically part of the ‘burbs.
One constant of life there – the freeways are awful. I’m still convinced to this day that the freeways there were designed by freshman civil engineering students who were dropping mass quantities of acid. My dad has yet to disagree with me on that point.
Norman when we were there in the mid 80s, I went back a couple of years ago for a wedding and was dumbstruck at how different it is now. It, and Moore, have definitely been swallowed by OKC. An added “bonus” for the trip was that the Texas game was occuring that weekend at the OU Stadium which made parking, meals and traffic a special brand of hell. Either way, it was cool to see the old haunts.
I had to set a new rule for myself and not watch the news within an hour going to bed because I found myself tossing and turning in anger. I’ve been sleeping much better since i imposed the time-out.
I hear that. I’m craving some pizza, now that you mention it. Ah, the joys of having to feed oneself when the parents are gone. Might as well get used to it, since I head back to college in 5 days.
The last time I checked into a Froggybottom cafe, I could hear crickets chirping – or maybe that was just from the cricket invasion we’ve experienced in my building.
dropped a reply in the Bud Blogging thread. Cool on the resurgence of the radio gig. Does that mean you’ll be growing the nightowl crew ranks for awhile?
I do a 10 pm to midnite gig on Friday nites, dropping some fairly eclectic (mostly jazz) jams – last nite we had everything from Iron Sheik’s rap “Neocon Luv” to Coltrane’s half-hour “Afro Blue” jam from a 1965 Seattle gig, to some spoken word & nu jazz from Electric Barbarian’s 2004 album êl (featuring the poetry of former Last Poet Gylan Kain).
I had nearly zero jazz music enter my ears until I left home for college and have enjoyed all the threads here and the various names you, dada, Knox, Arthur, etc have dropped in comments over the past months. I’m always down to find great music.
Musically and otherwise, there are a bunch of y’all I keep learning from. And of course Arcturus has been instigating me to check into all sorts of poets I’d never heard of before.
they’ll have a new album out in January. I can’t wait. They’re providing some much-needed inspiration to young activists with every live show and song produced.
I’ve been known to drop some Steve Coleman every once in a while. I’ve got some of his early 1990s work.
Sometimes I have a pretty set playlist, sometimes I just bring a bunch of cds along with me and improvise.
I still keep hoping the university gets enough budget to afford an internet stream for the station – if that ever transpires and I’m still doing the dj gig, I’ll definitely be making some noise about it. 🙂
It often seems to me that Coleman — Steve, that is — sounds too obviously structured to satisfy many “free jazz” aficionadoes and, of course, too unorthodox to satisfy the neo-classicists.
I keep looking for listeners who fall in neither camp, but are still jazz listeners.
Heya Manny! Glad to see you after such a long (mine) absence! Still buried, drowned, floundered at work, but going to survive somehow.
I love these guys… not sure if they will be around this year, but we’re still hoping … at least we have goldfinches and hummingbirds still coming around daily.
Well, winging on out here, but great to bump into you amigo! I’m going to post my salsa recipe on the b soon (don’t hold your breath, but it will be soon). Made a killer batch last weekend and more to come…
Need any serraños? My jalapeños are huge this year!
I’m always game for new recipes. I just found one for salsa culichi that I’ve been hunting for at least two years. I found it on a few spanish-speaking sites, don’t know why i never checked those…anywho, always glad to run into you.
I said it reminded me of IVG, not that I shared his affinity for Mr. Fingers of Salad 🙂 I’m a much bigger fan of Strongbad’s Monday Emails, which probably adds a whole other layer of Weird to the mix. hehe.
Heh. Goodnight, Andi. Don’t wake up too early, now. 😉
No, no, no. I just got here. It’s Saturday. You can’t go to bed yet, Andi.
Anyone else here?
Yes, & for asking, here`s a coral for you.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6527/greenbubblecoralextendeddscn1454ed9.jpg
great pic, as always. I see the clownfish hasn’t stopped by for a bath lately.
That`s probably because he was over at the “Trumpet Corals” getting a massage.

This guy

LOL … Quite the dapper lil guy. 🙂
“Holy Eyeballs!” – that’s hilarious.
gorgeous coral … it glows 🙂
what’s new and exciting?
Hello, Olivia,
I took one of your colors yesterday. BTW, my {Cerus} is blooming again tonight with two blooms. I`m going to shoot them in a few.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3752/dscn1687du3.jpg
LOL thanks!
I love, love, love this flower too … almost as much as the Cerus … 🙂

Hey Olivia,
I just took this at 10:42 tonight which for me is 6 mins. ago.
I think this will be it for my Cerus blooms this year. It has been the best year so far though. There are two tonight.

Mercy! that’s some coral. Is that true color or enhanced? Where is it growing?

LOL P4 … 🙂
Just came back. We found a good deal on a flat screen TV at a garage sale so we’ve been enjoying the new look.
Hi P4, LOL
Flat screen tv sounds interesting … How’s your w/e been?
Puget? Puget4?
Anyone lurking? Just got done hanging out with my dad for the past 30 hours, it was great to have him here for a visit.
You had a good w/e, did ya?
it’s been great, we didn’t do a whole lot except eat and hang out. It suits us both well, tho. How has yours been?
so far so good here … a lot of nothing on the agenda, which suits me just fine for the w/e. 🙂
fun while it lasted….relaxing to be done tho, eh….:{)
Happy Dadaism Month! We just went and ate a patio restaurant near the university for some great woodfired pizza. Now just chillin on my porch to make sure the mosquitos eat too. Que pasa?
sounds like a nice visit….it’s really cool you and your dad get along!
our relationship improves, probably something to do with the fact that I am slowly transforming into him more and more each year. heh.

well for the Movement as we’ll need your agitation for many years to come! 😉 OKC has changed so much, Bricktown seemed to liven up the city alot.

(lurking)
great to you see you here, even if you’re just lurking 😉 Are you having an insomnia fit or are you just getting home from a blazing night on the town?
what u upto on this Saturday night? (presuming you’re not keres’ neighbor Down Under)
What I’m up to right now is pretty much what you see!
Neither Down Under nor insomniac, just, well, restless.
I had to set a new rule for myself and not watch the news within an hour going to bed because I found myself tossing and turning in anger. I’ve been sleeping much better since i imposed the time-out.
Still here, folks. My desktop’s being dumb, so I’m here on my laptop. What’s up?
is it the desktop you recently (re)built? Sorry to hear the gnomes are attacking.
Yeah…this is the 3rd time I’ve reformatted it. I didn’t have to the first time, but I’ve screwed it up a little ever since.
I think it’s almost good to go again now…just a matter of reinstalling every last thing…again. :/
How’re you doing?
just feelin’ too full after eating more pizza than I should have; oh well, worse things could happen 🙂
I hear that. I’m craving some pizza, now that you mention it. Ah, the joys of having to feed oneself when the parents are gone. Might as well get used to it, since I head back to college in 5 days.
were my staple meals when I was dorm-dweller a few years ago. Now my staple is a quesadilla with lots of salsa on it. So much for nutrition, hehehe.
Sounds like you’re treating your arteries very well. 😛
The last time I checked into a Froggybottom cafe, I could hear crickets chirping – or maybe that was just from the cricket invasion we’ve experienced in my building.
So, tap tap tap – is this thing on?
dropped a reply in the Bud Blogging thread. Cool on the resurgence of the radio gig. Does that mean you’ll be growing the nightowl crew ranks for awhile?

I should also give you props for tuning me into Ozomatli.
they’ll have a new album out in January. I can’t wait. They’re providing some much-needed inspiration to young activists with every live show and song produced.
Wish I could catch your show.
Any Steve Coleman?

And here I am in Arkansas.
God bless the Internet!
MOTHRA LIVES!!!
it looks like a snail with wings!
Heya Manny! Glad to see you after such a long (mine) absence! Still buried, drowned, floundered at work, but going to survive somehow.

Must. not. make. dirty. comment. 😀

if your ears were ringing earlier, it was because I saw this shirt and immediately thought of you. Can’t imagine why? 😉
There is something warped about your relationship, for certain!
I said it reminded me of IVG, not that I shared his affinity for Mr. Fingers of Salad 🙂 I’m a much bigger fan of Strongbad’s Monday Emails, which probably adds a whole other layer of Weird to the mix. hehe.
Hi!
I can’t even get close to that one. I now see that in contrast, Mr. Fingers is downright (downleft?) normal.
I must add that to my DSM-IV notes!
Cafe is always availabe to enrichen your research! lol
I’ll think about listing that as one of my “research interests” when I report to the Dean. . .
and with that, I must take my leave before even more exciting “research” ideas come along.
Is that an underwing moth?
(Great photo, by the way).
