Yep, John Prine is a treasure. I think Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon are the top three singer/songwriters of the boomer age–but John’s in the top 10 for sure. Angel From Montgomery is one of the all-time great songs, and Big Goofy World is mighty damn fine too.  One of my best high school girlfriends was a main squeeze for John for awhile in Greenwich Village in the late 1970s, and I saw him with her at a tiny little club late one night. He was friendly. I was blasted and don’t remember much of it. My main impression was his great humanity. His work is grounded in a realistic kind of love.

Wow.  John Prine is my absolute favorite performer of all time.  I went to see Victoria Williams open a show for him, because I liked her music and had no idea who he was.  By the end of the show I was transfixed, totally obsessed, picked up the guitar and about the first 20 songs I learned to play were John Prine songs.

Thanks for this pick me up, I know it wasn’t for ME, but I needed it.

Oh, but it was for you.  I am glad you enjoyed it.  I’ve loved Prine since I was a young boy.  There is something comforting about the sound of his voice and I love his lyrics.

Yeah, I couldn’t agree more.  Actually, one YouTube movie I made, of which I am very proud, featured a classic Prine Song as the background.

John Prine is one of my all-time favorites. He’s the best of America.
