Hi,
So, so these days. Some work related issues I could do without. But it’s weekend soon, and as per below; vacation as well.
Any NYC-trips on the horizon?
Sorry about the work troubles…I hope they smooth out soon.
That view from your vacation place below is wonderful.
I actually have been wanting to do another NY trip. We have a few things that need to get cleared up here (finalizing high school for CBtE next year and some other stuff) first, but that should be taken care of in the next week or so.
I’m surprised at the early year-end, though ca. 20 June was the usual.
Anyway, 3 more weeks and I’m taking the asklets to Norway for the annual trip to the cabin on the coast.
(Not the red cabin, this is the view from the veranda.)
Well, too often, it is cool and grey – but last summer, we had 3 straight weeks of sunshine, and the water had a temperature of 77-78.
Another view (early morning) from the almost the same spot:
Not that anyone cares except for me but Holy Shit!…did anyone watch LeBron James systematically dismantle the Pistons last night? The kid scored the last 25 pts of the game, double overtime to bring the Cavs back from an 0 – 2 deficit to be up 3-2 in the eastern conference finals.
I’ve already got family here. My brother, s-i-l and great nephew are still here.
It’s hasn’t started out quiet yet. I was working yesterday afternoon on a clogged kitchen sink. I didn’t get anywhere and our local repairman is coming in this morning. After that, it’s to the city to do grocery shopping.
But I do have a peaceful pond picture for a Saturday morning.

You don’t know the snakes down here. I think they keep one as a look out just to see when I’m coming out of doors. If I didn’t know better when I run back inside, I could swear I hear little hissing laughs. 🙂
The worst heat I ever experienced was in Iraq. A bit south of Mosul, side-road into the desert to look at some old, partially excavated ruins. Probably 120 in the shade (the only shade was the archway into the ruins). Claustrophobic.
Hi,
No, not really.
Heading home this morning, young asklet will come over – bringing some projects. Big sister is going to the ballet tonight, so she’ll only come in late.
I have a stopped up drain that’s turning into a major job. I think the guy has been here about two hours now and he’s had to dig in the back yard. He’s pull out all the snakes [shivers uncontrollably] from his truck and he now has found a broken drain pipe in the yard. It’s no telling what it will cost for this. I wonder if I’ll be able to eat this month.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. He was here for about 3 hours, did all that work from digging in the back yard, to running snakes through all the pipes, and patching a hole in a drain pipe and he only charged $125.00. He’s been doing our house repair for years, so we know he’s good and his price is reasonable. At least I think that’s reasonable.
Not bad at all, considering what could have been. When that happened at our house, the break happened to be smack in the center of the carport concrete. We had to run new drains from under the house to the city sewer in the street. Luckily, (or unluckily, depending on your point of view) I had some experience as a plumber and did it myself with lots of help from #2 Son. The old body would never handle slithering in and out of a crawl space now!
Hope everyone is having a fun or slackerly weekend as you so desire.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I could never be a plumber. But I would have liked to have known what to do so I could have saved that money. Then again, that was just too much work and not in my slackerly nature.
That was nearly 20 years ago and I’ve long since left the building trades to become a paper shuffler. Its not as personally satisfying as building something, but is much easier on the back;-)
For now, we’re off to a wedding reception even further out in the country than we are.
That sounds very reasonable – I guess he has some travel time as well.
Young asklet is apparently in trouble with his mother; grounded. So I have some very quiet hours before elder asklet shows up around midnight after seeing Sleeping Beauty and hanging out backstage.
Nope we’re just getting scattered showers and lucky to have what we got today. It’s sad to say, but usually during the hurricane season is when we get most of our water back.
Not sure. We’ve got thunderstorms forecast for the next three days but then again we also had them forecast for Friday and Saturday and didn’t get any rain. But today there is a 70% chance of rain and tomorrow 50% which is a lot higher than we have had.
Right now it’s just cloudy. I’m trying to decide if I can get myself going to do bike riding before the rain hits (so far not moving is winning out).
Last week was very challenging in the office (local property tax bills hit the mail Tues. for the first time since last summer). I haven’t had that much abuse since boot camp. The good ‘ole Indiana General Assembly failed again this session in the area of meaningful property tax reform and of course the local officials take the brunt.
That was half the fun of boot camp. To be already awake and see who was going to fall out of bed. The thing I hated was KP. They have contractors doing the food now of days, but when I went through, you could get put on KP for anything. That old thing about peeling a ton of potatoes isn’t a lie. 🙂
About half of our company immediately got pneumonia, so we were each treated to a massive dose of penicillin, resulting in complete leg support failure the next morning, depending on which ass cheek one received the injection. That would have been a really funny YouTube clip for sure.
I never really did much in the galley in the way of KP. The navy was much bigger on paint-chipping as busy work.
I’m trying to decide whether to kill Cat or not. Yesterday with the plumbing problem water backed up into the washer and I had a load of clothes in. It took me three washings and dryings to get the acid smell out. I left the clothes in a basket in the laundry room and Cat decided it would be a nice litter box this morning. By the time I finally get through washing them over and over they’ll be rags probably. You just can’t win sometimes.
It was enlightening, to say the least. Our company was made up of about half midwestern farm kids and the other half NYC street kids. There were some culture clashes, but most of them got worked out with minimal violence.
Much later, there were a couple of trips to Europe where I worked with German and Spanish civilian employees. It was my responsibility to learn enough of the language to get along in the job (crash firefighting) and I found that experience priceless.
I wouldn’t give up living in Europe and around the U.S. for anything. I would have never seen the places I’ve seen, or met the people I met unless I had joined the military.
Hi CG. On a happier note, my soon to be 90 mom is quite happy at her new home at assisted living. Many of her friends are living there, so she has lots of socialization and she’s delighted that someone else is fixing all her meals. We’re still waiting for her new apartment to become available, so she has a roommate temporarily. The facility is only about 5 minutes from our house, so we can go visit or take her out for lunch anytime.
Well George is whinning to go out and since it’s wet, I’ll have to carry him out to the middle of the lawn and I’ve got a breakfast casserole in the oven, so I gotta go.
Hope you don’t get any flooding but still a bit jealous of the downpur — our predicted rain was a big flop so we’re at 4 weeks without a significant rain.
Good morning, FM!
Looks like you just did.
Fun to see the young one (yasmina) holding her own with an experienced blogger like adam (and thanks for welcoming her yesterday).
TFSMIF!
ANybody got any big weekend plans?
Morning CG. You certainly up early today.
I think I’ll just dance around singing this song all day.
Sounds like a plan! 🙂
I would love to see it. 🙂
You won’t see me dancing around, but maybe raising my arms off the armchair. That gets to be pretty exhausting. 🙂
Good morning, CG and FM!
Early start for everyone this morning.
Hey, I was awake and thinking about it, so I put up a new thread.
How are you?
Hi,

Do the asklets go to camp after the vacation?
I have not made the bookings yet, due to some uncertainties.
But all should be resolved soon and plan to send them here.
Gee CG, you’re awful cheery for someone who is up when she is normally snoozing.
Good morning Andi, ask and CG.
It’s a Friday, so it has to be a wonderful day.
How is everybody this morning?
Jim’s last day with kids was yesterday. Now he just has to get his room cleaned up.
Lucky Jim and you. 🙂
Lucky Jim and not me.
Now Andi I remember last year how much you loved having Jim underfoot all the time. You can’t fool me. 🙂
Heh, he’s out riding his bike for hours at a time anyway, right? 😉
well yes but that’s after he’s slept about 3 hours later than me and then lounged around the house slowly waking up.
Good morning, Andi!
Good for Jim, I have 3 weeks to wait.
CG said the same thing. My sympathies to the kids (but yay for teachers’ spouses).
I’m surprised at the early year-end, though ca. 20 June was the usual.

Anyway, 3 more weeks and I’m taking the asklets to Norway for the annual trip to the cabin on the coast.
(Not the red cabin, this is the view from the veranda.)
it looks so cool and blue there. I’m jealous.
Well, too often, it is cool and grey – but last summer, we had 3 straight weeks of sunshine, and the water had a temperature of 77-78.
Another view (early morning) from the almost the same spot:
I remember last year when ya’ll went. Some great pictures you had. You know we’ll be expecting more this year.
I really enjoyed getting to vicariously participate in last year’s trip.
Y’all weren’t supposed to actually look at the time stamp…
Yay for Jim! CBtY has 2 more weeks, and CBtE is done now.
Nope didn’t see it. 🙁
The Nephew is up and I’ve got to get breakfast for him and get the trash out to the road before they come.
Have a good day in the pond.
Good what ever time of day it is for you.
It’s early here.
Got a quiet weekend planned or do you have family coming over?
I’ve already got family here. My brother, s-i-l and great nephew are still here.
It’s hasn’t started out quiet yet. I was working yesterday afternoon on a clogged kitchen sink. I didn’t get anywhere and our local repairman is coming in this morning. After that, it’s to the city to do grocery shopping.

How about your w/e. Got any plans?
Tranquility.
Busy, busy unslackerly you. 🙁
Nothing much planned here — trip to the grocery also, either biking or walking depending on the weather.
A trip to the grocery, plus bike or walking. A most unslackerly day.
Put some naps in their and you’ve pretty much got a description of the rest of Jim’s summer.
BTW, that’s another fine pond picture … but I am still waiting for one from the other side. 🙂
As hard as Jim works he deserves all those naps. Along with you bringing him milk and cookies. 🙂
I might try and brave the snakes this weekend and get to the other side.
Those snakes are too busy being on planes; they haven’t got time to bother with you. 😉
You don’t know the snakes down here. I think they keep one as a look out just to see when I’m coming out of doors. If I didn’t know better when I run back inside, I could swear I hear little hissing laughs. 🙂
Good morning, FM and Andi!
Humidity hit yesterday and today looks like a scorcher.
Good morning ask.
A scorcher with humidity. It almost sounds like you live down here. 🙂
It’s 72 already, and will probably hit 90.
It’s a ‘sit-very-still’ day.
You must have really died when you were over in Africa.
The worst heat I ever experienced was in Iraq. A bit south of Mosul, side-road into the desert to look at some old, partially excavated ruins. Probably 120 in the shade (the only shade was the archway into the ruins). Claustrophobic.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in that type of heat and wouldn’t want to. It’s like I used to tell one of my bosses, “I’m a fair weather technician.”
Same weather here but we’re supposed to start cooling down tomorrow.
Any big city excitement on tap this weekend?
Hi,
No, not really.
Heading home this morning, young asklet will come over – bringing some projects. Big sister is going to the ballet tonight, so she’ll only come in late.
I’m sure having the asklets at your place is its own special form of excitement.
No dull moment assured 🙂
I seem to be hooked on morning light right now.
How can you not get hooked on that?
Great light.
That is a beautiful picture Andi. You caught the light perfect.
The joy of low res — you can’t see that it’s slightly out of focus.
With the old pair of glasses I have, it look fine to me. 🙂
Lovely photo – looks as if the mists are now with us for the summer.
Tell Jim there is lots to do around our office if he gets bored this summer;-)
I think I’ll get a shower and get ready for the repairman to get here.
Everybody have a good day in the pond.
It’s 10:00 am here and I already need a drink.
Ugh, contractors that stick around is not a good sign.
Give me an hour to get home, and I’ll join you for a beer. Meanwhile, cheers!
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. He was here for about 3 hours, did all that work from digging in the back yard, to running snakes through all the pipes, and patching a hole in a drain pipe and he only charged $125.00. I thought it was reasonable for all the work he did. I thought it was going to be up around $200-$300.
I could use some quiet time right now. I could use some serious slack time at the moment, but not today.
Good morning, afternoon, evening where ever you are in the world.
It’s raining in Alabama. Well at least in my little part.
Glad to hear it. I hope it’s a good soaking one.
It’s supposed to rain today here too which will ruin my bike ride but it’s been so dry that I’m won’t mind (well, just a little) the sacrifice.
I had trouble getting back onto the site for a minute.
I’m glad for the rain because of the drought, and because of yard work, and because of……. 🙂
A bike ride sounds nice, I hope you can get it in befpre the rain hits.
I think my birthday tree will be happy with a nice soaker.
We’re supposed to get a lot of rain from the tropical depression/storm tonight and tomorrow…is that hitting you too.
Nope we’re just getting scattered showers and lucky to have what we got today. It’s sad to say, but usually during the hurricane season is when we get most of our water back.
Feast or amine with that drought vs hurricane thing, isn’t it?
Yep it always is. Of course we haven’t had amine in awhile. 🙂

I vote for not moving!
What a shock!
Just go to show that somethings remain constant. 🙂
I’m seconding FM on that today, but think you’re going to ignore our advice and enjoy that bike ride. 🙂
The weather is making the bike ride look iffy but if we don’t ride, we’ll walk — so either way, I won’t be following FM’s advice.
Good morning CabinGirl & Andi, Family Man too if you’re still around.
Good morning ID.
Yep I just got back. For such a slackerly person, I’ve been having a busy weekend.
How are you today?
Good morning, ID! I haven’t seen you in a while. How are things going?
Last week was very challenging in the office (local property tax bills hit the mail Tues. for the first time since last summer). I haven’t had that much abuse since boot camp. The good ‘ole Indiana General Assembly failed again this session in the area of meaningful property tax reform and of course the local officials take the brunt.
Oh the joys of public service. 🙂
Boot camp? What abuse would happen there?
The Coke bottle/metal garbage can alarm clock at 4 or 5 am is the cruelest thing I can recall.
That was half the fun of boot camp. To be already awake and see who was going to fall out of bed. The thing I hated was KP. They have contractors doing the food now of days, but when I went through, you could get put on KP for anything. That old thing about peeling a ton of potatoes isn’t a lie. 🙂

I never really did much in the galley in the way of KP. The navy was much bigger on paint-chipping as busy work.
Never did much with paint chips, but I will admit I never was hungry in boot camp.
This will probably get a thumbs down, but I would never want to go through boot camp again, but I’m glad I did it.
I wouldn’t give up living in Europe and around the U.S. for anything. I would have never seen the places I’ve seen, or met the people I met unless I had joined the military.
Absolutely! Time for me to rustle up some brunch for Mrs. Dem and me. Have a great and slackerly day;-)
See ya ID.

Everyone have a good day in the pond.
Just a closing shot for the cafe.
BTW that’s me at the end drinking the beer.
Good morning, Andi!
The rain surely hit us, I’m hoping for a subway flooding and no way to get to work.
Hope you don’t get any flooding but still a bit jealous of the downpur — our predicted rain was a big flop so we’re at 4 weeks without a significant rain.
No flop here, but I think we were hit by the remnants of a tropical storm. It’s letting up a bit now, it seems.
Well, just remember that if you’re going to jump in puddles, you should wear your galoshes.
The dogs think I should go get ready to walk and I guess so do I.
See ya.
Enjoy your walk!
Yup, today requires special footwear.
Good morning Andi and ask.
I see I’ve missed andi.
Good morning, FM!
Looks like you just did.
Fun to see the young one (yasmina) holding her own with an experienced blogger like adam (and thanks for welcoming her yesterday).
Hi ask.
Yeah it was fun to see her holding her own. She blew me away with one of her responses.
No thanks necessary for the welcome. I was more than happy to.
Can you give it a reco?
I’d love to see it on the list a little longer.
Sure. Happy to.
