    New cafe…

(btw, keres is counting down the hours till she leaves for NZ…)

50 hours, and about ten errands to go, not including moving the alpacas (and their hay/feed) to our friend’s place, taking Albert to Imogen’s mum’s house, and taking Luna to Puppy Camp (i.e. the kennel).  Our next-door-neighbor is looking after the ducks, chickens and veggie garden.

Everything that needs watering is on a timer.

      Today’s list:
      Bank
      Massage
      Pick-up Glasses
      Finish painting mural
      Pick-up plants that I won
      Purchase sleep pants for Imogen
      Haircut
Purchase Dog Food (four meals worth)
      Purchase Crushed Lupins [Alpaca feed]
Rent trailer (to move alpacas in)
Help friends (the ones keeping the Alpacas) catch and halter their new horse that she just got this last Sunday and has decided that everything at this new place is a bit worrisome.  I worked her about an hour yesterday and can hopefully build on that tonight.  She’s go a nasty gash on her pastern that needs medicating and that isn’t helping the situation.  Otherwise, she seems like a really nice young horse.

    Morning All!

FM, it’s not your internal clock, it’s that I was thinking the cafe needed changed and knew everyone else would be up before I was.  (See, I’m always thinking about all of you.)  🙂

Andi, I’m jealous of your dinner with Mary and hope that BCRH time goes by quickly.

Ask, I’m sorry about your computer problems.  We had that happen to one of our PC laptops, and it took a complete re-formatting to fix it.  I hope yours is more easily remedied.

CBtY is already off to school, but grumpy because he spent Saturday night at a friend’s and they were up until 4 AM, and now he’s behind on his sleep.  Why do people let the kids stay up that late?

And I am dying to post pictures of my latest knitting adventure:  socks.  They are trickier than you would think (think: how do you make a heel?), and therefore  more fun to work on.

Yes, I am a little weird.  But you knew that.

    Pass the coffee?

Please do post the socks.  I guess you love a challenge –  have you considered doing gloves?

I keep one sock that my mother knitted long ago as a reminder to myself not to fear trying the impossible.

      I think everybody’s a little weird.

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on November 12, 2007 at 9:33 am

The socks are a little further down.  Click the pics for the enlarged versions.

Now I feel like I should post the Christmas-present sweater I made for someone last year (it’s a problem with knitting, you want to show off every once in a while).  think fingerless gloves would be the ultimate challenge.

I have to confess that I like football season simply because it gives me an excuse to sit there and knit while the games are on Sunday afternoon.  I just wish yarn hadn’t gotten so expensive.

          • olivia
olivia on November 12, 2007 at 10:43 am

It has … It’s so often cheaper to buy finished products than to make them yourself. Same w/ fabric. Unless you can find a really good deal. But that’s hard to do w/ textiles b/c colours and patterns go in and out of style so quickly.

          • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on November 12, 2007 at 10:57 am

I try to factor the “entertainment costs” into what I’m willing to spend on yarn for a sweater, but even so, it’s really expensive.  I think that might be part of why so many people are ginto knitting socks; they
‘re small, quick, and not a huge financial commitment.

Here’s a picture of the next one I want to do: Alice Starmore’s Little Rivers.

    • CabinGirl

I wanted to try this pattern too, but since this is the first time I ever knit socks, I figured I’d stick with a “leg down” pattern before trying one that went from the “toe up”.

However, the making the heel part wss actually really easy, so I think the socks in the link are next on my list.  After all my guys get Christmas socks, of course.  😉

      • Denim Blue
Denim Blue on November 12, 2007 at 4:14 pm

Toe up is easier than having to kitchener stitch the toe closed on top down socks.  I finished my first pair earlier this summer.  For reasonably priced yarn, try KnitPicks.com.  Their yarn is really nice and doesn’t cause you to break the piggy bank.

        • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on November 13, 2007 at 7:04 am

I hadn’t really thought about the kitchener stitch part, mostly because I’d rather do that then sew regular seams (Ugh).  And thanks for the yarn suggestion.

I’ll definiely give the toe up kind a try.

I had a knit group a few years ago, and it had the decided benefit of making me have to show progress of some sort every 2 weeks.  I cleaned up a UFO or 2 that way…and did this baby sweater x 2 for a friend who was having twins.

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on November 13, 2007 at 7:53 am

The younger one is the sleepyhead here.  And then when he finally does get up,, he complains because he hasn’t got any time left to get ready for school.  Which in turn drives me insane.  😉

The older one is on autopilot: he usually just gets up, gets ready, and goes without much parental intervention needed.

        • Second Nature
Second Nature on November 13, 2007 at 8:23 am

I went through that with two of the kids….not naming any namesOwenColin.  I used to knock myself out trying to wake them up and finally just removed myself from the whole situation and let them be late a few times which results in after school suspensions.  That learned ’em.

        Good morning, Andi and CG!
The kids are off all of next week? Good for them.

        BCOD?

            Now it seems obvious.
We’re supposed to get heavy rain today, and drop from current 60 to low 40s later today. I think I’ll get under the covers again.

It’s cold and windy here. The sound of the wind in the dry fall leaves is my idea of a lullaby.

We’ve had rain all week…even the days that were supposed to be ‘nice’ were wet.

I’m getting cabin fever, but hopping back under the covers sounds pretty good this morning.

Wow, your kids get the whole week off? I won’t tell Jim; he’ll be insane with jealousy.

Yep, the whole week.  CBtE actually has the Monday after off too…CBtY’s school has ‘conferences’ the first 3 days of next week, so the teachers aren’t off but the kids are.

Wow, a whole week.  I want to go back to school.

      Good morning, Andi!
A NZ vacation in spring sounds great, let’s hope keres will do a photo diary (or two) of the trip.

        Howdy ask.

She’d better — I promised to babysit Thursday Dog Blogging the next two weeks in return for loads of pictures. 🙂

That sounds like a good deal.
Big weekend plans? Mine were canceled, swimmer is too busy even for a quick trip to McGill. curly will be out of town for the weekend – so I’ve got plenty of time on my hands.

We have our usual weekend plans — I’ll go for a walk and Jim will go ice skating.

I would think that you wouldn’t have too much trouble in NYC finding something to do with all that unfettered time.

I’ll have lots of quality time with young asklet.
Off, entire body aching; I’m hoping to get into better shape and signed up for some classes, the first was last night.
