They’re length-of-daylight-dependent. I could fix that by running a light out to their house, but it would be kind of a pain to run a power cord that far.
I miss my blue egg chickens (something got them, I think it was a fox.)
The weekend is just flying by. We went to the city and ordered a new bathroom sink yesterday (and finally found one small enough for the upstairs bath re-do!), and it was late afternoon by the time we had lunch and came home.
So it’s back to school for the youngest Nature boy tomorrow?
I wish someone around here was handy because we need two bathrooms and the kitchen remodeled. I’m getting estimates for a total kitchen makeover and they’re not pretty.
I got bathroom estimates, and they were unbelievably high…nothing less than $7000 for a bathroom that’s less than 4′ x 8′. I didn’t want anything fancy, either.
So instead, my ex-husband is going to to do some plumbing work for me, since he was doing bath remodeling before the construction work began to dry up around here.
I’d love to do a chi-chi kitchen makeover, but the price…oy.
Nope, dog and two cats. Used to be a lovebird too but I pawned that off on my daughter and it’s much quieter around here as a result. Spring arriving in MI yet?
It started in late Feb here, and it’s been just gorgeous. Right now the azaleas, dogwoods, redbuds, and cherry trees are all blooming along with all of the bulbs and the pansies that survived throughout the mild winter. And everything is that bright and tender green…which of course will wither and die in the heat in a couple of months, so I enjoy it while it’s here.
1 out the door (but not on the bus yet) and 1 to go.
We all overslept a little bit. I’m usually up 20 minutes earlier than everyone else, and if it hadn’t been for the birds twittering outside, I would probably still be asleep.
Probably so we could enjoy more of the spring weather we don’t have…CBtY only had a week, btw, while CBtE had 3 weeks (I think because of the large number of international students).
At least the young NB has one last day (today) to get his learner’s permit replaced at the DMV. Last week it was the SS building to get his card replaced, and before that it was sending away to the county of his birth for his birth certificate. The Boy lost his wallet AND all of his vital papers, which I had recently turned over to him to be responsible for. You gotta love ADD, right? I mean you literally HAVE to love it or it will drive you nuts.
Who knows if it will prevent a next time. My daughter also has ADD but she’s developed a system for keeping herself organized which includes lots of post-it notes stuck all over her house. B can’t get his shite together.
First time to break 70 this spring. Unfortunately, the temps are going drop after today (and crap, there’s a low of 32 in the extended forecast) but still I’ve got hopes for some green to start showing very soon.
Good morning!
I’m glad that came with an explanation.
swimmer is here and we’re trying to narrow down the choices for college. Looks like we’re down to two.
Well down to two is pretty good winnowing. My prejudice is to go for the school that you feel is the best overall fit — I’d put academic considerations lower down because every good school will give you a good undergraduate education.
We fully agree with your assessment and now try to determine in which environment she’ll be most comfortable. One is an Ivy League school, the other a small liberal arts college.
She’ll go to the former tomorrow for a couple of days, then (re)visiting the other for a few days next week.
She’s only been to one of them before (our trip last fall) for a half-day introduction.
I’m fine with either, though the smaller school is a bit further away.
Good luck with that. I’d also add that as long as she does well, she will likely get into the grad school of her choice, if that is her intent. The school name on the certificate becomes of less imortance.
Parking is generally notoriously bad for regular events anyway, so I was thinking even a bit earlier. I have to call school and let them know the boys aren’t coming in. CBtE already got permission from his school, which is a good thing since one of the administrators and 2 students are going to be there too.
It is absolutely bizarre to have someone campaigning for the presidential primary just down the hill from our house. It’s usually totally over by April.
I was a little surprised by how impressed they were with the whole thing, and with Obama. CBtE actually wants to do some canvassing, which is cool.
I hope you didn’t have any big outdoor plans this weekend. I think we have till tomorrow for the rain to get here, so I’ll definitely be taking the pooches out for a stroll.
Getting involved in the political process at a young age is a good thing, I think. I got started at 18 (this was when you had to be 21 to vote) with Eugene McCarthy.
I don’t think there are going to be any all day rains so I’m hoping to be able to get outside this weekend at some point.
They were saying that it felt a little surreal at first to be there listening to someone who is most likely going to be the next president speak to them.
At the public high school, they have a 40-member ‘Obama Student Union’ helping the campaign out locally. I think CBtE enjoyed being able to see kids from the old school yesterday too.
It was really nice to see so many people (and such a wide range of people) show up yesterday. And the volunteers all seem like they’re having fun every time we see them anywhere. Good folks.
We’re going to be doing some spring cleaning this weekend to get ready for our special company that’s coming to visit and help GOTV the last few days before the primary. Hopefully our new bathroom sink will be in today so my ex can install it this weekend.
Morning Miss Andi and Cabingirl!!!! The rain and thunder has started in Texas and Bette is sitting on my feet. LOL
Cabingirl, I saw the pictures from yesterday and I think it is great that the kids were able to go and seemed to enjoy it. I love the fact that younger folks want to get involved.
Good morning! How are you doing on this fine Thursday, Mr. refinish?
Can I admit how adorable I thought the high school kids were yesterday? They were all so excited and interested, the young lady who got to ask a question asked a good question, and she didn’t seem very nervous doing it. It was so good to see that young people are more engaged than I remember being in high school.
It was also nice to see the new assistant principal, who is an old friend of my brother’s from high school (they actually both went to Great Valley!), and seems to be just delighted to be there doing his job.
I am doing good. would be better if Bette would get off my feet but I know she is scared. LOL Working on some designs and a diary I am writing about voter suppression. I have errands I need to run later but it all depends on the weather. I was running a fever yesterday so doubt I will go out today if the rain and all doesn’t let up. I feel better today but don’t want to take chances.
I think it’s great about the kids at the school. I was involved in stuff like that but the “biggest” candidates I ever saw were ones running for Governor untill I was much older.
I had a dog who was terrified of thunderstorms…so much so that she got into bed with us when they happened at night. she hadn’t been like that as a young dog, but as she got older, they started to freak her out.
There’s a nasty flu running around out there, so take care of yourself.
this is our first sunny/dry day in 11 days – a rare stretch of gloomy weather down here. I was starting to get peeved. But it put a big dent in our drought and that’s a good thing. But Hopeful,Jr has been driving me crazy – unable to run her craziness out at the dog park.
Is this too on-topic generally to be on-topic for the lounge? I hope not. 🙂
I was wondering if any of youse guys & gals have been to a local “Drinking Liberally” event. I was delighted to see an Oakland, CA chapter… and then looked at the blog, to see this crap (and I’m not denouncing it because I disagree, but with how poorly it’s researched and written): http://oakland.drinkingliberally.org/.
Does anyone know what’s up?

To be more appropriately off-topic: the parrot is walking around the kitchen floor, the dog and the boyfriend are sleeping, and it’s nice and sunny. Really, a lovely day to be recovering from the stomach bug!
We go to our semi-local Drinking Liberally in Philly, and it’s always been a fun group to socialize with. Besides meeting once a week for a few beers, we all usually wind up seeing each other at various political events, and we’ve made quite a few friends there that we socialize with outside of DL.
I can see why you might be a little put off by the, um, bad grammar and um, (fill-in-your-own descriptor here) displayed in those posts, but I ‘m pretty sure kid oakland goes to that DL, and he’s one of the nicest people you could ever meet.
I’d give it a try and see. If it turns out not to be your cup of tea, you can always leave after one beer.
Oh, I’ve enjoyed Kid Oakland’s blog when I’ve read it… definitely a wee bit different from the one I linked to! I think you may have talked me to into going. 🙂
I went to a few in my little town (right across the Hudson from Manhattan) a couple of years ago, but there was insufficient interest and they were discontinued.
Right after you hop a train or a plane and come to ours. LOL I was offered a place to stay in Philly to help with the GOTV for Obama as a volunteer but could not leave the Diva Dogs or the job hunt to go.
Clean cafe here…
Good morning! Finally, a place to sit.
I was busy sleeping in…not too hard with the gray skies that have rolled in this morning.
How are you this morning?
I’m great – after cleaning up a bloody noise.
I’ve finally fed and bathroomed the livestock and gotten my coffee…now ask has gone out for bagels and Andi is traipsing through the woods…
Good morning, CG and Toni! 🙂
Thanks for reminding me I need to go get the eggs out of the henhouse. 😉
What are you up to this fine morning? I have about an hour before I head out to my yoga class.
I am up to lots of no good. Mmmm, fresh eggs…
No good, eh? Sounds about right. 😉
Fresh eggs are the best. I’m so glad the winter is over and the hens are laying eggs again (they take time off in the winter).
I did not know that. I buy organic eggs, but they’re still nowhere near as tasty as yours. Or as pretty.
They’re length-of-daylight-dependent. I could fix that by running a light out to their house, but it would be kind of a pain to run a power cord that far.
I miss my blue egg chickens (something got them, I think it was a fox.)

I’d love to do a chi-chi kitchen makeover, but the price…oy.
I agree. I’ve never had fresh eggs, but I would love to try them!
The yolks are bright yellow-orange, and the whites are thicker than store bought eggs, so they don’t run all over the pan when you cook them.
MMM…now I’m hungry.
Fresh eggs are the best but of course that could be memories of being at my grandma’s house coloring them memory. LOL
Livestock? The kids?
Nope, dog and two cats. Used to be a lovebird too but I pawned that off on my daughter and it’s much quieter around here as a result. Spring arriving in MI yet?
Just starting. It will be 60 degrees today. Finally! I’m sure you’ve had spring for a while.
Time for breakfast. See everyone later.
See y’all this afternoon.
curly put me to work. Living room windows are now clean and new shades are going up.
Our annual JJ Dinner was last night. It was the biggest ever and excitement is definitely in the air.
You should write up a diary about it.

Morning Miss Andi!!! Beautiful picture as always.
and thanks. But it’ll be a lot prettier when the green finally shows up.
It’s much foggier in my head.

Mine too.
Great picture as usual.
Everybody up and getting ready for the day?
1 out the door (but not on the bus yet) and 1 to go.
We all overslept a little bit. I’m usually up 20 minutes earlier than everyone else, and if it hadn’t been for the birds twittering outside, I would probably still be asleep.
Why does Monday come so fast?
Why does Monday come so fast?
Because life is cruel and the calendar is relentless.
And on a cheerier note, it’s finally light enough that I can walk in the morning so I’m going to get going.
See ya later.
Heh, I think this is the week that I start walking in the morning too. The dawgs are goiong to be so delighted.
Have fun!
Good morning, Andi and CG!
Ah, sleeping past 7 am, wonderful.
I’m jealous…How was your weekend?
We had a good weekend. I overdid practice Saturday morning and took two consecutive lessons. Resulting in very sore thighs and hip flexors.
Ouch.
Oh yes, today is back to school for both of mine.
Two weeks is too long a spring break.
I am wondering why both your kids and CG’s kids had two weeks off. My crew has always just had the week, no matter where we lived.
Probably so we could enjoy more of the spring weather we don’t have…CBtY only had a week, btw, while CBtE had 3 weeks (I think because of the large number of international students).
At least the young NB has one last day (today) to get his learner’s permit replaced at the DMV. The Boy lost his wallet AND all of his vital papers, which I had recently turned over to him to be responsible for. You gotta love ADD, right? I mean you literally HAVE to love it or it will drive you nuts.
Yikes. Will the experience of having to replace everything help avoid there being a next time?
(ps, I have locked the keys in the trunk of rental cars while traveling no less than 3 times, and I don’t have ADD. Just sayin’)
Who knows if it will prevent a next time. My daughter also has ADD but she’s developed a system for keeping herself organized which includes lots of post-it notes stuck all over her house. B can’t get his shite together.
I’ll probably get smacked for this, but I think organizational skill differences have some basis in gender.
< smack >
See, I knew that would happen…
Ya think? 🙂
I’m afraid I have no rational explanation.
Even they think it’s too much.
First time to break 70 this spring. Unfortunately, the temps are going drop after today (and crap, there’s a low of 32 in the extended forecast) but still I’ve got hopes for some green to start showing very soon.
Good morning, Andi!
Spring really is late – it was only Sunday that I noticed the first fresh, budding leaves on some well located trees.
I saw a few tiny, tiny leaf buds and some signs of blossoms on the redbuds yesterday but nothing opening. I am so very ready for some color.
Why do people snore the loudest at 5 am? Is it a cruel plot to rob me of my REM sleep?
Since getting my own room I’m sleeping like a baby. No more lying there contemplating smothering my partner with a pillow.
Hmm…nah.
At least it’s not every night.
So, Obammy is coming to the local HS tomorrow, and the boys want to skip some school and go to the rally. Should I let them?
Hell yeah! History, baby.
Are you kidding?
It should be compulsory…
All righty then…I guess I’m heading out for tickets this morning.
Yes!
Yes!
And what SN said … 🙂
Yes. I took the b2boy out to see our congresscritter, John Hall, when he was campaigning. He liked going very much.
Even funnier when reading your sig line as part of the comment.
I got the tickets!
I’m pretty excited (as are the CBs).
Cool.
Give us a report tomorrow.
How big is the venue, small(ish) I guess, since it’s at a HS?
except for the CabinFamily — for them, it’s VSGRNOHD*
*very special going to the rally no school hump day
Good morning!
I’m glad that came with an explanation.

She’ll go to the former tomorrow for a couple of days, then (re)visiting the other for a few days next week.
Wow. Big decisions. I’m glad she gets to re-visit them both before making the final choice.
Do you have a first pick?
She’s only been to one of them before (our trip last fall) for a half-day introduction.
I’m fine with either, though the smaller school is a bit further away.
Multi-day visits sound like an excellent idea. Also, fun.
The schools invited, all costs/tickets paid!
Wow. Are they offering money towards tuition as well?
I was surprised too.
I think she’ll find out more about financing through these trips.
Good luck with that. I’d also add that as long as she does well, she will likely get into the grad school of her choice, if that is her intent. The school name on the certificate becomes of less imortance.
Accompanied by a slight bout of sleeping in this morning…I think we’re all pretty excited about going.
I’m wondering when we should get there if the doors open at ten.
I’d think at least 30 minutes ahead of time. I’m betting there will be a pretty long line.
Parking is generally notoriously bad for regular events anyway, so I was thinking even a bit earlier. I have to call school and let them know the boys aren’t coming in. It is absolutely bizarre to have someone campaigning for the presidential primary just down the hill from our house. It’s usually totally over by April.
And of course, it’s another damp grey day today.
Hope you all have a great time.
It’s gray and damp here too and I’m about to head off into it.
Looking forward to hearing all about it.
Ta.
You must be all exited!
Bring books and be early.
There is rain forecast everyday from today through Sunday. I am soooo thrilled.
Ah, the old “What follows 3 days of rain? Monday?” scenario…
That sucks. Will you be able to squeeze your walk in before it starts today?
Well it sure took a long time to be able to do this little comment — I guess the server decided to take a little early morning nap.
The radar shows that the rain nearing Indiana border but it’s just the leading edge so I should be able to have a dry walk.
How did the CBs enjoy their moment of history?
That’s weird. It’s working fine for me now.
I kept getting server error messages.

Ugh cleaning and plumbing. Not my idea of a delightful way to spend the weekend — but it would make Monday’s arrival a lot less unpleasant. 😉
I guess I’m going to go head off into the twilight so I can beat the rain.
Have a good one.
Morning Miss Andi and Cabingirl!!!! The rain and thunder has started in Texas and Bette is sitting on my feet. LOL

Ty, I plan to take care of myself. I have no choice since I have no insurance. LOL
Here are some Obama designs you might like.

LOL You can take her to the dog park so she can find all the mud holes today. LOL
She will find every single one of them! Morning, RF. 🙂
Morning Second Nature!!!
Sunny and warm here as well. We’re supposed to see 70 today.
Is this too on-topic generally to be on-topic for the lounge? I hope not. 🙂

Hi eeblet, and welcome to the lounge!
We go to our semi-local Drinking Liberally in Philly, and it’s always been a fun group to socialize with. Besides meeting once a week for a few beers, we all usually wind up seeing each other at various political events, and we’ve made quite a few friends there that we socialize with outside of DL.

I go to drinking liberally here in Austin at least twice a month and love it!!!
When are you going to hop an a train and come to ours? 🙂
Right after you hop a train or a plane and come to ours. LOL I was offered a place to stay in Philly to help with the GOTV for Obama as a volunteer but could not leave the Diva Dogs or the job hunt to go.
That would have been so cool!
I missed your reply yesterday.
Yeah, I should, but they run too late…
because it’s not everyday I capture the sunrise in a raindrop (well it wasn’t Friday but the FSM isn’t a literalist).
