Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news. We were inspired by the folks at European Tribune who post a regular Friday Photoblog series to try the same on this side of the virtual Atlantic. We also thought foto folks would enjoy seeing some other websites so each week we’ll introduce a different photo website.
We can’t wait to see all the great photos that Bootribbers have taken.
Photo Website of the Week: Onexposure is an online photo community, where photos are screened by site editors before being published and voted on by members of the community. The quality of work is outstanding. As they state on the site, “Onexposure is like a constantly evolving high class photo gallery with new art every day.” Take a peek!

Info on Posting Photos
When you post your photos, please keep the width at 500 or less for the sake of our Bootribers who are on dial-up. If you want to post clickable thumbnails but aren’t sure how, check out this diary:
Clickable Thumbnails. If you haven’t yet joined a photo-hosting site, here are some to consider: Photobucket, Flickr, and ImageShack.
I especially like the “Maori face tattoos” and the “flower or starfish?” photos.
This was a great idea.
Great idea.
Shoot me, if I don`t send a few in.
And please, y`all have a great Labor Day weekend.
And girls, fabulous fotos.
girls?!… you better duck head. it’s ladies
:{)
Very nice!
so how’s about a picture from you … flowers or beaches or hopeful or kids or kids’ paintings or whatever.
Hopeful … 😀
I decided that Jim ought to post some pictures (prerogatives of a long marriage include pretending you know what your spouse is thinking).

Love the framing of both of these shots. Were you using the 18-200mm?
Hi Olivia,
They were both shot with the 18-200 zoomed out either all the way to 200 or close. I do that frequently when I am too tired, lazy, afraid of dust from switching lenses, or have forgotten to pack my macro lens.
The photos … 🙂
Yeah, not having to switch lenses was a big plus when I was in Europe.
Here are two I’ve taken in the last couple weeks:
Great Wall of China, Badaling section
Sunset over Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO
I’ll see your Kauffman Stadium and raise you a Jacob’s Field
Wow, that’s a great picture! I love the color of the sky.
So is that Jacob’s Field or “Progressive Field”? 😀
I’ll see your Jacob’s Field and raise you a Busch Stadium!
It is Jacob’s Field in the same way Invesco Field is Mile High Stadium. 🙂
Jacob’s Field at Progressive Stadium?
Either way, it’s definitely the closest of the MLB stadiums to where I am that I haven’t yet been to. Hopefully I can make it out next summer!
I love that picture. It’s just wonderful. I think Owen should use it as inspiration for a painting.
The colours – the blue and green together are so vivid.
They’re both great shots, EJ, but I gotta admit I’m pretty wowed that you went to China.
Heh, me too 🙂
I had a friend who was getting married there, and he and his fiance set up this whole two week tour. We got to see Shanghai, Quanzhou, Yellow Mountain, Xiamen, and finally ended up in Beijing for a couple of days (during the Olympics!!). It was an amazing experience. I’ve been back for almost 2 weeks and I’m still sorting through the photos!
Gee, and I consider myself lucky if a wedding has an open bar. 😉
Once you get your pics all sorted out, I hope you’ll do a diary about the trip. It would be fascinating to read and see.
I’ll give it a whirl – my diary writing skills are probably a bit rusty, but at least there should be some good pictures to back it up 🙂 I’m getting together on Monday with some of the others who went on the trip and we’re going to exchange pictures then (in a big laptop nerd-fest), so I’ll try to get something up late next week.
Have you added any personal pics to that age-progression photo diary of yours? I love that thing!
Nope. I haven’t had my picture taken by a professional photographer since the last one that’s been up there – and trust me, you only want to see pictures of me taken and touched up by a professional!
Great! Now I’ve got something to look forward to.
Hi ej — been a long time. 😀
That first photo is amazing — what was it like actually being there, standing on the Great Wall?
And I’d love to read about your travels and see some pix too!
Hey olivia!
It was pretty amazing, I have to admit. I guess it’s obvious, but I’ve never seen anything like it, both mind-bogglingly big and old. I imagine the pyramids must be similar.
I didn’t know how steep some of the sections were, there are stairs in parts, but in others, it is just this very steeply angled ramp that you have to walk up or down. One guy who was on his way down had very little traction on his shoes so he just slid down!
One of my co-travelers mentioned what a ludicrous idea it is to build a wall that runs the entire length of your country’s border just to try to keep people out. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say how much I agreed and to take a shot at those who want to do it on the U.S. / Mexico border 😉
And yeah, coming from NA it’s an interesting experience … grasping the history of something like that.
That’s a story to tell: sliding down the Great Wall … heh. Do they have any one up there, or are people free to wander?

Those are real eye-benders — especially the middle one.
The first one, (trompe l’oeil, garmisch, ger.) is that one of your scanned photos? If so, wow — the detail is amazing! That door is gorgeous, and love the artwork … 🙂
Also, love the theme!
yep, scanned from a slide. the scans, even on a relatively inexpensive film scanner are grat. in fact, l may resurrect my old fil cam and lenses, because the quality is actually better than what the xt can do, in terms of raw data. big disadvantage is the file size….they’re huge. but the new mbp seems up to the task…:{)
and speaking of themes
one of the things l really like about the ET Photoblog is the way it’s organized.
typically there’s an ask the experts section for technical questions, etc. which could be a very nice inclusion, esp if head and others w/ PS knowledge participate, as well as general phot questions regarding equipment, techniques, etc.
then they often do a second section that’s themed…[theoretically announced beforehand…which l usually miss]…which l also think would be a good idea. esp for people like me. l find/found that for general photography, ie: not traveling, or whatever, that it’s invigorating to work with an “overriding” idea or “theme” in mind, and it’s also commonly used in competitions…interpretation is up the the individual and it presents a challenge.
and then their photos as usual section.
seems to work well, esp. now that most of the regular posters know where and how to put their stuff up.
might want to ask LEP or in wales if they’d mind you copping their format…though it is a very sincere flattery.
food for thought, eh.
later….it’s beer:30 here.
One thing’s very clear. Them euro-folks are whole more willing to do a buncha work than this here murkin (can’t speak for the canuck).
not a lot of work, imo…just the simple act of formatting the comments, ala ET, would provide a forum for all those kinds of questions and let everybody participate and ask questions and/or provide input/assistance at whatever level they’re comfortable. l suspect there’s a lot of questions people would like to ask but are too shy to do. stuff like posting/formatting/html tips. l know when l was learning this stuff you and many others in the cafe and first fotofair were really helpful.
you and olivia don’t have to be the hall monitors or answerer’s. there’s a lot of knowledge, skill, and expertise lurking around here that this might encourage.
like l said, just food for thought. it’s your gig, l’m just riffin’…bein’ lateral. :{)
Interesting that you’re thinking of pulling your film cam gear out. When I first got the d70s I took a short 3-hr course (intro to DSLRs) and a few of the other attendees were film photogs making a switch. One of them was talking about how hard he was finding it – making the change.
Here’s the canuck’s thoughts 😉 … I like how ET has their photoblog organized w/ those sections. Not sure how this one will evolve, but I do like the idea of a theme. Something to work towards. We could do that and leave it open for people to ask questions, post links, post their photos – general and theme-oriented. What do you think?
Got a suggestion for next week’s theme? 🙂
sure, keep it simple and open to interpretation…how about RED?
let it run around in your head and see what it leads to…eh. :{)
The theme for next Friday. Got a week to let it run … 😉
Red, is the color of rum.
Redrum, redrum.
Ok, I`ll figure out how to do what you lady girls did to post the shots this way & I`ll be back in the red come Friday.
Good suggestions dada. Obviously well received also.
See how Canucks are.
Hopeful is so adorable … 🙂
Whitey (that’s what you get when you put teenage boys in charge of naming the cat) dreaming about lunch.
How do you know he isn’t just trying to make sure that are 3 pellet in there?
Three things impress me about this photo:
1 You hire your cat as a fish sitter.
2 Your cat can read your note.
3 Your cat can count at least up to 3.
Of course. See what you snobby dog people have been missing out on all these years? What she doesn’t do, however, is lick my feet, so she runs a distant second to Hopey.
My son shot this in Quito…it sort of disturbs me:
He took this photo in Tungurahua Nacional park in a lava field:
I have to admit that male mannequins really caught my … uh … eye.
The lava field shot is gorgeous.
The second one from the right looks like Conan O’Brien, although the thought of him naked makes my mind’s eye sort of sick.
How they have different pkg sizes … lol
Agree w/ Andi — that shot from the lava fields is great – love the composition.
So just how do you know what Conan O’Brien looks like naked? 😉
first photo: Mae West’s line about a hard man is good to find come to mind but these guys seem to be coming up short.
second photo: I love the glow and the depth of field. Great photo. Are these some form of yucca?
What are you talking about?! That guy on the right is “coming up short”?

Thanks for posting this andi!
What a great idea! I’ve been lurking the ET photoblog for quite some time, usually on Saturday. I’ll look through my stuff for next Fri.
In keeping with the “red” theme, I had to wait till my “Tomato Worm” sun-ripened.

Just dropping in, to check out the RED theme.
No matter how you spin it, it`s a wide web out there.
