From the Boston Phoenix, no less:
Some pundits have praised McCain’s fighter-pilot mentality in this campaign: the way he shifts and turns on a dime. Yet those qualities aren’t necessarily what the electorate is looking for in a president. To use another well-worn metaphor, voters want their ship of state to sail smoothly, without incident, so they can go about living their lives and pretty much ignoring their government.
After eight years of this shit, Lord, is that ever true!
Did he just say that?

All of which is great if this bail-out actually ends this crisis – which few people seem to think it will. Whether McCain likes it or not – the economy is going to remain centre stage for the rest of this campaign.
“the economy is going to remain centre stage for the rest of this campaign.”
if only that were so. How about until 2012
There was a press conference minutes ago House Republicans, a rebel group, wants bailout cut to $250 billion –will seek an amendment.
And look at this idiot who aspires to be president –
Clueless
Here are the questions on BloombergTV as I write….“Are we not spiraling into a Depression?”
We may not get to Election day. Unless the LIBOR rate drops sharply we’ll be in a different financial planet next week. It’s beyond banks. Companies are out of funding.

I know, I can’t wait for it.
I live for that and I’ll pop the cork on a bubbly.
Send Lieberman a mini violin.
How about his guy giving up on Michigan?
Of course, that dime is now worth abiut 6 cents.

I like this comment from your link …
Impulsive to a fault, in the past several weeks McCain has certainly been anything but steady at the helm. The economy is good — oops, no it isn’t. I’m for the Paulson plan — no, maybe I’m not. I won’t be going to the debates unless there’s a bailout deal — oh, I guess I’ll go.
Palin should step down to “save McCain, her party, and the country she loves”.

got him shot down in Vietnam
Let’s hope the same general thing happens this time.
AG
and as Jeff Huber notes in his diary today, Fibber McCain is “still trying to figure out how to win in Vietnam”.
Not to mention that his experience includes crashing 4 planes before that incident. It helps to have connections.
Maybe he’s just a bad fighter pilot? Actually he got shot down as an A-4 pilot. Not a “top gun.”

WASHINGTON DC April 8, 2008 – McCain attended a rally sponsored by the pro-Iraq war Vets for Freedom, where he continued to praise Petraeus, calling him “one of [America’s] greatest generals.”
Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia introduced the Arizona senator, telling those in attendance he wants his sons to view McCain as a role model, versus someone like Tiger Woods.

I’ve never been in a fighter jet, but I have been on a ship (of state). Take it from me, you can get plenty sick on the ship.
