Hillary Clinton was just confirmed as Secretary of State. Only Diaper Dave Vitter (R-LA) and Jim DeMint (R-SC) voted against her. We can expect to hear who Clinton’s replacement in the Senate will be before the weekend. I’m actually quite curious to find out who Governor Paterson will select. Unlike many in the blogosphere, I kind of like the idea of Caroline Kennedy. But I really don’t care a whole lot either way as long as the new senator is a decent liberal.

Agree with you. Why not Caroline Kennedy? She is a certain vote for left wing or liberal legislation, and most certainly, like her uncle, stands to the left of the Reaganite centrist people who still influence the party.
Son of Cuomo would be a good alternate choice, perhaps for the same reason, but is he really a chip off the old block. I remember when Cuomo Senior spoke at a Democratic Convention. He spoke right from an FDR liberal-socialist frame of reference and sounded old fashioned because he actually had the nerve to mention the poor. The speech finished his career.
When Democrats get over Reagan, that is when we….well fill in the blank yourself.
yeah, I don’t like legacy appointments any more than Caroline’s critics, but I put that far below voting record. I don’t need a Blue Dog senator taking Clinton’s place just because people were queasy about a legacy. Give me a good liberal and I’m happy. Caroline’s a good liberal. So is Jerrold Nadler and many other worthies.
on certain issues. She’s no pushover, but she doesn’t appear to be as liberal as some might think, from reading some of her feelings on issues. Moderate to conservative, more like.
Andrew Cuomo’s star has really risen as a kind of compromise. If dad was coming off like a socialist progressive decades back, then perhaps that is what we need to hear once in a while from the Senate other than Bernie’s voice from his Vermont seat.
Caroline Kennedy just dropped out of consideration, apparently over concerns about her uncle Ted’s failing health.
HuffPo?
I don’t think Unca Ted’s illness would make her that skittish. There is his (second) wife and children.
It means Paterson has made his decision, and it wasn’t her.
So… What did Cornyn get read into the record (Bill’s donors, etc) in the end?
Transparency and completeness of the record is a good thing even if some evil wanking bastard came up with the idea.
I’d be interested to see if he continued to get considerable money from Indonesian sources. There is something afoot between the old Indonesian elites, the current regime and the US/Dems.
I agree about Caroline Booman. I understand the Netroots nepotism concerns but Caroline would have voted much better than the Blue Dog, Anti choice/Gun Nut conservative who Patterson is about to pick in Kirsten Gillibrand. She is Pelosi hater and pretty much a DINO.
Caroline received terrible advice from Bloomberg’s goons and they should never work in politics again but of course, they will still get gigs as “consultants.”
My guess is Jane Hamsher&co, who trashed Caroline before he debacle upstate press tour, will still complain about Senator Gillibrand even though they deserve some of the blame for getting another DLCer into the US Senate over a solid progressive.
