Yes, I’m already running late again.
On Thursday Luna, the pups, and I went to visit a nursing home near Hobart. Normally Luna visits there once every week, but she hasn’t been since a week before she had the puppies – what with the full-time mothering and all.
But since we’ve started the pups on solid food and hope to have them weaned in a week or so, we decided it was time to take the whole family for a visit, and that Luna would start back on her regular rounds next week.
Here’s the link to the write up in the paper, which is rather large so that you can read the text (and it’s redacted because I like my personal details personal).
The look of that man!
What happiness the little puppies bring – it must be very rewarding to be part of that program.
Actually Jack looked a bit over-whelmed.
I’ve been doing some form of “pet therapy” for about four years now. The dogs certainly love it.
In truth, I’m not really interested in “rewarding” as much as I think that, whatever it is, were all in it together. Therefore the only real way to make my life better is to better the lives of others (obviously, I’m not the first person to come up with this philosophy).
I’m not the world’s most social person, so it’s easier for me to let the dogs to the “social work”. I’m merely the facilitator.
They had their first outing yesterday, to the nursing home Luna and I visit. Lots of people very happy to hold or pet a puppy. And Luna was glad to be the center of attention and something other than mom for an hour.
There was a reporter and photographer there to do a piece on Delta Dogs. I’ll scan and post the photos from the newspaper when the spread runs (see above).
I had pre-arranged for three other Delta members to puppy wrangle, but I needn’t have bothered since the young women who work there as nurse’s aids each snagged one to carry around to the individual residents.
We were gone about three hours total, and the pups actually handled the whole thing very well. I had them in a big box on the floor of the back seat of the car, with Luna perched (sprawled actually) on the back seat above them. There was a bit of fussing on the way down, but not too much. If I needed to, I could put a hand in the box and quiet them down.
What a lucky old man. 🙂
And Giddy, Sniff, and Bebo say “Wait for us. We want to go too”.

It looks like you should harness them and let them pull you into town. You could load their packs with library books. Think green, Andi…think green!
The snow’s actually all gone but now it’s just gray and brown. The green is a long, long, long way away. 🙁
It always makes me smile to see your “pack” in the woods.
It makes them smile, too. It also makes them obnoxious. As soon as it gets light, every time I get up Giddy and Bebo — Sniff who pays attention to the fine details doesn’t bother to get excited until I put my boots on — follow me from place to place to see if I’m ready to go and if I go upstairs, they go nutso. It’s funny dog psychology given that they can go play in the woods any time they want.
Those pups are delicious and the look on old Jack’s face is priceless. Love the picture up top, too.
