Good morning CabinGirl! Not so good here, I’m afraid, with chest hack & sore throat. I hate unexpected days off, since no one does my stuff when I’m gone and I’m just that much more behind when I return! Gripe, gripe, gripe! Hope your day is much better;-)
It sounds like you and I are feeling pretty much the same (I have the stuffy nose instead of the hacking cough). I think it’s this miserable gray damp cold weather that just won’t seem to go away this year. It feels like November all over again, only this time with daffodils.
Something similar has been going around down here, and of course I caught it. It’s taken the better part of two weeks to get (almost) rid of the niggling cough. I hope you recover quicker.
I work with a bunch of accountants who, thankfully, take grammar very seriously. It’s fun to work with people who actually care about correct usage of the language.
To that end, I send out weekly style tips, pointing out things in our corporate style guide where the company has taken a position, one way or another.
I usually send them on Wednesay, and being that this Wednesday was April Fool’s Day, I couldn’t resist. So I sent these tips. The first one suckered them in. The rest pissed them off until they got to the end. 😉
New rules!
The global style guide team wishes you to follow these new rules for grammar:
Use two spaces after each period.
Spell nonrecurring with an extra hyphen. In fact, hyphenate any word Microsoft Word doesn’t recognize, to be safe.
Documents have become sentient. Please “inquire of” documents frequently.
Use as many words as possible to convey meaning. Our reports are perceived as thin, and it is increasingly hard to justify their expense without more words in them. For example, why say “use” when you can take up more space with “utilize”? Why write simply “and” when you can fill the page with “as well as”?
Use as little punctuation as possible now that we are using more words as this makes for quicker reading don’t you agree I knew you would.
In closing and in accordance with these new rules I would like to proffer to you felicitations upon the event of this first day of the month, a day named for a favorite archetype in Shakespeare’s literary renderings.
Or, more simply, Happy April Fools Day! (And please do not follow these rules!)
Thanks. That was my personal favorite. I can’t tell you how many times I read our team’s goal is “to inquire of the nature of the balance sheets” or some such. 😉
The weather here has been a rollercoaster — warm and sunny, the cold and wet, then warm and wet, the warm and sunny, then …. well you get it. The forecast has a chance of snow on Monday and a hard freeze Monday night. Yuck and double yuck.
This year the weather seems to be changing every 6 hours, rather than on a day-to-day basis, doesn’t it?
I already have my emails out for work, and I think I have the rest of the day to enjoy the, ahem, rain. I bet I can make some serious progress on housecleaning and sleeves for CBtE’s sweater…
I’m so sorry to hear this. The past couple of weeks have been absolutely perfect. I go outside and just smile and generally appreciate being alive. Either that or the progesterone is working…. :0)
Miss Bebo is one of the most elegant dogs I’ve ever seen. Dogs are the gods of frolic, and you gotta keep moving to do that. It’s good to see her take a moment’s rest.
See she is a perpetual motion machine and she has to sleep like that because that way she’ll have to move after a few minutes (I’ve never seen her hold that position for longer than 5-10 minutes).
This little pit/boxer/something-or-other mix was found starving and having already had a litter of pups at less than a year old….and after several weeks at the shelter was due to be put down. People from Craigslist got together and someone rescued her then asked for someone else to adopt her….the Nature Boy did. She’s just the calmest, sweetest thing. She puts her arms around your neck and hugs you and just lets you love on her.
The shelter was calling her Emma so he kept that. We’ve had at least 3 cats named Emma over the years. I don’t have a creative naming streak like Andi does, so when I’d get a tabby with that “M” on its head, I just named her Emma. :0)
god, I love opening day in Cleveland. They’re still in first place. And even though it’s invariably nasty and/or snowing out, the hope of spring is there.
Here are the earlier comments from the old cafe.

feel better, ID.
Spring is on the way.
Thanks. I’m going back to bed to try to sleep it off.

I have similar symptoms. I hope that yours are better soon. This morning I coughed and have never had as much pain in head. Ugh.
Yuck. I hope you feel better, b2.

In the mean time, get some rest.
This is interesting.
I had to share this – had too much fun with it!

Very funny. I particularly like the rules for sentient documents. 🙂

Too bad we haven’t got any at our house to offer.

LOL Andi … Bebo has so much character in photos; I can’t imagine what it’s like in RL. 🙂
well they say there’s no such thing as a perpetual motion machine … but they would be wrong. 🙂
Hey, laid back and relaxed wins out over style and grace at our house too…. 🙂
Style and grace have been largely absent throughout my life. Klutzy and tactless OTOH …
Hey, we can’t all be Grace Kelly.
We are having yet another wet and miserable day here. We get a few hours of warm sun, only to pay for it later.

Yeah, maybe things are a littletoo relaxed here.

Morning All.
Come on over to the flog and tell us a story … 🙂
Good morning all! I’m spending another day at home with the crud. Hope all you other sickos are feeling better today.
I hope you have a nice restful day. I always think sleeping it off is the best cure for a nasty cold.
I have the worst allergies this week…watery eyes and stuffy nose.
Hope you’re over that soon! My brother had a horrible time with allergies as a child. I don’t seem to be bothered much in that area.
Wait! You’re not working! ::hurries off to write extreme umbrage letter to the editor about lazy politicians:: 😉
Well, you know what slackers we politicians are! If I can’t have my own intern to peel my grapes, at least I want some time off!
Well I hope you are feeling better — I wouldn’t want you getting germs all over our fine citizens. 😉
We’re both still hacking, but at least there’s no fever now.
Fell better ID. I came to work, still in denial about my symptoms.
Hey, you’re making the rest of us look bad! Take a couple days off and rest!

Me, I think you’re full of phooey. 😉

Congratulations SN. I can see the little darling is right on track for the happy dog’s life she deserves. Many photos will be welcomed. Have fun –
I wanted to trade dogs with him when he brought her over. Hope was such a jealous, aggressive fool around her. :/
Oh what a cutie. More photo opportunities! What’s her name?
The shelter was calling her Emma so he kept that. We’ve had at least 3 cats named Emma over the years. I don’t have a creative naming streak like Andi does, so when I’d get a tabby with that “M” on its head, I just named her Emma. :0)
She looks like a real sweetie! Good for Nature Boy!
Oh so cute! And she looks a little like Bebo. You need to bring her up to our place so the two of them can meet and become BFF. 🙂
I love the top picture — that demanding look that says “You need to love me”.
Rain, snow, below freezing temps. I want my Spring and I want it now!
We’ve been gorgeous, but we might get a frost Monday night…
Supposed to snow for opening day tomorrow.
I used to always go to opening day but now that it’s so early (and I’m so old) my bones don’t like it. So I stopped going. 🙁

A Nature Boy with a cousin whom we haven’t seen since, but it’s fun to tag them on Facebook now that they’re adults:
The Nature Girl during her Cindy Loo Who phase:
Hope sat in this chair yesterday and it was just ripe for a cheesy portrait:
That is an adorable picture of Ryan. Great smile.
And my goodness, Hopeful looks so serious, like she’s trying out for the lead part in the dog’s version of the Life of Churchill.
If Churchill was goofy and clumsy and had big ears.
That pic of Ryan is one of my faves.
Wait, he didn’t?
Well my goofs are all insisting we go walk before the front gets here and turns the weather to shit. See ya later.
Must be time to go with the flow.

Beautiful shot! Not so the weather forecast for flurries later today:(
Perfect for a new cafe…
