Pure fascist talk: the black man used to know his place. Unfortunately, the primary battle with Bill Hillary Clinton did a lot of damage with racist exploits. Sarah Palin and Alaskan indelpendence … when will the next OK bomber strike? Secession and civil war, brother against brother, wasn’t that about abolition?
the “leadership” could put an end to this by changing the tone and subject of discussion, but they’re desperate to hold onto power – or more accurately, deluding themselves that they can hold on without a major shift in direction, inclusiveness, etc. I’m less worried about the ppl in this video – feel sorry that they’re being led down this path instead into the 21st century – than the corporate interests and the fruit of some of Cheney’s endeavors.

Shuffling off the mortal coil. Not with a whimper but a Depends filling bang.
It sure doesn’t jibe with the bullshit being spewed by the Village. This isn’t the vanguard of a reactionary election wave. The GOP is gonna get spanked in the mid-terms and looking at Götterdämmerung in 2012.
Jeebus. Those people are insane and he just stands there taking their abuse. So sad… and even more than that, it’s frightening. This is in Delaware? So, all the nuts aren’t just down South? <shudder> I am now quite depressed and distressed…
During the spring and summer months my father would gather us into the station wagon and we would drive two hours to Rising Sun, Md. There, we were greeted by large banners that read, “Welcome Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.”
We gathered with hundreds of others in a large cow pasture. My siblings and I saw these meetings as an opportunity to feast on 5-cent cupcakes washed down by weak, sweet Kool-Aid. My parents chatted with other adults while we children chased each other through the pasture. That night, we listened to speakers who told us how they had burned the houses of interracial married couples. Large cheers arose from the crowd. Later, my brother, three sisters and I watched as white-hooded Klansman lit a cross on fire. They rode on horseback, circling around and around the cross while it burned. The night smelled of fresh grass, cow manure and smoke.
As our car pulled out of the field, a Klansman handed pamphlets through the window. By flashlight, I read the contents. There were pictures of apes and African Americans. “Negroes,” the pamphlet explained, had evolved from apes. Whites had been created by God.
the 8 years we’ve just been through is most comparable imo to the Civil War; Reconstruction, however, set in motion many serious problems that are with us still today. Because of that analogy I’m pretty patient about pressuring the Obama admin on certain things – their first task is defuse all the land mines left by bush/cheney. Lincoln did not live to carry out Reconstruction properly, and I’m glad Obama is proceeding with caution, obviously planning to live to tell the tale. Also think that healthcare is important for Obama to establish widespread support among the populace (including the crazies at the Mike Castle meeting) who will be surprised to find a gov program that benefits them.
I know that I am a dinosaur but what the hell. since I am a ‘dial upper” and as such, I can’t get videos, does anyone know whether there is a transcript of the Castle show?
Members of Congress questions on health care on visits home, but that’s not the only thing on constituents’ minds. Check out this extraordinary video of Republican Congressman Mike Castle’s recent town meeting in Delaware. The woman you’re about to see is waving her own birth certificate and demanding proof that President Obama is himself an American citizen.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I want to go back to January 20, and I want to know why are you people ignoring his birth certificate.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He is not an American citizen. He is a citizen of Kenya. I am an American. My father fought in World War II with the greatest generation in the Pacific Theater for this country. And I don’t want this flag to be changed. I want my country back.
REP. MIKE CASTLE (R), DELAWARE: If you’re referring to the president there, he is a citizen of the United States.
(CROSSTALK)
CASTLE: He is a citizen of the United States.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ROBERTS: The crowd’s reaction just unbelievable. That clip has been viewed more than 465,000 times on YouTube.
A troubling story out of Boston tonight. Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, one of the nation’s preeminent African-American scholars, arrested in his own home.
i’ll tell you, in all my years in law enforcement, a black man always needed more identification then anyone else. i never thought it would extend to the POTUS!
That’s the thesis of the First Readers of NBC News, after viewing this astonishing clip from a town hall meeting that Rep. Mike Castle held in Delaware for his constituents. What’s most notable, to me, at least, is not how scared Castle looked or how passionately the woman argued for Barack Obama’s foreign birth. It was the reaction of the audience, a good portion of which erupted into cheers and youbetchas.
… The birther movement may be premised on a fictional belief, but it is savvy: birthers now wear the term “birther” as badge of honor, as if they were a persecuted minority. The most prominent birthers are Alan Keyes, Orly Tait, Phil Berg a Democrat and Michael Reagan.
i put off watchign this and now I’m kicking myself.
that has to be one of the funniest things I’ve seen all week. just… oh I’m having trouble choosing the right words… a side-splitting work of pure art.
I’d retire, too.

Hoe dare she quote Howard Dean’s line! I want my country back too. I want it back from crazy assholes like you, Lady!
For the first time in many years I actually feel sorry for a Republican office holder. I know all too well what it feels like to work for idiots.
Castle is one of the few remaining Republicans who I respect. I can’t see how he can go on, however, dealing with the fringe that is the Delaware GOP.
Yeah, I kind of feel sorry for the guy too. But the GOP has created this monster from within, and now they have to live with it.

Thanks, I really needed that mental image of John Boehner’s bare orange flesh in a loincloth and a horned helmet battling the Midgard Serpent.

DE had a very active Klan about 10 years ago, don’t know about the present though. Feel sorry for Mike Castle.
