It appears we won’t have Evan to kick around anymore.
Senator Evan Bayh, the Indiana Democrat, has decided not to run for a third term this year.
Mr. Bayh will announce his decision at a press conference at 2 p.m., an aide confirmed on Monday. The decision was closely held by Mr. Bayh, a party official in Indiana said, and came as a surprise to Democrats in his state who had already started working on his campaign.
I wonder who we’ll wind up with as a replacement? There’s certainly no shortage of wing-nut doofesses who would be more than happy to keep a senate seat warm for a few terms.
Behind the scenes there are whisperings of a possible move by IN-8 Congressman Brad Ellsworth to step up.
What an ass!
Filing deadline is coming Friday.
Is the local machinery revved up to get the required number of signatures for each district?
No, time is too short for anyone else to gather enough signatures to make the primary except maybe longshot progressive, Tamyra d’Ippolito. The state committee elders will slate a candidate, just as they arrange their favorites for governor, secretary of state, etc. every election. And people think Chicago politics are ugly!
