What’s happening with independent voters? They’re moving away from the Democrats.
“This is not a liberal country,” said Republican strategist John Feehery, “but it is now being governed by liberals in a liberal way, so it was almost a certainty that this reaction would take place.”
Do you agree with any part of that quote?
Yes, this is not a liberal country. I wish it was, but it’s not. The rest is pure garbage.
Proof? Granted it might be a little conservative on social issues, but an economic message from the left would win over a lot of the country, if someone cared to sell it and go about getting it enacted.
Obama’s failing is in not having the courage to go all the way. His compromising and half-stepping have lost the support of the populace.
Property is Theft!
Just compare the USA with Canada or any European country. America is the most conservative. The French are burning cars and rioting over moving the retirement age to 62, Americans listen to proposals to raise it to 70 with sullen resignation. Just calling anything “Socialist” is the kiss of death. And “Union” is a dirty word to most, including those who need a union the most.
Also, independents were promised change, that is to say, a change in their lives. They haven’t seen it. They see banks bailed out, banker bonuses restored, road contracts everywhere, but no jobs and now unemployment benefits stopped. It doesn’t take much to conclude that working people come last with Congress and the Administration. Republicans are their own worst enemies. Independents would be going back to them in big numbers if their candidates weren’t obviously crazy.
.
Saving the banks so they can continue their hardship for home owners, new foreclosures and in the end evict the family in harm to the neighbor next door and the entire community. No way to earn respect and votes in the mid-terms. Democrats are fighting a losing strategy.
I saw a new documentary where action groups blame Wells Fargo, etc for economic distress to entire communities.
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — An outraged sheriff in Illinois who refuses to evict “innocent” renters from foreclosed homes criticized mortgage companies and said the law should protect victims of the mortgage meltdown.
Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said earlier he is suspending foreclosure evictions in Cook County, which includes the city of Chicago.
The county had been on track to reach a record number of evictions, many because of mortgage foreclosures.
Many good tenants are suffering because building owners have fallen behind on their mortgage payments, he said Thursday on CNN’s “American Morning.”
“These poor people are seeing everything they own put out on the street. … They’ve paid their bills, paid them on time. Here we are with a battering ram at the front door going to throw them out. It’s gotten insane,” he said.
Mortgage companies are supposed to identify a building’s occupants before asking for an eviction, but sheriff’s deputies routinely find that the mortgage companies have not done so, Dart said.
“This is an example where the banking industry has not done any of the work they should do. It’s a piece of paper to them,” Dart said.

"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
John Feehery is a propagandist, not an analyst. And all of the other opinions on why this is happening are non sequiturs by other Republican analysts.
The dirty little secret. A lot of those “independents” were Republicans, who are now coming home to the party. And it says nothing at all about enthusiasm or turnout.
It’s just another way of slipping the “governed by liberals in a liberal way” message into the Washington Post.
From top to bottom, from Balz’s byline to the end of the article, it’s just worthless bullshit.
Why do you bother to pay attention to this. No one outside of the Beltway or Wall Street cares what the Washington Post says.
Exactly. You beat me, almost word-for-word, to the “bullshit from top to bottom” part. The blatant parroting of GOP propaganda lines is as shameful and obvious as any slease “journalism” I’ve seen anywhere. Not even indies are so ill-informed or so stupid that they’re going to think a New Age of Bush is the answer, no matter how much they might hate how things are going.
The only part I would agree with is “it was almost a certainty that this reaction would take place.” After the shift towards Democrats in the last election due to the unpopularity of Bush and the popularity of Obama, it was very likely we’d see a shift back towards the mean in the midterms. The horrific economy made this almost a certainty, unless Democrats could bring about an economic miracle.
Let’s face it: “independent” is the polite way of saying “low-information, easily swayed by propaganda”. Such voters rely on “feelings” when they have to form opinions, and the feeling of the economy ain’t good right now. The Dems haven’t managed to get credit for what they’ve accomplished. I think Obama has to take part of the blame for resisting putting out some big, graspable plans of the moonlanding kind. He’s achieved big things, but it’s legislation, not something you can watch unfolding on the TV.
At the national level the Dems seem ineffective a lot of the time. But if you watch individual candidates talking to their own constituents, a surprising lot of them kick ass (including Reid, I gotta say). The trouble with crap like this article is that they assume that the campaigns don’t matter, that the “analysts” get to set the milestones the Dems have to pass like they’re the referees who get to declare the winner, and that the current situation is so stable that it can be extrapolated. Gotta agree with Tarheel above: why bother with trash like this? There are all kinds of people out there saying actual interesting things; none of them are political consultants or “analysts”.
Those ’08 ‘independents’ who were not actually Republicans running away from Bush, have gotten their civics tickets punched, and garnered some sort of naches in their own minds for having voted for the colored fella.
They did their good deed. They’re done. They’ll tell you in no uncertain terms that it’s now time leave them alone and get off their backs.
They are simply returning to their status quo ante, which includes believing all the old, comfortable stories about the lazy unemployed, their frightening tax burden, creeping socialism, etc. — which is why the GOP’s line of old, reliable, patter is selling so well right now.
just a few days ago, weren’t you saying we’re a conservative country?
although we’re not being governed by liberals. that’s that idiotic old equivalence that democrat = liberal.
Republican talking point reinforced by the MSM. When’s the last time you heard anybody on TV say “Democratic Party” instead of “Democrat Party”? I even heard someone on NPR (WBEZ) who was supposed to be a “Democratic spokeswoman” say “Democrat Party”. It’s easy to spot. It grates on the ear.
No, I don’t think I said that. I think I said that our Congress is structurally much more conservative than the country as a whole.
It’s gaining speed because information services are becoming more and more desperate for attention.
For dollars from sponsors.
So the anti-whatever drumbeat starts earlier and earlier.
Groucho knew.
Groucho Marx-Whatever It Is, I’m Against It”
Like dat, only at warp speed.
Warped speed, actually.
Pushing up against the lightspeed barrier now.
The lightspeed barrier. That’s when stuff blows up real good.
Watch.
Pretty soon (Already, maybe?) no one…on any side of a question…is going to be able to remain in power long enough to do some real work.
“Kick the bastards out!!!”
Watch.
Palin…or whichever asshole gets kicked in as a result…will have even less time to fulfill an agenda than has Obama.
And the news jes’ keeps on a’comin”!!!
Turn it the fuck off.
That is the only thing you can do to stop it.
Any and all complaints simply become fodder for the ever more rapid crescendo of sensationalism.
It is probably too late to stop the process, but at least when we go down if you have stepped away from the media with your brains in the air you will be able to take the dive without guilt.
Wake the fuck up.
Station WTFU, signing off yet again.
Later (I do keep trying)……

B S.!!!
Ain’t no “independent voters”, other the the 1% or so who are aware of the absolutely falsity of “the news” on every level of this culture. And they…we…probably do not vote anyway.
The Lying State of America.
Long may it vacillate.

Gotta love these so-called independent voters. Far right, nut-jobs left the Republican party in droves after the Bush fiasco and the November 2008 election. They now call themselves independents rather than face the embarrassment of being labelled a Bush Republican.
Instead of understanding this classic deception the MSM, dumbly shake its collective heads in agreement and says that they are independents.
The reality is that these rightwinger Republican defectors would never have voted independently or for a Democrat in a million years.
Dissatisfaction with the Democratic party is driven by failing to stand up to Republican terror tactics and the GOP bargaining in bad faith. Liberal Democrats are now looking for a home, but it sure as hell ain’t the Republican party.
