Arn’t they though. I’ll have to get up to the coast of South Australia to see them sometime.
No, dangnabbit! I suspect he’s already left for South Australia (where he’s interviewing for a job), but I’m pretty sure his grandmother in Tassie is keeping his birds for him (he’s about 18 and one of those lanky quiet types and mad keen about restoring some of the historical poultry breeds). I gave him a bunch of my pied Muscovy drakes awhile back and he was able to show them quite well, and he gave me one in return to keep my girls laying, so we’ve bonded over our mutual poultry hobbies. If he ever responds to his email I’m sure we’ll work something out. I know he just purchased a lot of birds at the recent Hobart show, so I’ve offered to keep them here for him if his Grandmother is full-up.
That’s a heck of a beautiful image of your beautiful boy, CG.
Hope you’re all enjoying this stellar weather .. before those mean winter winds come a-howlin’ our way.
Heyho howdy to all at the pond. I didn’t head to the Town Hall today to try out our brand new electronic voting machines; I helped my housemate pick out a wheelchair.
Nope, we didn’t get a spiffy titanium racing chair. Turns out that Medicare covers those only after an extensive review of the client’s circumstances, including an agency visit to the client’s home, to see if a titanium racing chair is suitable for the circumstances. It takes months. We did look at them, however & determined that it wouldn’t even be practical to have one, as they’re not easily portable (unless you’re Gigantor) & we need portability.
So we got a regular old fashioned type that my housemate can actually operate manually & one that I can schlep around if necessary.
I see on the big weather map that there very well may be so ugly weather headed your way — so don’t forget to do your sexy rain-dance for the weather gods today.
I’ve an incredible list of chores to do here before the chill sets in, so — see ya later!
We’ve got a 60% percent chance of rain — I would be glad to a sexy rain-dance to get that up to 100% but I’m more afraid that if I did, I’d scare it off.
Tasmania gets a cloud line-up we call the ‘Marching Soldiers’. It’s rows and rows of clouds and troughs. Which means yesterday day and today have been a series of rain and snow followed by sun followed by rain and snow, repeat. Unfortunately the snow doesn’t stick because of the wet ground.
Current temp is 38F at an hour before noon. And the wind and the cloud-cover tells me that next soldier is on its way.
Yep, the wood stove is cranked up full. Hector lies between it and the wall behind it and attempts get as hot as possible, without actually bursting in to flames. The hotter he gets the flatter he gets – we call the end stage “puddlebunny”.
We’ve gotten quite a few apples lately from a neighbor with an orchard. They’re very abundant this year. Even the little ‘wild’ ones on the trees here at the farm are proving too much for the deer to handle ..
We’ve also gotten lots of beautiful produce from home gardens this year. Food crops have generally been very successful IF they weren’t wiped out by the early summer frost. We really can’t use all we’ve gotten, so we pass it on.
Speaking of frost, we’ll probably see freezing temperatures on Monday night. Too soon, too soon.
thanks for the great idea – alas the wine will have to wait (lest something unforeseen happen, like I decide all this stress isn’t worth it, who needs to work anyway?) but it’s something to look forward to. soothing cupcake, a more immediate treat.
We’re having the Annual Democrat Womens’ Club yard sale at our place today to coincide with the annual community picnic & outhouse races. Its a beautiful day here, so there will be a crowd.
Its probably the biggest charity event of the year here. The racers are gravity powered, much like a soap-box derby car, only the vehicles are constructed to resemble the time-honored outdoor privy (usually with some embellishment). A little rural whimsy in a good cause;-)
Nah, that’s something I’m notoriously lousy at, so I stay away from it. More fun to watch the people anyway. I’ve been noticing of late that a rather significant portion of the weekend crowd has either a cell phone or Bluetooth clamped to an ear. They’re babbling away, probably missing much of that which they came to experience. I’ve managed to elude that part of the tech revolution so far.
Based on that segment, I’d say that way more cheeriness that most people would want to watch early in the morning … so missing it doesn’t seem like a bad thing at all. 🙂
Plus she’s been on a local NY news show, the BBC, PBS’s Nightly Business Report and in a bunch of newspaper stories. So it is all great for her but I do also find it is rather weird.
Time for a new cafe…how is everyone today?
As you can see, Finn is growing by leaps and bounds! I’m off for a day at the client shortly…
Beautiful cool day here. Have a good one, CG!
He can’t be growing any cuter though — he was already too cute for words or my cute meter. 🙂
Agree!!! Cuteness personified!!!
Aw, thanks Andi and Errol. 🙂
I can finally see that photo! Finn is a sweetie.
Drizzle alternating with snow at our elevation.
I’m watching the rain clouds head this way. Speaking of clouds, here’s a really cool cloud that happens in Australia.
Those are wild clouds.
Chicken yet?

Just rain so far.
That cloud is amazing. I can see why ppl travel from all over to the world to see them. Do they happen every year? putting on my todo list right now!
Yep, they’re yearly.
Woke up to snow flurries and temps just above freezing.
Must see them! on my todo list!!!
That’s a heck of a beautiful image of your beautiful boy, CG.

Hope to see y’all again soon!
Howdy WW. Glad you’re enjoying some beautiful weather. Did your housemate get a spiffy titanium racing chair? 😉
I really would like to have some ugly weather — like rain and then some rain with some rain in between.
Good to see you, Andi!

Woohoo!
Brrrr! Sounds like a good time to cuddle up by the wood stove (if you have one).
Yep, the wood stove is cranked up full. Hector lies between it and the wall behind it and attempts get as hot as possible, without actually bursting in to flames. The hotter he gets the flatter he gets – we call the end stage “puddlebunny”.
‘Puddlebunny’! Love it!
I reckon he might be flattening out because he’s trying to cool off!
🙂
I am very, very jealous of your bad weather.
We like bad weather, but then Tasmanians are easy to entertain.
“Hey everybody, let’s all stand around and see how wet we can get!”
This sounds marvelous to me, really. I like shifting light & lots of action in my weather.
Here in the New York Appalachians we’re experiencing more of a ‘Morphing Salad’ — not much substance, lotsa noise.
“Morphing salad” 😀
We rarely get sturm und drang. But yes, the light is cool.
amazing – and the 17 m giant wave in the link -!!!!!
Well, I s’pose you could have Jim do it ..
😀
Apparently just the thought of me doing was enough … no rain. 🙁
O noze! I’m sorry.
We’re finally getting rain here. This summer’s been the inverse of last year — dry, dry, dry, spritz! Instead of spritz, spritz, spritz, dry.
I don’t know how people live in the desert. I makes me crazy to not have any rain.
I hope you get lots of lovely rain.
We did get some, plus a wee bit of wind spinning off of those NYC tornadoes.
Hope you get some precipitation too, before too long.
It’s really starting to feel like Autumn here: reddened apples, falling leaves, morning temperatures in the high 30s (gasp!).
Oh fall and apples — nothing better than some New York Cortland apples. Sigh.

Oh gorgeous, as usual. Tomorrow is my Friday – I’m taking a long weekend to get ready to celebrate a certain birthday round these parts…
I really think I should go back to my 4-day week routine again. So much more fun!
So all you need is to find a birthday to celebrate every week and then you’ll have an excuse for a 4-day week. 🙂
Wonderful humps as usual, Andi. I like the depth in this one — so typical for humpish land masses this time of year, with the low sun.
C-c-cool here! Time to pull the a/c from the window.
Raining here! And I am so glad it’s the end of my week after a long day of traveling 2.5 hours each way on a client visit.
Annoying Imogen by correcting the ‘facts’ of the annoyingly factual characters on television.
We finally got a decent amount of rainbut the damage is already done. My vegetables look like crap.
We got some nice rain, but it cleared up this morning in time for a nice sunny vacation day. yippee!
going to enjoy that vicariously. major stress here! help! help!!!
Time for a cupcake and a nice soothing glass of wine?
thanks for the great idea – alas the wine will have to wait (lest something unforeseen happen, like I decide all this stress isn’t worth it, who needs to work anyway?) but it’s something to look forward to. soothing cupcake, a more immediate treat.
Deciding who needs to work anyway sounds like a great way to reduce stress (at least until you can hit the right answer to who needs money anyway?).
Yes, that who needs money anyway? part does seem to be the hitch in my plans.
Lottery tickets are the only possible solution we’ve been able to come up with.
Or: you could get by on your good looks, like I do.
:-B
well so far both of those haven’t panned out for me, though you never know!!!
That works for sexy thangs like you — my good looks and $1 will get me … one lottery ticket.
I could totally go for a cupcake. However, we’ll be having a 2-layer version of this cake today.
Ooooooh! I shouldn’t have looked before brunch. Now I’m really hungry!
The cake part is baked; the white chocolate filling and frosting will have to wait till later…
wow! cake looks delicious! looking forward to a report on its deliciousness.
OMG, the density of the chocolate flavor was almost too much, but delicious. We’ll need ice cream with the next slice…
Everything to be said for chocolate that is so dense it must be helped out by some ice cream!!!!! and for helpful ice cream!!!!
We’re having the Annual Democrat Womens’ Club yard sale at our place today to coincide with the annual community picnic & outhouse races. Its a beautiful day here, so there will be a crowd.
what is an outhouse race? outhouses racing (how are they propelled)? racing to the outhouse?
Its probably the biggest charity event of the year here. The racers are gravity powered, much like a soap-box derby car, only the vehicles are constructed to resemble the time-honored outdoor privy (usually with some embellishment). A little rural whimsy in a good cause;-)
Sounds like great fun!! nice picture!
Thanks! They had a big turnout of race fans today. Hope they made lots of cash!
Did you have money on the winner? 🙂
Nah, that’s something I’m notoriously lousy at, so I stay away from it. More fun to watch the people anyway. I’ve been noticing of late that a rather significant portion of the weekend crowd has either a cell phone or Bluetooth clamped to an ear. A good move for a man about to leave office — don’t want to be constantly phoned for help from the new assessor. 🙂
OT. I have seen your niece’s ad probably 6 times just tonight. It’s on the Discovery science channel. She’s a star!
That she is — Thursday she was even on the Today show. 🙂
We’ve seen her ad a bunch too – even my mom looks for her. I’m sorry we missed the today show.
She put up a link on Facebook of her Today show appearance.
Based on that segment, I’d say that way more cheeriness that most people would want to watch early in the morning … so missing it doesn’t seem like a bad thing at all. 🙂
the ad and Today show, that’s great!
Plus she’s been on a local NY news show, the BBC, PBS’s Nightly Business Report and in a bunch of newspaper stories. So it is all great for her but I do also find it is rather weird.
Wow, that’s really cool.
I’ve left so many helpful notes, it’ll take the new person 4 years to read ’em.
Sounds like a good plan for a successful retirement.
Stop obsessing over things you’re never going to get.
