Short week for me this week – I have big plans for a trip to Baltimore with CBtE and Finny Friday.  I’m looking forward to a little break from the winter weather while we’re there – it’s supposed to be in the 50s!

And just for Errol: old cafe here

The birds are active, however, and I observed male cardinals (sadly, out of camera range) behaving decidedly territorial.

You must have gone farther north than me — I was up in Indy and the snow was mostly gone. The ice on my mom’s sidewalk, however, was still awful.

The creeks had almost all thawed here yesterday — I was thinking it would be gone by this morning but the below freezing temps may have slowed things down a little bit.

I was near 86th & Ditch — the snow around there wasn’t much deeper than an inch but the ice was several inches thick. I wonder if it was because my mom’s street is rather closed in and so there wasn’t as much drifting going on.

    Good morning!
Back in NY for a long weekend. No rest for the wicked – curly got the following e-mail yesterday:

Subject: Friday 9am: NYC Cheesehead Rally to Support Wisconsin Workers!
    Friday February 18, 9:00 a.m.
    Cheesehead Rally NYC

Rally in solidarity with Wisconsin workers against union-busting Gov. Scott Walker, who promised to call out the National Guard against striking workers.

In Madison, 30,000 activists protested against Walker on Wednesday. Let’s show our support for workers in Wisconsin, New York, and across the USA!

We’ll gather on 6th Ave. (Ave of the Americas) at 9 a.m. at Time-Life (old CNN) between 50/51. We’ll march past NBC between 49/50. And we’ll end before 10 a.m.
at FOX on the corner of 48th and 6th.

Make your own signs. Wear Packers gear (or just green/yellow) and cheesehead hats (we’ll bring a few to share). Bring your smartphones and cameras to tell
    the world!

So, I’ll be heading out a bit later to join the protest.

            Bloomberg’s new priority:

Forget the budget. New York has another serious deficit — a shortage of sexy models, Mayor Bloomberg warned yesterday.

The situation is so dire that the Big Apple may lose its status as the fashion capital of the world, he said one day after the conclu sion of Fashion Week.

Bloomberg, who has an eye for vertically blessed women, said strict visa policies that keep models and photog raphers out of the United States may send the fashion industry fleeing.

Hey, you’ve got my weather hates down perfectly. 🙂

But you’re also right I do enjoy the prettiness of the ice once it’s gone (especially when it’s replaced with unusually warm temps we’re having now).

I have to thank you FM!

You managed through your weatherwizardry to give us 2 warm days last week, especially Friday. It was 11ºC!

Was able to get out and not even need mitts … 😀

          Hi Olivia,

Wonderful picture as always.  Amazing how you can get the bird on your fingers.

The weather is no big thing.  Although, since getting a little older, it’s hard to do that damn weather dance. 🙂

All ya had to do is ask.  In Olivia’s case it was easy.  During the weather dance I would chant warm weather, eh.  Had to add that “eh” to give it a Canadian slant.  With New York I’m not so sure though.  Do I chant warm weather, you talking to me!? 😉

Given how much rain we ended up getting, I’m absolutely thrilled it stayed above freezing. We still managed to lose power for over 4 hours though (one of only 2 in Brown County, lucky us).

    Morning Everyone,

We’ve had a cold front come through.  It’s only supposed to get up to 70F today and tonight down around 40F.  With all this jumping back and forth with the temperature how are you supposed to lay in a hammock with an umbrella drink.  Sheesh!

        Morning Errol,

If our temps could stay where they are all year I’d be more than happy.  Unfortunately, I’m already starting to dread a long hot summer.

Actually I think there’s one day in March that is good for being outside with a umbrella drink.  The rest of the time it’s just too hot and humid down here.

We’ve gone from near record lows one week to near record highs the next to mostly just above average temps this week (with the potential for severe weather ever present). Something to be said for southern living. Flowers are starting to bloom…that’s always nice.

Happy Humps, everyone! Just droppin’ in for a quick howdy-do (a break in the chores). It’s been an amazing month — latest was a 24 hr power out this weekend, with attendant water-line bust that made the dust bunnies float. Lots of folks here had the same problems.
High winds + low temps + power out = ice
Ice + water pressure = blooey!

Hope this late winter day’s treating y’all well. Thanks to Andi & Miss Olivia for amazing & wonderful images!

Don Durito on February 23, 2011 at 11:46 pm

This winter has been a doozie. Was reading about how all the heavy snowfall in North Dakota and Minnesota is setting the stage for an ugly spring flood season. Dealt with our own record snowfalls and near-record lows a couple weeks back – I don’t miss them. Now it’s back to possible severe thunderstorms. So it goes.

      • wilderness wench
wilderness wench on February 24, 2011 at 7:42 pm

We’ve got a regional flood watch in place for tomorrow. So it goes indeed.

AndiF on February 24, 2011 at 6:00 am

Damn, WW, that is really the pits. I hope it’s warmed up some so you can get things cleaned up. We’ve had a warm up here (with intermittent back to the cold) and some daffodil leaves popped up. Made me so want the green of spring so bad, I could have just sat down and spent the day staring at them.

      • wilderness wench
wilderness wench on February 24, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Oooh .. daffodils! Could it be true? Winter will end? Be still my heart!
It’ll be an eternity before we see ’em here — usually around mid-April.
Hope it stays warm enough for them to grow!

        • AndiF
AndiF on February 25, 2011 at 6:28 am

Well it’s only the leaves, no flowers yet but even those don’t normally show up here till about mid March so I hope this early arrival survives. We’ve got some snow today but the leaves didn’t show any damage from earlier freezes so I hope this won’t have any effect either.

‘In like a lion’ & all that.
We could see 3 – 5″ of snow up here. Wind + various wet stuff = outages possible. Time to collect firewood & pray to the weather gods.

I’m praying for your daffodils, Andi.

Just a little snow fell here yesterday, as it turns out. Kept our power, too.
I’m not sure if it’s because Winter started so early this year, or because I’m getting crotchety, but March can’t come soon enough for me.
