Chances are that Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) is going to be the Republican nominee to take over retiring Sen. Jon Kyl’s seat in Congress. I think we should make sure to file this away for future use:
[Maricopa County Sheriff Joe] Arpaio, 78, said U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Mesa, called him to ask for his endorsement in the Senate race.
Apparently, the racist sheriff refused to endorse Flake and is actually considering making his own run for Kyl’s seat. But no one should forget that Jeff Flake wanted the endorsement of one of the most infamous bigots and abusers of power in the country.

Only a congressperson named “Wacko” or “Loco” could have a better name.
This isn’t news. Unless Arpaio runs himself, every Republican candidate for Senate will seek his endorsement. Strenuously. He’s a long-standing, wildly popular (among Republican voters) elected official in the state’s major metropolitan area. (Over 60% of Arizona’s population is in Maricopa County.)
It’ll be a crowded field, and any candidate has to get through the primary first. Arpaio can help them do that. After the primary, his name disappears from most of the campaign lit.
