I hope our writing here at Booman Tribune keeps at least some of you sane. I know writing this stuff is kind of essential for my own sanity. It’s either write or turn everything off, cancel all my subscriptions, and hole-up in a cabin far deeper in the woods. A long, long time ago I was able to solace myself by just reading the progressive blogosphere. I needed to know there were other people out there who thought the world had gone just as insane as I thought it had. But then I noticed that I thought a good part of the blogopshere was off its damn rocker, too. That’s when I decided I needed my own blog. I think we offer a different view of progressivism, politics, and analysis than you will readily find elsewhere. Lately, you’ve seen a different take on Libya, the budget negotiations, and the importance of addressing our national debt. And I’d like to keep doing it. I try to limit my requests for donations to no more than once a month. It’s been about six weeks since I asked for your support.
One of the things I am hoping to do in the next month is upgrade my server which you probably have noticed is not working as well as it used to. I think I can actually upgrade my processing power and memory and actually lower my bill at the same time, but I need to hire a programmer to transfer everything over, and it takes quite a few man-hours to get it done. So, anything you donate this month will go first to making this place work the way it used to, with faster loading pages.
I really do appreciate the support of our readers. We couldn’t do this without you.
I’m happy to support your blog. I come here for useful information and reality-based commentary, sans the b.s. found most everywhere else.
Thank you.
Here’s some food for thought:
I’m sending a few bucks. Sometimes it seems like all your commenters are against your views and you still stay respectful. Ya got balls.
I don’t know how BooMan sees it, but I’d say for the most part everyone is respectful to one another, period, regardless of our disagreements with him or each other.
I can tell you something else: aside from BooMan’s analysis, which I always respect even when I disagree, I come here specifically for the community. It’s diverse, and the comments are thoroughly more thoughtful than what seems to be “group-think” that you see elsewhere.
Every time I comment at FDL, even when I agree with the author, I feel trapped. It’s almost like Ron Paul’s minions; “You can’t ever think for yourself, can you? SHEEPLE!!!”
The least we can do. Keep blogging!
Thanks. I gotta say, I get donations from the coolest cross-section of America (and some people abroad and in Canada). It’s fun thinking about all the different places people are reading this blog.
You know, there’s the kind of obvious places like Madison and Berkeley and Ann Arbor and Chapel Hill. But then there’s people in the backwoods of Montana or in condos down on the Gulf Coast of Florida or out in some small town in Oklahoma. There’s people who live just a few miles from where I grew up and people who live way up in Fargo or out in San Diego. There’s people in the Village and on the Upper East Side. I think my biggest contributor overall is from Chicago. I definitely get a lot more support from blue states than red, but its nice when something comes in from Alabama or Kansas. I picture some outnumbered soul who I hope is feeling a little less outnumbered through the magic of the internet.
In any case, thank you to ALL the contributors. It’s a good feeling to get so much support.
boo….i have contributed in the past. and i love the booman family, real and virtual. i admit i come here less and less and i think its because there isnt enough dissent when its very much warranted. sometimes a little too much cheerleading. i’m hoping to see more fire and calls to action. cheerleading when its warranted. criticism when its warranted and its warranted a lot.
is it that time again? thanks BooMan.
I’m going to be in South America for a couple more weeks, but once I get home and figure out where I stand financially I’ll throw some cash your way.
I’m also going to be looking into either writing my own blog software or modifying an existing framework so I can play with that on my server. Is your blog still scoop based? If nothing else I can familiarize myself with whatever you’re running, and maybe help you out with some pro bono work in the future.
