Lazy holiday post is right. I cannot seem to get out of bed. I’ve been trying to do laundry for the past two hours, and every time I get to the basement I see my cat on the futon and lie down next to her. I then fall asleep, wake up 30 minutes later, and try again. I’m back upstairs about to gather my clothes…
Sauté a sweet onion and about 1/2 to 3/4 pkg of bacon cut up- let it cool. Then mix a about 4 tbsp of vinegar (white or apple cider) with about 2 tbsp of sugar, salt ( 1/2 tsp?) and pepper and add in the bacon and onions. Throw in a couple of Lbs of potatoes that have been cooked/peeled/cut into slices and mix in. Keep at room temp and season with the vinegar, sugar, s/p as needed-
I did half a pound of thick sliced bacon with about 3.5 pounds (maybe 4?) of red potatoes and that was plenty. And the second batch seems to be even better than the first.
Tuesday & Wednesday with chiddos. Thursday to clean up; although I’ll probably have to ask for more time. Normal end of year stuff. I don’t think the retirement thing will hit until August. The back to school ads and sales will probably bring on cold sweats for a long time.
Got up at 5:30, went out at 6:00 to work in the garden. Came in at 8:300 because it was already getting to hot. Layed in bed and watched the umpteenth rerun of “Twelve O’Clock High”. Went and had a late lunch with my grandson who’s graduating next week. Went home and puttered with my new computer in the basement. Started a kernel rebuild and came upstairs to blog.
P.S.
I won’t say that Finn is cuter than David was at that age, but I will say it’s a tie!
Thought my monitor died today. I tried it on the laptop and it worked. The plug was prolly loose on the desktop. Was glad it was okay.
I’m figuring out the methods of epub.
The one I will be using is simpler than most of them. It’s interesting.
The Finn man is losing his baby look! Wow, what a big guy he’s getting to be! Sadly, all our grandkids are past the cuddly stage and into squirmy little people mode.
We had a leisurely day, beginning with Belgian Waffles at a local coffee shop and a stroll around town. Did some gardening after the sun dropped a bit this evening. Had a nice long nap during the hottest part of the afternoon.
After 3 years of an early life retirement to travel and live life, I’m returning to the workforce this week! Managed to get a job in the Detroit area that is pretty much perfect for me. I’ll be working with a good friend of mine, it’s a small company so the work environment is very friendly and low key, and I convinced them to let me take a few months off every other year (unpaid, of course) so I can get my traveling fix in. I’m psyched!
So BooMan, keep hitting us up for cash, I’ll be able to help you out a bit more regularly starting in a couple of months.
Here’s a photo of me at maybe the most mind blowingly beautiful place I’ve ever been to – Punta Union pass in Peru. Elevation – 4750 meters. Getting up there with my pack (not pictured) was…tough. But worth it!
So I have to ask – are you a Sagittarius? This is so quintessentially Sagittarian – building a job around travel. If that’s not your sign I’d bet real money it’s your ascendant. Curious now.
I hope you didn’t already place your real money bet! I’m a Libra. I don’t know much about astrology but I think that makes my ascendant sign Scorpio, right?
No – it depends entirely on the time of your birth. And I was going to note you were a Libra – it’s amazing what you can find on Google. I already have your birthdate. Give me the time and we’ll find out.
It was just nice to be able to chill today. Enjoyed some time with the kids. Always good. They have their last week of school this week, and things for me ramp up for me at my workplace. But for today, it was good to just be home.

He has hair now!
I wondered where mine was going.
Apparently, he also enjoys a good cup o’ joe.
They grow up so fast.
They grow up so fast.
Until they hit puberty. Then some sort of Whovian time warp occurs where their maturation slows down and yours increases. 🙂
Got a German potato salad recipe you’d care to share? I like pretty much all varieties, but Andi seems to only like the Teutonic variety.

ps, I used cider vinegar.
So, this is your last week, isn’t it? 🙂

Thought I had a problem with the motherboard, only one USB slot would work. Turned out that I wasn’t inserting the plug hard enough.
