Jim Newell ran out of steam. Eric Loomis didn’t even try. Who can blame them? When you’re dealing with Mark Judge, you just have to raise your game to an entirely other level. You can be cruising along, dishing out the snark at a professional pace, making offhand references to the Defenestrations of Prague that somehow work, on cruise-control, really…
…and then it hits you like crash course dummy. What you’re reading…what’re you mocking, is so stupid and racist and juvenile and historic in its foolishness, that it just defies snark. The original content actually is snark. It’s unintentional snark maybe, but what, really, is the difference? As Mr. Loomis remarked, “I mean there is no way that the greatest comedy writer in America could create a parody of the conservative worldview better than this.” Nor can the greatest snark-artist do better than the thing itself.
Judge’s column is so bad that it would be worthy of celebration, or perhaps a special display in the Newseum, if it weren’t for its poorly-diguised racism. Because the whole thing boils down to, “I saw a white baseball player stretch a single into a double because a lazy negro was loafing in right-field, and this is both a symbol and omen for everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen in this country.”
Heh. The current crop of comments on the article are shredding Mr. Judge into noisomely pathetic limp pieces, quite entertainingly.
I hope Mr. Judge was following today’s game between the Nationals and the deep-blue state New York Yankees. Harper struck out five times in seven trips and went hitless in a 14-inning loss to the Clippers.
As many of the commenters point out, Judge’s column is even a terrible baseball column, let alone its politics, racism, and epic metaphor fail.
The funny thing is, this is all over the Internets. It’s probably the most-read Daily Caller piece ever. (Happily, it’s also a perfect distillation of most of what they publish.) And given that their Rose Garden idiocy happened the same day, they probably think both Judge’s column and Munro’s bold speaking of truth to power are shining examples of conservative triumph that the whole country is rallying behind.
Wow, BooMan, you discovered rats in the sewer.
Meanwhile our political future is being decided by elections in two other countries.
Correct title: Worst opinion piece ever by a publication much read by the corporate media and little read by the public. I’m sure Fred Hiatt will rise to the challenge.
Wow. Bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. Judge swings, misses and strikes out. A calamity for conservatism. Or something.
i don’t think I have ever read the Daily Caller, and I don’t know anyone who does.
Dude, you are totally missing out.
That mean’s you missed Judge’s piece on how stopped feeling guilty for being a racist after some unknown person stole his bike.
Man, I live in Philly. I witness enough blatant racism on a daily basis, I don’t need to add to it.
OK, I read part of it, and had to stop.
“I knew that the odds were very high that a black person had taken my bike — maybe one of the kids that had been described.”
How did he know, if he didn’t see the person who took his bike?
He’s just assuming. I don’t have to pollute my mind with that garbage.
just consider that this is what Tucker Carlson puts out and it’s funded by that billionaire in Wyoming.
tucker gets the same response I gave to bazooka joe in the other thread: suck a bag of dicks.
i hate carlson. he’s such a smarmy, smug little fuckface. I’d love to see someone punch him in the nose.
Tht wold be awesome.
Runners advancing to second ahead of an outfielder who isn’t paying attention happens many times over the course of a baseball season.
Judge is a poseur who doesn’t know anything about baseball.
