If your house is literally under water, don’t worry, Mitt Romney is here to help.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney launched the final leg of his quest for the White House by visiting storm-battered Louisiana on Friday. He drove through a town that was flooded by Hurricane Isaac in part because it’s still outside the vast flooding protection system built with federal funds after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.
Romney and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) spent close to an hour meeting with first responders and local officials. Romney shook hands with National Guardsmen outside the U.S. Post Office and talked with a local resident, Jodie Chiarello, 42, who lost her home in Isaac’s flooding.
“He just told me to, um, there’s assistance out there,” Chiarello said of her conversation with Romney. “He said, go home and call 211.” That’s a public service number offered in many states.
How clueless do you have to be to tell someone to return to their inundated home to make a phone call? How about offering Jodie a cell phone? How about referring her to the governor for some advice? What a dipshit.
Go to your underwater home and use your phone to call up the services that I will do my best to get rid of if I’m elected President.
Brilliant.
What an asshole.
Message: I almost care.
Oh good Lord.
My NOLA fam were already hot when he made that tone-deaf “dry-land joke” before leading into his statement on Isaac, and the bit about whether the water came from “the ocean or the sky”, but this is just ridiculous.
Seriously, we must be getting PUNK’ED. There is just no way this guy can be this clueless. Mittens shoulda stayed his azz out of Louisiana and not play politics with Jindal. But no he goes and says dumb stuff to tell someone who’s phone is underwater to go home and use her cell phone to call “211” for assistance. This dude here??
Could be a plan to overload the circuits for incredulity, disgust, and contempt until they burn out and nobody notices anything the Reps say or do anymore. Kind of like when you stop noticing you’re swimming in shit and start calling it water.
You’d think that the Republican base would rather hear Romney tell these people to “call your insurance company and not the government about your problems.”
If people were paying attention, they’d now realize that there was no reason for Romney to be in Louisiana, that he has nothing to offer except his own photo ops, and that he understands nothing except whethers he’s getting more attention than the afflicted. He really is the worst person the Reps have nominated in a century — and that’s an incredibly low bar.
Jindal basically set him up just so that he (Jindal) could get more national press.
And Romney who’s supposed to be the “leader” just followed Jindal’s lead.
Azz.
Ha! The carrying of cellphones is for the trodden masses. Romney merely orders a lackey to do something as it is required.
Don’t forget this guy has spent four years honing his running for the POTUS skills. Did Ann Romney home school him? That would be a totally failing school if he were tested on social skills and how the real world works.
If ya’ll didn’t know, I’m from NOLA, now living in DFW since Katrina (yes I’d go back in a heart beat if I could) Things like this I really have no tolerance for by any politician. It feels like a belittling of me and my families real life experiences and tragedies that occured thanks to Katrina and other hurricanes.
I get that it was over 6 years ago, but in NOLA and beyond it is still like yesterday. So when pols or any other big name come to town and basically just pose for photo-ops and don’t even have the gall to at least fake the funk (so to speak) it really makes up madder.
Actually, a not quite so happy milestone today is that 7 years ago today, we lost my grandmother Beulah Evans to Katrina (she died of a heart attack brought on by the stress of evacuating from Katrina 2 days after the storm). We miss her and we love her.

(Yes, that’s me and my granny at my 1st college graduation in 2002, I have 2 B.S. degrees…don’t hate…lol)
Thanks for the picture. I’m sorry for your loss. My grandmother was also born in New Orleans, but that was at least one generation before your grandmother, probably two.
I really do miss NOLA. It’s weird. My body is in DFW, but my heart an soul is still there. I’ve been in DFW for 7 years and when I say anyting about “home”, I mean NOLA and not DFW.
As for my grandmother, she was awesome! It’s harder on my moms since it was her mother, but my mother was a teen mom, so I was raised as much my my grandmother as by my mom.
To add insult to injury I guess, since she died during Katrina, she was evacuated to Thibodaux, La. The burial plot that she’d been paying on all her life was no longer usualable (we later found that the cemetary where the plot was flooded anyway, so no burials were gonna happen there), so she was not buried in New Orleans. A church in Thibodaux, LA offered their church and their pastor for the funeral services and a local family, good samaritan, IDK offered the use of a vacant spot in their family plot for her to be laid to rest in. So when you visit she actually not buried “among family” so to speak. So we pay to have someone do upkeep. But yearly around this time someone in the family drives up to Thibodaux from NOLA and put some flowers and spruce up “her place”.
That’s nice. We can’t control where we wind up. My grandmother is buried in Queen of Heaven, Hillside Illinois, just outside Chicago where she had lived ever since her father brought the family North. But she insisted on being above ground, New Orleans style. She and my grandfather are in mausoleum crypts, above ground.
Romney’s mad because Bush ruined the looking out the window of air force 1 in concern option. Now he actually has to go and stand with commoners.
Why does everything this guy does sound like a story from The Onion?
When asked if he wanted to see the Commercial district that had been flooded, Rmoney instinctively replied, “I’m not interested in businesses that are under water.”
He’s just interested in businesses he can put underwater.
