Fresh off his latest week of posturing for the cameras, Sen. John McCain is almost certain to be using his personal lockers in the green rooms of the various Sunday morning chat shows tomorrow.
Now that the Friday testimony of former CIA Director Petraeus has definitively exploded right wing conspiracy theories about Benghazi – and specifically discredited McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham’s vicious personal attacks on UN Ambassador Susan Rice – do ya think McCain has the grace or decency to apologize to Rice?
Yeah, me neither.
Overall, Gen. Petraeus’ testimony ought to end wingnut braying over Benghazi once and for all. But you know it won’t. Not until somebody can invent another faux scandal to attack the president with instead.
Having lived in Arizona for 18 years straight (before I moved away a couple years ago) and well over 20 overall, I think this is the real McCain dropping his mask. The guy has always been cranky and unpleasant with very little personal integrity. The only part that’s different is he postures now for the Tea Party, to avoid getting primaried. Those wingnuts hate him and, no matter how far out on a limb he goes, no matter how much he embarrasses himself, they’ll never believe he’s a true winger. As old is he is, I’m not sure why he does’t retire. Can’t be much fun.
As old is he is, I’m not sure why he does’t retire.
Since it’s NFL Sunday, I’ll have a go at it from a football perspective.
I think he suffers from “Brett Favre Syndrome”. No matter how poorly McCain performs, his ego will just not allow him to hang it up. His ego also blinds him to how horribly incompetent he is. He still has a few fans, but they are only in media. They keep pumping him up with stories of his past glories; giving him the false impression he is still a “player”. He cherishes his imaginary relevance, and always thinks that if he just gives it a little more time, the fairy of good fortune will smile on him for one last monumental moment in the sun. He thinks he’s just one “hail mary” away from glory. But McCain could “never win the big game”. And that ghost will haunt him to the end.
Interesting take on McCain. Oh boy, 2008 seems a long way away! He’s so irrelevant
Add to this the fact, the US Navy handed four stars to both his father and grandfather, for their service. In his case the US Navy only only handed him the bird, even after he spent six years in a POW camp, for his service, the first star was never offered.
That one must haunt him some ways.
6 years as a POW does not move someone up the chain.
Navy pilots have a difficult time moving up the chain as well; they rarely command more than a dozen or two subordinates, before hitting a dead end. There’s just not as much opportunity for advancement.
Temperamentally, the Navy had McCain’s number: he can boss a small group, but not thousands. A Senator, not a President.
So why do the media keep coming back to McCain for commentary, when he’s so clearly an embittered cranky blowhard?
Don Henley has the answer (and dammit, it won’t generate the old embed code).
Try clicking “share” then “embed”, then you should see a “use old embed code” check box a little way below where the new embed code displays.
Someone ought to work “Keating 5” into Henley’s lyrics somewhere.
I did that share –> embed, but the only embed link produced was the type this blog won’t accept. The “use old embed code” choice wasn’t there at all. I’m wondering whether YouTube is phasing it out?
I went over to YouTube and the check box was there for me. Wonder if it has to be enabled somewhere in the user profile now?
I checked my account settings and found no way to get that checkbox enabled. Now I’m wondering, is it something to do with using Windows 7? I’ll have to fire up my XP computer and see what I get.
I’m expecting Vince Foster to reappear any day now.
2016, baby, 2016.
