Butch Matthews may still be a staunch Republican but at least he is no longer a participant in the Mass Hallucination. I wish Think Progress had asked him what he thinks of closing down the government to protest a law that he is “so happy came along” and that will save him many thousands of dollars annually.
I wonder if his consumption of Fox News won’t quite taste right from now on. I wonder how long it will take for him to make a full recovery.
This makes me happy and annoyed at the same time. (Surprised?)
Arkansas is one of the states along with Iowa that is making it’s state system even more of a giveaway to insurers. It’s frustrating because we could do better and cheaper. It’s better than nothing, but now if we try to change it to something better, he’ll raise holy hell all over again and scream hands off my Obamacare.
And be better and cheaper I mean like other states fully on-board with Obamacare not medicare for all or full on socialized medicine.
It makes me happy and annoyed, MN, but for different reasons. Did anyone read that article and come away with the feeling that he’ll be voting Democratic from now on? Because the tone I got — admittedly tone is difficult to tell without hearing voice or seeing gestures — was, “Thanks for the insurance…” pulls lever for Paul Ryan
Yeah…until Ryan and the rest of the GOTP loons start talking about cutting Obamacare subsidies.
You forget how it works….Lyin’ Ryan & Co. spouts off about how Democrats are trying to cut Obamacare, while pushing their own scheme to “improve” it.
Where “improve” means “kill it without fingerprints”.
Why should they change their tactics? That’s the approach they take for Medicare, and it’s fooled a lot of people.
Precisely. Facts be damned and in the “conservative” narrative the Dems are always the treasonous fifth column, destroyin’ our Way o’ Life!
Which is then blatted verbatim by our complicit “news” teams. And eaten whole by a credulous ignorant public (or very large portion of the public).
“Congressional Leaders Report No Progress On Shutdown After Meeting With Obama”

ting-with-obama
Why am I not surprised? Have you noticed the zombie crawling out of the wall? Grand Bargain is being whispered behind the hands of Paul Ryan and Co. Guess we will see who is getting played. I suspect it will be the DFHs again. Only Democrats can destroy the safety net and deregulate. All chasing the marsh gas of fiscal sobriety.
Maybe the Dems think one hand giveth, one hand taketh away? Plus, booga, booga, shut down. They must think they can get away with it at this moment. That is pretty cold.
I think (and hope) the Grand Bargain ship has sailed. First, Boehner embarrassed himself and the president when he was unable to get his caucus to accept their negotiated deal in 2011. Then Boehner publicly renounced further negotiations with the president and McConnell and Biden had to resolve the fiscal cliff nonsense.
The president has no reason to think that Boehner can deliver his caucus on any deal. Moreover, the president is IMO committed to putting an end to the brinksmanship on the debt.
Boehner and Cruz are over-matched and they’re not mindful of the steel in this president. They’ll learn soon enough, just like Netanyahu.
It does sound more hopeful this morning to read that O, R and P laughed in B’s face when he suggested it.
Perhaps this is just Politico interjecting third way propaganda.
It just reminds me about what I predicted for my Repub neighbors and friends. They oppose it, yelling, kicking and screaming, but they’ll be first in line to get it.
While trying to convince the poor, the non-white, the female to stay off it for FREEDOM.
all the while trying to justify why they deserve affordable health care, but poor minorities do not.
Sadly, we may have just created a new white-entitlement that only belongs to the stale-pale-male club.
Five years from now Republicans will want to cut Food Stamps & WIC so that they can keep the Affordable Care Act solvent.
Let’s hope we get to single-payer by then.
Yup, I tried a couple of sentences to capture just the right flavor of entitlement I see in them when they do this, but couldn’t find the right sentence. It’s like as long as its available they’re going to grab it because they really deserve it where as others don’t.
Boehner Says Obama Still Won’t Negotiate
We shall see. Check Digby.
The Tan Man was the one who brought up the “Grand Bargain” this time. Still, since we know the president has wanted one for his whole presidency, it’s worth it to remind him that a “grand bargain” is a no-go.
If it’s a “negotiation”, then the GOP has to give up something, instead of just the Democrats.
Like a tax hike on the 1%ers. Or serious gun control. Are you ready to deal, Mr. Boner?
Didn’t think so. This is hostage-taking, not negotiation.
Are we taking bets on the outcome and dates? If so then my prediction is GOP capitulation on 10/16/13 – a clean CR passes the House and Senate. After that…
It’s all freakin tactic to these people. Forget about how it hurts millions of americans!
“We’re not going to be disrespected, We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”
— Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), quoted by the Washington Examiner, on the government shutdown.

That POS Stutzman is also one of the Pro-Starvation Movement leaders.
These comments by republican “legislators” are priceless.
Some of them still don’t get it in any way, shape, or form. Some of them do get it, but filtered through a rich bed of bullshit and self-delusion. Here and there a bit of genuinely clueless honesty peeks through.

Why do you say that the comments are priceless?

It would be nice to think that substantial financial benefits from a new Dem program for the poor and middle class might have some effect on this conserva-clown’s political thinking, but I have to say I really doubt it. He’ll also take his demonic unpatriotic freedom-destroying Medicare and SS and whatever other Big Gub’mint payments he gets and then vote for Paul Ryan to be budget chair.
He’s so happy this law “came along”, like it fell out of the sky or was the product of some grand DC consensus, blind or oblivious to the fact that the party of which he is (still) a “staunch” member voted 100% against it and is still currently seeking to undo it at all costs. So I think there is still some level of mass delusion present here.
The “conservative” movement has spent 30 years poisoning the minds of guys like Butch. They have done their work well. He’ll never be able to think clearly ever again, and he’ll almost certainly never vote for a Dem as long as he lives, whatever his beloved “conservatives” may do to him and the country. Anything that helps him somehow just “came along”. Anything that hurts him is the clearly the product of the treasonous demonic Dem party and the horrible lazy welfare cheats that support it—right, Butch?
