The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team is still adjusting to the fact that Head Coach Juergen Klinsmann cut Landon Donovan from the World Cup roster.
The man who went on a shooting rampage last night at UC-Santa Barbara was a sexually-frustrated loser with ties to the Men’s Rights Movement.
Is it me, or has George Will descended into a cantankerous crank?
The Associated Press reports that “The Republican National Committee on Friday sued the Federal Election Commission for the ability to raise unlimited cash from individual donors.”
Is any one else disturbed that every time you visit The Hill you are bombarded with a Lockheed Martin pop-up advertisement? And what’s up with the new fad in pop-up ads that won’t close immediately when you click on the ‘x’? Even Daily Kos is annoying me with this new feature.
The Pentagon is closing a hotel, golf course, and skeet-shooting range as part of a more general downsizing of our European footprint. Who will save the Ukrainians?
Let’s have some John Prine for Memorial Day weekend.
Just looked at the matches in Group C: Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Surely one of the toughest for team USA, players need to be super fit, excellent endurance and youth may be an asset. Tough to make the 2nd round with or w/o Donovan.
If it’s not the Group of Death, what is? We are in a bad position. We must beat either Germany or Portugal. I am not a huge Donovan fan. He has scored some key goals, but he is not a great playmaker, and he is not a natural forward. We are better without him.
I guess you’ll have to define “play maker” for me. The guy has been one of the best in the world at serving up dangerous balls from the wing for years. Including one in the 2002 stunner vs. Portugal.
This was a blunder by Klinsmann’s ego.
The World Cup has a rich history of seasoned vets coming off the bench to make a difference in late in the game. Roger Milla anyone?
You would think that after Algeria that Donovan had earned that role at the very least…
As a full-time player, Landon Donovan would not have been worth it. Off the bench, he could have been a sparkplug: he knows how to finish.
A teens dumb tweet about the dismissal of Landon Donovan! His twitter account has been deleted.
Twitter makes it possible for anyone to allow stupid impulses to have a public forum. Regardless of what the kid thought, Donovan is due at least respect. I am not a fan of his, but he is an important and big figure in US soccer. The twitter tool allows a moment’s stupidity to live on for a long time. I am not a tweeter myself.
Certainly, but you do realize that 32, which I think is Donovan’s age, is considered old for The Beautiful Game, right? Yeah, some guys play a lot longer(Ryan Giggs) but they’ve long stopped playing for their national team and, unless playing in the lower tiers, have been relegated to supporting/substitution roles. Very few top flight teams have starters, that play the full 90 minutes, older than 35.
Know much says that someone develops an “injury” and Donovan ends up replacing him?
Wait. What?
Can someone please remind me of when Will WASN’T a cantankerous crank?
At least twenty years have passed since Old George stopped writing his own columns. The interns who research the topics he assigns vary in diligence, and those who crank out the five hundred word packets vary in crankiness but they have been sailing steadily out towards the fringes like a four hundred bit processor shot into space in 1970.
While we are on the subject of decrepit of old fossils, biological as well as technological, the Daily Kos that horks up annoying windows like so many virtual hairballs has long since abandoned its noble mission and lives on primarily to harvest mouse clicks from all the right wing goobers it has welcomed into its bosom.
George Will has always been a crank … but his move to Fox removed the last vestiges of restraint on him.
George Will hasn’t descended (probably because there isn’t too much further he could fall in his passive-aggressive ignorant bigotliness). He has remained his same old sad sack sneering self.
So Mr. Will’s idea of a model democratic president is Grover Cleveland. Nothing more need be said.
I think Will finds Grover Cleveland tainted by the fact of having solicited Yankee votes. Jefferson Davis is a much more congenial “president” for the bow-tied bloviator.
Good to see Will name-checks Woodrow Wilson as one of the devils of American history for initiating State of the Union addresses. Other than Will’s insufferable stuffiness, his manifesto here is indistinguishable from any Glenn Beck rant.
He has deteriorated rather severely during the Obama Administration. It is difficult to ignore the implications of that fact. Decades ago, Will wrote beautifully about the progress made by our Nation’s culture and society when Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball. One comes to the unavoidable conclusion that he would now write columns defending Ben Chapman’s free speech rights against the politically correct masses who were horrified when Chapman’s vile race-baiting of Robinson.
Racism- it’s a helluva drug.
Just like Breivik, a 141 page manifesto and expecting one day of “fame.” Policemen were at his house after a warning of the very troubling YouTube videos. An interview of a few minutes outside his home …
Oh for the days of Calvin Coolidge. Boo, it’s not you, it is (always was) him.
