I’m tired of cops killing people for no good damn reason. Chokeholds, tasers, billyclubs, bad shootings. The NYPD ought to have better things to do than to worry about people selling untaxed cigarettes in a state were a pack costs something like 13 bucks.
A 400-pound asthmatic Staten Island dad died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, video of the incident shows.
“I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Eric Garner, 43, repeatedly screamed after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he balked at being handcuffed.
Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.
“When I kissed my husband this morning, I never thought it would be for the last time,” Garner’s wife, Esaw, told the Daily News.
The police harassed this guy on a regular basis and had him up on charges for weed possession and selling black market cigarettes. I don’t see them putting Lloyd Blankfein in a chokehold.
With the recent militarization of local police forces, expect such instances to become more frequent. Although it may not have been a factor in the killing of this Staten Island man. Not sure Staten Island and its police have been friendly to non-white residents.
Hey, don’t sweat it, man. He was from the ever growing category of “Dispensable Mammals”, right?
I’m tired as hell of cops killing and wounding people with no consequences. The militarization of the police seems to have extended to seeing those whom they kill as collateral damage.
He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

Just one more reason I got no problem with games like GTA where you can kill cops if you want.
Oh! If only!
You don’t understand. This is a drug war and New York is a gang of pushers. They want the revenue. It’s like “Breaking Bad”.
If the high tax was about stopping smoking, they would make sale & possession illegal. It’s about the money and someone cutting into their turf.

Remember Shanesha Taylor, the Arizona mother who was arrested and had her children taken away from her because she left them in the car earlier this year while she tried to interview for a job?
Well, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Taylor’s lawyers, saying that the two counts of child abuse will be dropped if Taylor meets certain terms and conditions, the Arizona Republic reports.
According to the news site, Taylor will have to “complete parenting and substance-abuse classes,” as well as begin separate “education and child-care trusts” for her three kids. The education trusts must hold no less than $10,000.
When asked if she accepted the terms, Taylor told Judge Joseph Welty, “Yes, your honor.”
“Based on all the facts and circumstances in this matter, we believe this agreement represents a just resolution that appropriately holds the defendant accountable for her actions while also recognizing the best interests of her family,” Montgomery said in a statement, according to the Republic. “The stipulations of this agreement also ensure that pledges of support from members of the public will have a meaningful and positive impact,” he added.
