Slow day at the Trib. The Big Frog’s working on some stuff, I had a busy day at work and running afterwards, and Steven D did is part earlier today. It looks like I’m a little late on my contribution (hey other Tribbers, chime in?), so here’s a song about being late. It’s one of my favorites, by one of my favorite country singers, Lefty Frizzell.
Ol’ Lefty is in many ways forgotten. he was a contemporary of hank Williams, and I have no doubt if he’d died young like Hank, his legacy wouldn’t be ruined by the crappy-ass Countrypolitan sound he was forced to adopt to fit in. His early stuff, like all of Hank’s catalog -so spare, so pure, so damn honest and personal- is wonderful. He directly influenced Merle Haggard -after you listen to the video below, check out Goodbye Lefty and note Hag’s delivery- and wrote some of my very favorite country love songs (betcha didn’t know I’m a total sucker for that kinda thing).
Consider this an open thread. What’s on your mind? What songs do YOU love? Dive right in, I have one or two other videos in comments.

Off to a jam session, but I’m looking forward to your mushiness when I get back.
Carol D. Leonnig and David Nakamura, Washington Post: Obama aides knew of possible White House link to Cartagena prostitution scandal
Bezos’s Bozos are still hyping the “problems in the Secret Service” story.
The target of the story is here:
So Secret Service is under Jeh Johnson, one candidate for the attorney general job. And the investigation of the prostitution scandal was done by Kathryn Ruemmler, rumored to be another candidate on the list.
I’m beginning to smell a campaign to taint every candidate for Attorney General that is rumored to be on the list of candidates.
And here’s a song to go with that:
Thanks, Brendan, for posting Lefty. He’s way underappreciated, even by many fans of early country.
This one’s a goodie. John died years ago, Glen is succumbing to Alzheimers. It makes me think of the girl I like.
