No one could have predicted that Mitt Romney would get hammered for politicizing the deaths in Benghazi. Idiot.
Glen Doherty was one of four Americans killed in the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate.
Romney met Doherty at a Christmas party.
7News spoke with Doherty’s mother.
“I don’t trust Romney. He shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda. It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama,” said Barbara Doherty, Glen’s mother.
There was no response from the Romney camp.
They’ll be lucky if Ms. Doherty isn’t in a 30-second advertisement by tomorrow evening. What did I say?
Take any one of those men’s widows and/or children and cut a 30-second ad of them scolding Romney for trying to become president on the back of their husband and father, and Team Mitt will be reduced to a smoldering pile of rubble…
…They will have the taste slapped out of their mouths.
Mothers work best of all. And Team Romney will deserve it.
Do you think she’d see being in an add scolding Romney about her son’s death as using it as part of a political agenda?
I’m not trying to snark, I see the difference obviously.
I would assume that she would be asked first. Unlike Romney, I just don’t see Obama as the type who would use a persons story on the stump unless he has permission. All the first person stories is used in the convention were people who agreed to tell their story in an effort to re-elect Obama and also unlike Romney, they told their stories themselves in the ads produced during the convention.
Yes, I’m not trying to imply Obama would use her story without permission. I think his team did that one time in 2008 and it was revealed to be a simple mistake. I was just wondering if she’d agree to be in an ad attacking Romney.
I await the Politico piece “Both Sides Accused of Politicizing National Heroes”:
Both the Romney and Obama campaigns are responding today to criticism of ads politicizing beloved national icons. In the case of the former governor of Massachusetts, the charge comes from the mother of a dead Navy SEAL, who accused Mr. Romney of making her “son’s death part of his political agenda.” The President, for his part, has had to deal with accusations from the creators of Big Bird that he made partisan use of the eight-foot avian to poke fun at his rival.
It’s all about the equivalence.
OH please. Big Bird is a national hero on par with a fallen soldier.
Come on Politico
Besides which, I could have sworn I read somewhere that the “creator” of Big Bird was a big OBama backer anyway. It was the CTW who wanted the ads taken down.
edited to add I just recognized ur snark, but sad to say, I can surely see politico doing exactly that.
When the election is over, I’m hoping Booman will host a contest for the best Politco parody, with points awarded for style and most tortured use of the “both sides do it” meme.
Wow, Romney screwed up trying to use the attack in Libya to score political points?
That’s so strange. It worked out so well for him last time.
Good friend of SEAL is recounting the meeting with Romney, ThinkProgress has the story, where Mitt reintroduced himself 3 times in 30 minutes without remembering each encounter.
Outcome is that Romney’s meeting is now being labelled pathetic. Not a good ending for Mitt.
Nothing is real to this spoiled rich weirdo.
Heres the ThinkProgress Link
A few days ago, DaveW said, in response to Serious Question regarding Romney’s use of personal anecdotes.
(to which I suggested: “Roomney?”)
This story really fills in the picture. Roomney’s an automated people-meeting Robot. He works his way around the room, sometimes hitting the same targets multiple times, attempting to introduce himself to all of the impressive people he might be able to claim he once knew in his next campaign cycle. How efficient – an anecdote-collecting robot.
Someone should warn the public. How can 40-some percent of Americans be so dumb as to say they would outsource the job of the Presidency to such a machine? And one with a faulty memory module, at that. He seems to “remember” things that never happened and “forget” things he’s said for the record on a regular basis.
Yes, outrage is good, and well deserved.
But also … that video of FDR mocking his opposition on the Daily Show last night (i think it was last night) is priceless. Is that in the public domain? Can that get pushed out to a wider audience?
Romney should be continuously mocked for the junk he’s selling. The TV ads should end with rolling-on-the-floor-laughing.
Throw in some video of his peers from the primary, all those jokers, and give the electorate a good laugh now, so that maybe we can skip the tears later on.
Mitt Romney – Man of Integrity.
You know that Bud Light “Real Men of Genius” series of commercials? Somebody ought to do a series of mocking radio ads and a website “Real Men of Integrity” for all the episodes of high-integrity (not) displayed by both Romney and Ryan.
The ads just write themselves. Between the two serial liars, you could crank out three or four of them each day.
Like they say, if you wrestle with a pig, everyone gets covered in mud, and the pig likes it.
Don’t treat him like a statesman. Expose his game, and treat him like the charlatan he is.
He’s trying to pull a fast one, and way too much of the voting public are easy pickings.
Help them to see.
isn’t if interesting how Romney uses other people’s tragedies and hardships as if they were his own just by listening.
First he uses his father and mother relative modest beginning to further the notion that he know.
Then he uses the story of parishioners who came to him for personal advice in the act of a Bishop to tell how he feels your pain.
Then he ‘READS’ about how brave a soldier was/is and somehow that makes he look better ’cause I guess he can read.
The man is probably fine in his social circle, but outside of it he just comes off a so disingenuous that it’s ridiculous
“They went there. They didn’t hunker down where they were in safety,” Romney said. “They rushed there to go help. This is the American way. We go where there’s trouble. We go where we’re needed.”
And then the Mittbot said that what’s his campaign is about as well- there’s trouble in our nation, and he goes where he’s needed.
WHAT. AN. ASSHOLE!
I am beginning to hate the Romney campaign and this candidate with the heat of a thousand suns. I’m going to work very hard to see that the whole conservative movement gets a comeuppance November 6th.
Fuck these people, seriously. These Americans should be ashamed of themselves.
I wonder who’s gonna land the Big Interview with her? My money’s on the Today Show. Maybe tomorrow morning. Poor woman’s phone is probably ringing off the hook right now.

wow!
I just read that story you reference. Here’s a real Link.
Incredible.
This works better for Romney. Stick with exploiting dead people who supported you.
