Happy Hump Day! Once again, I’m filling in for Don Durito. I’m continuing my theme of music from movies this week with three songs by Shriekback from the original Hannibal Lecter movie, “Manhunter” from 1986. I begin with my favorite song from the soundtrack, “This Big Hush.”
My next favorite is “Coelocanth,” which I posted on my personal blog five years ago as “Song for a living fossil.” Here it is in context, as the background for the tiger scence in “Manhunter.” The song begins about 0:40. The scene is both beautiful and creepy.
Clip of Manhunter (1986) by Michael Mann, starring Joan Allen (as Reba McClane), Tom Noonan (as Francis Dollarhyde), & William Petersen (as Will Graham)
The final song is “Evaporation.” This is the original version; the upload of the movie version has less than ideal sound quality. I might embed it in the comments.
Once again, I’m concluding the diary proper by quoting Don Durito.
For those of you wondering how I and Neon Vincent are circumventing Sucuri to embed videos, here is an example of the embed code we use, so that you can replicate as wanted:
Just remember that each unique 11-digit video code in YouTube needs to be pasted in two separate locations within the embed code in order for your video to show up properly. So easy that I can do it!
With these instructions, feel free to post your favorite music videos in the comments.
How about A Nice Chianti: Hannibal Inspired Cocktail?
The bartender is now taking requests.
That should work well with dinner. 🙂
I hope some folks will contribute. These sorts of diaries are the rough equivalent of what the old Froggy Bottom Cafe/Lounge was up until a few years ago.
And thanks to Neon Vincent for taking over for a bit. My own life has been spiraling a bit as of late. Sometimes community members practically cry for help and no one answers. I am thankful someone did for me. That will not be forgotten.
Want me to take over again this week? Whenever you’re ready to post an installment, just tell me.
That, my friend, sounds like a plan.
A plan it is, then. I already have a theme picked out.
I got turned on to a series of Swedish films that comprised what was then the Millennium Trilogy, starting with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The books became among my treasured favorites. The US version of the first film (regrettably the sequels never got made) was not quite as good as either the books or the original Swedish film bearing its title, but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying. The lead actors did well, and the filming captured the mood. Trent Reznor put together one hell of a soundtrack, including a cover Is You Love Strong Enough? by How to Destroy Angels (one of his other projects when he isn’t Nine Inch Nails). Enjoy the videoclip accompanying the song. This particular YouTube artist focused on the protagonist, Lisbeth Salander, and I must say I love the effect created going black and white instead of color.
Would Anybody Die For Me from the Swedish film The Girl Who Played With Fire. The Slovak National Orchestra is in the mix of this tune by Jacob (composer) and Misen Groth (composer & vocalist).
This David Bowie track first appeared in Cat People, but is put to great use in Inglourious Basterds as another of my heroines, Shosanna Dreyfus prepares to exact revenge for what the Nazis did to her family.
I wrote that I might embed the movie version of “Evaporation” in the comments. Here it is, faster and shorter than the original.
