Has anyone else been following this face transplant story in France? I’m not sure I understand why it’s such a breakthrough. I would’ve thought that we’ve had the technology to do this for some time. And why are their ethical concerns about a face transplant? It’s one’s underlying bone structure that determines how one looks, for the most part, so it’s not like you’ll look a lot different (other than your nose and lips, I suppose). In any event, it’s interesting.
Hope you like the cartoon. It’s a groaner.

Belly laughing so hard I think I need a stomach transplant!
Seriously now. . .
Skin is a rather special organ and, as I understand it, has been difficult (if not impossible) to transplant in large — shall we say(?) sheets.
And with the exception of eyes, other transplant organs are internal. As in out of sight, out of mind. THus most organ transplants don’t crrep people out as much as the thought of getting someone else’s highly visible face.
But perhaps more pertinent than the above is that skin is cosmetically highly personal in terms of texture and pigmentation. It’s gotta match, if you know what I mean.
Do these points strike a chord with you?
Yep, thanks. I guess since we’ve been doing skin grafts for years it makes me “misunderestimate” the amount of technical know-how that goes into moving an entire section of skin.
