made a couple of comments on the last two at the b, and will reply to e/m later.
It was not, however, “more than I wanted to know”, as I’m curious about a variety of things; like you, as a person, your work, and particularly that type of work, (as that type of editing I’m not familiar with at all.)
I’m fascinated with people and what they do in general, but I’m also looking for new career possibilities.
I’d better let this one go or you’ll think I’ve drifted off.
However, for your very sanity I must steer you away from FCH … 🙂 And you’re right: it is very different from ‘traditional’ editing. If you have any questions send them along.
It’s interesting to me to see what directions people’s lives have taken. I think it’s so bizarre for example that a violinist says at 7 yoa what he intends to be and then does it.
And then there’s others for whom things fall into place it seems with no effort. And then others who struggle a lifetime and maybe never find there true calling.
Remind me again, what does FCH stand for. Ya know how the memory is for your elders…
I’d have severe doubts as to my ability to be highly “organized” at this point in my life, if indeed I ever was.
As far as normal editing, what I really like playing with is the use of vocabulary, sentence structure, p structure, etc. I like a work to be understandable to the targeted reader. And I see so much that is not. And I see much that is extremely poor in publications that one would expect to be much better at it.
I do notice that … I do it all the time w/ ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ … I liken it to this being a different medium, more in-the-moment, more like talking, etc.
Changing topic a bit: Here’s a link you might find more interesting NDD.
When I clicked on it to check to make sure the link worked before posting, I was looking through some of the bugs and one caught my eye — but was all black. It was a weevil. I figured they had to be related in some way to be so similar, so I googled ‘weevil green’ and then followed my nose.
And for you, “HI there”. That`s it.
Not!
Here`s a little bouquet I made up from different shots of buds on a climbing rose that`s getting better.
I found a brokendown wedding arch-trellis with a dried up rose plant on it . That was a few yrs ago, & after moving it around at my place, it`s chosen it`s space, & here`s the thanks I get. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5449/cometogethersmallversion7xc.jpg
My yellow rose bush had no blooms this year. I didn’t prune last fall or this spring. What should I do for next year?
And I’ve got runners of rose coming up in the grass from close to a couple feet off the main plant. Should I put a shovel in between the main and the little one and then wait a while to transplant.
If the rose is a graft? … the runners are usually the hardier root stock, but teh pretty flowers are grafted on. When runners grow, they are below the graft and they won’t have the same blooms. I usually cut these off. It might be worth checking on your specific type of rose …
Yeah, I think so. But it’s not more than a meter from that iris photo I had, so they seemed to be doing OK. But might be a diff modus operandi for them. It’s been very dry.
I planted some three lilacs off the edge of the lawn but close enough to trees to hit finger sized roots. The soil was unbelieveably dry, and we’d had .50″ not two days before. So could be the very dry conditions have affected the rose bush, but not the earlier blooming iris.
To clear away older woody stems which will not produce blooms. Maybe it’s time for a good ‘haircut’ …
Did you know this:
Americans are so fond of the rose, they voted it the country’s official flower in 1986. It is also the state flower of Georgia, Iowa, New York, North Dakota, and the District of Columbia. link
Gave bye-bye notice for the night, down below. Been another fun evening. See you tomorrow.
Ha, this morning I decided you must have twin, with a very similar personality. Blogging to 3-4AM, then up with the larks… figured it had to be two of ya. Either than or ya got some strange Canadian elixer-brew I ain’t yet heard of.
Speaking of bugs. The other day I took some pics of these orchids, but didn`t realize anything till I was downloading from my camera. Since my office door is always open I thought this bug was on my screen. http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/253/dscn70712ft.jpg
G’night everyone, I need to get some rest for tomorrow. The new person starts in my department. Woohoo!
Good luck tomorrow!
🙂
as I was working off comments in the recent comment dept and inadvertently ended up here instead of there.
Where’s the rest of the nightowls… too early yet?
But I’d say it doesn’t look +ve. Did you get my e/m?

fact checking hell … 🙂
That is all very interesting NDD. Seems in keeping w/ what I ‘know’ of you — that interest in people etc.
Your comment about the poor quality in pubs made me lol — when I was fc I was even finding errors in the published journal articles.
at BT as any kind of example of my work, ha!
like there = their for example.
I see quite often that phonetic spellings creep into computer writing, and I don’t recall having that problem prior to using the computer as a wp.
Do you notice that phenomenon?

what was your strategy for sleuthing?

for sleuthing since getting into FCH.
I’m lurking. Oops — no I’m not.
Since you`re convinced you`re not lurking, then you can take a peek at this.
It`s for nonlurkers only.

Then here`s an inner world flower. It`s really a tube anemone & it fluoreces very nicely. The central core & the spots on it`s tentacles glow at night.

How old is it?
Probably been there some 20 years. Never did bush out much. It gets small rose blossoms, nut much bigger than say golf ball size.
These are green runners. They run around my place everyday. I think I posted it once before, but I`m making Olivia wait for something pink.

Here’s some info on pruning — scroll down.
Hey thanks,O I’ll take a look and save that one.

Is that a subtle hint?
You`ll have to wait on something from my “Pink” files. In the meantime
just take a hot bath in these green torches.

I’ll go see a man about a horse, then be back a moment or two,and that’ll be about it for tonight. Been another fun one.
Take a look at the last link for pruning info.
I’m going as well. Good night knuckle and any other lurking froggies … See ya!
