And a happy Friday to all.  I feel like I’ve become a lurker lately…

Figured I’d take the opportunity to post a new cafe while I was awake.  ðŸ™‚

Has anyone heard from keres lately?

AndiF on February 11, 2011 at 5:32 am

I did notice I had a lurker from Hobart at my blog back in January. I kind of doubt anybody else from Hobart would’ve been by so I guess that sort of a word but it’s not much of one. I hope she, Imogen, and all the critters are okay.

        Good morning Andi and CG,

Pretty cold down here today.  However, this coming week we’re supposed to warm up.

I’m hoping Keres, Imogen and critters are doing OK too.

Definitely hope so too. I take that lurker as a good sign.

At home today for the holiday.  Being an underpaid civil servant does have its advantages.

Good afternoon everyone! Nice sparkles up above, Andi!

They were very, very pretty and I’m very, very glad they’re gone. Now I can’t wait for the warm-up to finish off the last of the ice and snow.

    Good morning all,

We’re back into the middle 20’s at the moment, but this week I think spring will finally start down here.

    Everyone stay warm.

    • AndiF
AndiF on February 12, 2011 at 6:53 am

I don’t trust any nice weather in February to be a lasting thing but I’ll be happy to wrong.

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on February 12, 2011 at 7:24 am

I’d even settle for a fleeting day of unseasonably warm right now.  It’s been REALLY cold.  So cold, I’ve actually been throwing my latest knitting project around my shoulders to fight off the chill in the house…

        • Family Man
Family Man on February 12, 2011 at 8:03 am

Get that heater going!  The weatherman said we’re up to 26F at the moment, so I’d say we’re warming up nicely. 😉

Our thermometer says we’re up to 32° F. already – almost shorts and sandals weather.

On Thursday days ago the dogs and I was were out walking in near 0 temps. Yesterday we hit 44 degrees. Warmth is on its way.

Here too….finally.  It’s been unseasonably cold since early December and I’m, frankly, really really sick of it.

AndiF on February 13, 2011 at 6:38 am

It’s the green that I’m really lusting for but I’ve got weeks and weeks to wait. How soon will it start greening up there?

        • Second Nature
Second Nature on February 13, 2011 at 7:31 am

Hey Andi. I think it’ll start greening up pretty fast next week, with temps in the 70s.  That’s not to say it won’t snow again, but I have the feeling true winter is really over.  The forsythia looks just about ready and the daffodils have been poking up for a few weeks now, though not blooming yet.

Being the weather wizard I am, I would say spring is here.  Unless we get one more snow, which might be two, but no more than three.  But spring is here. 😉

            Hi SN,

We’re doing fine if not a little cold.  It was 28F this morning here, but it’s supposed to warm up this afternoon.

How have you been doing?  Haven’t heard from you in awhile.

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on February 13, 2011 at 8:53 am

Oh, I’m fine, thanks for asking.  Soon we’ll both be complaining about the heat.

My jealousy knows no bounds … except for that boundary that exists somewhere south of here that has the big sign saying “Green or not, you do not want to live in the South”.

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on February 13, 2011 at 8:54 am

Aside from the heat it’s not a bad place.  Raleigh isn’t really The South.  It’s “bluer” than most of Ohio…

          • wilderness wench
wilderness wench on February 13, 2011 at 10:56 am

NC on the whole grows ever bluer, no?

          • AndiF
AndiF on February 13, 2011 at 8:25 pm

I guess that’s true and I do like the western part of the state. And it isn’t like Indiana is any kind of progressive paradise (Bloomington excluded).

When I lived in Asheville it was known as ‘San Francisco South’.

There was plenty going on there that would make your garden-variety social conservative pretty uncomfortable.

My mother agrees with your assessment that the worst of winter is over.  Since I have a business trip to San Diego next week that I don’t want to go on (I’ll have to leave Finny overnight), I’m sure it will snow like the dickens the day I’m gone to make it hard to come home…

We still have a lot of snow covering our yard.

          • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on February 13, 2011 at 3:27 pm

            Temps in the 70s?  Sigh.

We are supposed to get up to 60 by Thursday though – I hope the weatherman is right for a change.

I hope he is, too, CG.

Me, I’m just happy to see no negative numbers!

Good morning all. Snow shower predicted here for tonight but temps of 54 tomorrow so I guess the snow cave is a distant memory

    • AndiF
AndiF on February 13, 2011 at 8:31 am

After two days above freezing, there’s still a good bit of snow and ice left; but everywhere the snow and ice has melted, the ground has thawed and mud abounds.

What beautiful imagery. This is pure poetry ..

Why thank you — though mud abounding is not my idea of beautiful imagery. 😉

wilderness wench on February 13, 2011 at 8:50 pm

I once attended a little gathering that ended with a gang of naked, beautiful people chanting about the beauty of mud while bathing in it. Much fun!

            Mud is good.

The ads here have finally wised up – they’ve stopped showing pictures of overweight ppl (are they a hint? why they think pics of overweight ppl are inspiring?) and they’re showing pictures of beaches and cruises.

    • Indianadem
Indianadem on February 13, 2011 at 1:41 pm

Hmmm… I’m mostly getting The Economist & New Yorker ads. They’re a welcome change from seeing that idiot Pence on my monitor all the time.

      • Errol
Errol on February 13, 2011 at 1:55 pm

what do those ads know? am I secretly ordering food through the internet? I know not while I’m awake but maybe while asleep? Pence so far has no marketability in my area so I’m not seeing his face fortunately.

Haven’t been secretly streaming old Galloping Gourmet reruns?

Speaking of, I found both volumes of ‘The Galloping Gournet Television Cookbook’ at the recycling center last week. The recipes are pretty standard type fare, but I really dig all the swingin’ pix of Graham Kerr!
