“[I]n times of crisis it’s interesting that people don’t turn to the novel or say, ‘We should all go out to a movie,’ or ‘Ballet would help us.’ It’s always poetry. What we want to hear is a human voice speaking directly in our ear.”
Billy Collins, U.S. Poet Laureate (2001-2003) speaking to the New York Times, as quoted in The Dead Beat by Marilyn Johnson

A young Iraqi boy grimaces as he is treated by doctors after being wounded in a mortar attack Friday April 28, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq. At least 10 people were wounded, mostly children, when a mortar hit a house in western Baghdad.

from Lullaby
by W. H. Auden
Lay your sleeping head, my love,
Human on my faithless arm;
Time and fevers burn away
Individual beauty from
Thoughtful children, and the grave
Proves the child ephemeral:
But in my arms till break of day
Let the living creature lie,
Mortal, guilty, but to me
The entirely beautiful.

Peace
Peace be.
…no more deaths.
So fucking ashamed. More so than usual, of course. My god, what are we doing? I hate this series Rub, but I love you for bringing it to us. I cannot back down from being a witness, each and every day. This must stop, we must not perpetuate this death, anguish, suffering, pain… When will there be peace? Will it ever be?
And America doesn’t care. KNow why… cause they don’t care about their own children here in the states.
Home of the free and the brave… BULLSHIT.
Home of the apathetic and the greedy.
If my child was injured or g-d forbig killed in this “liberation” I’d be hell bent on killing every single person involved and supportive as more so – the ones who willingly remained ignorant and silent.
They’d no my wrath till I was shot down in the streets… as a mother… but I’d be labeled a terrorist.
How many kids are we going to allow to die for our sense of freedom?
