BP President Lamar McKay had a fun time in front of Congress today.
Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) today called for McKay to resign. But during today’s hearing before a subpanel of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao, the Vietnamese-American Republican who represents New Orleans, suggested a harsher form of punishment.
“Mr. Stearns asked Mr. McKay to resign,” Cao said. “Well, in the Asian culture we do things differently. During the Samurai days, we just give you a knife and ask you to commit harakiri.”
Harakiri is a form of ritual suicide that was practiced by samurais who committed serious offenses.
Now, telling people they should kill themselves is considered impolite in our society. But I understand the sentiment.
About 90 degrees off course of your point, I would have celebrated the visual had BP/US Coast Guard accepted the help of nations offering to send container ships and equipment to capture the gushing oil: the sight of ships crossing the oceans en masse, arriving to take on the task and just a importantly if a few had employed skysails to get there would have been breathtaking…
From crazy to crazier:

So she gets it, that the fund would be administered by “outsiders”, presumably outside government, and yet it’s a plot to redistribute wealth and give more money to the government. How do you deal with sheer pathology like this in high places?
I’m feeling like I need to apologize to the Soviet Union for despising them for locking political dissenters in the psych ward. Anybody have a better alternative? Is there a limit to how much mad raving a society can survive?
Instead, in polite company such as the congress, you’re asked to go fuck yourself.
Nitpick, but wasn’t this yesterday, or am I dreaming it?
It was yesterday.
Of course Stearns and Cao were among the front line cheerleaders for Drill Baby Drill, and they and/or their GOP and turncoat Dem colleagues are still whining about the moratorium.
A whole boxload of knives would be necessary for all the the serious offenders to share, and since harikari depended on a sense of honor, I fear something a little more mandatory would be required.
Just imagine what would happen if a Democrat had said what Cao did. As it is, I’ve barely heard a peep about his words outside the blogs.
