I guess what we really need is to elect a Democratic administration and then make it so they never have to seek reelection. Then, maybe, we can get eight years of progressive policy instead of two.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Friday barred local and state police from using federal law to seize cash, cars and other property without evidence that a crime occurred.
Holder’s action represents the most sweeping check on police power to confiscate personal property since the seizures began three decades ago as part of the war on drugs.
Not to complain, but that wasn’t so hard, was it?
Whoa. Green Lantern.
Pardon me, but I’m going to wait on applauding until it’s clear that state/local cops are actually going to follow Holder’s order.
Now, if Holder deployed FBI SWAT teams to take down the offending cops and return the property, okay.
FBI not needed. More ACLU attys. There is now a basis for a winnable civil suit.
Wait and see
So yes, this is good news, but if it just means that local and state enforcement agencies will add a federal officer to the bust somehow in order to get around it, then I’m less excited.
I would much prefer to see an order abolishing equitable sharing (i.e., if feds adopt a seizure, then the locals and state get nothing).
Yeah ok.
I won’t even get into it with you, because I’m not in the mood.
This reads like ponies and unicorn wishes about why this wasn’t done on day one.
Actually, I think it is just the opposite, recognizing the realities and why certain things could not be done earlier.
Yeah, By keeping their heads down and playing it safe, the Obama administration and the rest of the Dem leadership didn’t put their majorities in the House and Senate at risk. And as a side benefit, they kept things in Congress — and politics in general — from becoming more acrimonious and unproductive.
Yeah, that was very realistic of them.
It seems as if the election of a rancid Republican Congress has removed all prospect of an accommodation or “grand bargain” and has actually freed the Obama administration to do a lot of stuff they should have been doing a long time ago. It also means centrist Democrats have no leverage because they have no prospect of delivering a deal or being the swing vote on anything.
This is what happens when the mad men take over. Nobody even bothers to talk to them or worry about what mad thing they might do next – they will do it anyway. The Republicans are in a poor place if their only option is impeachment. But then if their thesis is that Government can’t do much good anyway, they can always prove themselves right by achieving nothing.
And just what are they going to do when Obama keeps vetoing their bills?
An old NYC Irish saying about too little, too late:
The story of the Obama saga in a nutshell.

He’s not running for anything anymore and you didn’t vote for him anyway.
He never ran for anything. Nothing except the title of PermaGov frontman. And you are quite correct. I did not vote for him. i will never vote for a candidate who does not publicly promise to stop the economic imperialist policies of the U. S. no matter what the cost to its citizens. In the long run that is the only path to survival for both this country and quite possibly for humankind as well.
On all available evidence, why should I care for the survival of the human race?
A valid question.
I guess I am just sentimental.
Evolution continues.
For now.
EWe shall see j]how far it goes.
Won’t we.
Later…if there is such a thing, of course…

Does anyone here think Rand Paul knew what the seizure policy policy was prior to today? Freedom…Liberty.
