   Communities in the East, from New York to West Virginia, are preparing their very own contributions to Cheney’s personal coffers — by allowing the use of Halliburton’s patented gas drilling technologies against the Marcellus shale formation lying beneath.

   Hungry landowners are selling themselves out for a song, while the potential effects will, no doubt, impact the NY metro area’s water supply — now one of the cleanest in the nation, thanks to the Catskills watershed — because of wasteful & polluting water use practices necessary to this technology.

   And then, of course, will come the water battles ..

   ‘Crisis capitalism’ comes home yet again, folks. No doubt landowners wouldn’t be so quick to sign away their personal resources for a few bloody cents if they weren’t so insecure economically.

     ww, chimpy & co™ are pushing this real hard in the mountain west, but it’s meeting a great deal of reisitance. to wit:

     In Utah, an oil shale player says it’s ready to go

     SALT LAKE CITY–President Bush’s call on Wednesday for speeding up development of oil shale in the Rocky Mountains runs headlong into Colorado and Wyoming leaders, who say the environmental costs are too high and the technology unproven.
