    Old cafe here.

    How is everyone this morning?

CBtY has a suspicious right-sided abdominal pain that started last night.  No fever, no vomiting, but I’m a little worried about it…

    • Family Man
Family Man on December 18, 2007 at 6:41 am

      Morning CG.

It is right side lower quadrant.  If you think it might be appendix, press where the pain is, and if it hurts on rebound, then it probably is.

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on December 18, 2007 at 7:59 am

        Yep.  Complete with rebound pain.

I hope I’m wrong on this.

I’ll keep fingers and toes crossed that you’re wrong on the Dx.

I was just reading an article that said they have been close to impossible to obtain.  Nintendo, being very conservative, didn’t want to make too many.  On the plus side, they are going to continue production levels even after Christmas, so they should be more readily available next year.  I’m hoping to pick one up for KamaKid’s B-Day in April.

Hope I can catch you in time, be sure to ask doctors not to use the low bid knock out juice but to upgrade to the next level. The low bid stuff is standard procedure and can cause the patient to upchuck and generally feel miserable when coming out of the post surgery fog. Good luck and don’t spend too much time at the vending machines!

  14. CabinGirl
CabinGirl on December 19, 2007 at 7:36 am

From our freezing cold hospital room.  I’d trade the wifi for some heat, really.  🙂

CBtY has been up to the bathroom a few times, is waiting for some medicine for pain, and is hoping to go home today.  Since the hospital is full enough that they’re putting adults in the pediatric unit, I’m thinking that’s a good bet, although they’ve told us that he might have to stay a second night.

He’s currently zoning out on the Fairly Odd Parents cartoon.

Just talked to CBtE, and he’s up and ready to head off to school…but sounds really tired.

    • AndiF

    • Second Nature
Second Nature on December 19, 2007 at 7:54 am

yay!  Did they do it with the laparoscope instead of the old fashioned way?  When the Nature Boy had it last year, there was a guy who had the new way who went home the next day, while my guy stayed in the hospital, catheterized and on a morphine pump, for a week!

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on December 19, 2007 at 8:14 am

The surgeon had originally intended to do it the traditional way, but I asked about the laparascopy, and he decided to do that, since we had caught the problem early and he wanted to be able to make sure there wasn’t anything else going on in there.

NB’s rupture probably had a lot to do with the size of his scar and long stay.  I tell you, these manly college dudes, ignoring their stomach pain…  🙂

        • Second Nature
Second Nature on December 19, 2007 at 8:29 am

Yep, he probably blamed the pain on the 11th cheap beer he had downed the previous night.  Just kidding…..I hope. 🙂

I’ll let you know when I find it.  🙂

Actually, he’s been great through this while thing.  He doesn’t like being an invalid that much, but he does enjoy the catering to his dietary whims and on-demand movie desires.

Yesterday afternoon when the gas from the laparascopy was bothering him (the most painful part of the whole thing, by far), and he got a little snappy about it until we got him comfortable again, he apologized right away for being grumpy about it.  As if that needed any apology!

          • AndiF
AndiF on December 21, 2007 at 6:02 am

The books are a definite, snow’s a possibility, skiing is an huge improbability. But we’ll definitely do some hiking — with at least one big hike over at the state’s largest park (15,000 acres) which is about 10 minutes away. Jim and I have a “tradition” of hiking over there on Christmas because it’s particularly appealing to hike when we’re the only ones there.

          • ask
ask on December 21, 2007 at 7:05 am

          • AndiF
AndiF on December 21, 2007 at 7:17 am

I did some cross-country skiing the first couple of years after we moved out here in ’79 but there were several significant problems — we have very steep hillsides, the amount of snow varies wildly so I couldn’t work on my skills consistently, and every time I fell the dogs thought it was a great game called “Jump on Andi while she tries to get up while wearing skis”.

I cannot believe you have scored a Wii.  Short of lining up in the pre-dawn outside of Best Buy, I have not been able to find one (other than being scalped on Craigslist) for an entire year.  They keep saying they’re going to increase production, but they’re doing this deliberately, don’t you think?

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on December 21, 2007 at 8:49 am

I can’t believe it either, to be honest.  I swung by gamestop just to see when they would be opening, and there were a half dozen people there in line, waiting for them to open, and I got ticket number 5, so I got one of the last 14 they got in before Christmas.  Must be all the good wishes everyone sent our way from the FBC.

And I totally think this is market manipulation on the part of Nintendo.  All that free advertising on the teevee news? Too much to resist.

      Morning, Andi!
Not bad at all, 5.30. And you’ve got almost 2 weeks to improve…
Alas, I’ve been up almost 2 hrs already.

I think I’ve become physically unable to sleep past 5:30. I guess I should be grateful since waking at 4:30 is pretty much my norm.

I managed to sneak in a little morning nap, just back – and it felt good.

Good morning ask! I knew I had arrived at geezerhood when napping began to take priority over most of my other activities (sex, eating, reading, partying, etc;-)

            Good morning, id!
The thing about those priorities is that you can combine a nap with pretty much all those you list (maybe not the party part). You get out ahead either way.

I tried snuggling on the couch with Sniff but he kept put his so-sharp-they-could-cut-bread elbows in my stomach so I gave up and he heaved a sigh of relief and snuggled up to pillow.

He is doing quite well, thank you!  He went to the movies with his buddies yesterday afternoon, and just left to go out Christmas tree getting and decorating with his father and brother.

Which means it’s time for me to finish up my shopping.  🙂

That’s good to hear! They really bounce back amazingly fast at his age. I’d probably still be lying around moaning and manipulating everyones’ sympathy! Guess I should get going on my list as well.

            Have a wonderful holiday!

I’ve been wondering something — do you know of affordable vacation cabins to rent that could house 7 people? A group of old friends from college get together every year and I was thinking of suggesting that this year we rent a place around here.

Hi Andi! Here’s a site with quite a few choices. Once the cost is split among 7, its not bad at all and many of them have hot tubs. Here’s another that’s close by and used to be really nice (also relatively cheap). The family cabins are private and sleep 8. No hot tubs, though.

You’re welcome! I’ve heard people book reservations one to two years in advance for October. Depending on the time of year, you’ll either have lots of choices or none;-)

We usually do it in spring or summer — so I think we’ll be okay.

Late April is actually my favorite time of year around here.

But gray winter day or not, the dogs are insisting we go for a walk. See ya later.

I’m late to the party, as usual.  I had a rude awakening at 4:30 AM when I shuffled to the bathroom and directly into a present left by Frank the Schnoodle who is visiting us until Sunday.  In my bare feet.

Now I really need some coffee before I brave the crowds at the grocery store.

Good morning Second Nature! We had a similar occurrence last night after one of the cats decided to have a little grass salad on one of her evening prowls. We managed not to step in it for a change;-)

Rude is clearly an understatement. What you loving moms do for your kids is an inspiration to us all [in my case — it inspires me to be endlessly grateful I didn’t have any. 😉 ]
