I don’t get to watch too many Yankees games anymore, but I did get to watch the last three games they played at Fenway Park. On Friday the Yanks swept a double header. I didn’t see those games. But I did see them beat the Sox on Saturday, Sunday, and this afternoon. Five straight games in four days. At Fenway. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Nope, doesn’t get any better than that. And for all the Yankees haters who say they buy their teams…this one is winning with rookies in key positions, and a designated hitter (Bernie Williams) who should have started his new career as a musician already. I love Bernie’s swing and I always loved the graceful way he runs.
Red Sox Nation?
pfffft….
Even more brutal than 1978.
I can hear the chants at The Stadium 50 years from now…

two thousand fou..or
I watched most of the games over the weekend. The Yankees are looking strong.
Some good trivia came out of the second game in the doubleheader. If you were watching it, you heard it, but if not, it’s a great question:
Who is the only player to have played in the current two longest 9-inning games?
don’t know. Johnny Damon?
Nope. I’ll wait a little while to divulge the answer to give others a chance.
OK. Anyone who wants to guess can still guess. Those who want the answer : Answer
Hint : The longest 9-inning game was Yankess vs. Boston on Friday night. The 2nd longest 9-inning game was in 2001, LA Dodgers vs. San Francisco.
Loved it. It’s always fun taking the Sux to the cleaners, but 5 in a row? Freakin’ sweet.
I happen to be a fan of the suckiest team in baseball at the moment. Maybe worse than Tampa Bay. The Mariners just got done being swept by Oakland (third or so time this year), then by Oakland (again), Texas, and Anaheim — in other words going 0-11 on an 11-game road trip and losing 14 out of the last 17. We’ve now been swept, in order, by every team in our division.
They’re so bad they just traded away their Opening Day starter and demoted a second starter to the bullpen because he he’s only won one game since June. And we still have a guy on the mound who hasn’t won any games since June.
Does it get any worse than that?
The only bright spot in all this is that we took three from Tampa Bay in between the two Oakland debacles. And our next two series are against the Yankees and Red Sox.
Stick a fork in the Mariners. They’re done. In fact they’re done for 2007. Makes me cry to think that just five short years ago they could do no wrong (until they got to the playoffs, that is).
baseball. blech.
can’t wait until football season. giiiiaaaaannntttsss!
