The clerk of the House lent competence and seriousness to an institution sorely lacking in both.

Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee promised he could drop Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama “like a bag of dirt.”

The Republicans won a majority in the House but not a functional one. The House has to function. 

There is no way the Republican House can unilaterally function to pay our bills or fund the government.

Even if he wins the Speaker’s gavel, he will be too weak to perform his duties or keep a hold on his position.
