Mojo has been defined as many things. Mojo is charisma, mojo is sex-appeal, mojo confers magical powers, mojo is what you get when people give you ‘4’s.
mo·jo (mj) n. pl. mo·jos or mo·joes
1. A magic charm or spell.
2. An amulet, often a small flannel bag containing one or more magic items, worn by adherents of hoodoo or voodoo.
3. Personal magnetism; charm.
[Perhaps ultimately from Fula moco’o, medicine man.]
Mojo
The word originally means a charm or a spell. But now its more commonly said meaning sex appeal or talent.
“I can get any girl if I just use a bit of the old mojo”
“Man, that girl has MOJO!”
“God help me, I think I’ve lost my mojo!”
Mojo (Marvel Comics)
This ruler of a distant planet enslaved its population to serve as entertainment. He stages huge media spectacles as amusement, and wants to use the population of Earth as new talent.
Mojo:
Mojo is slang for cocaine.

some of your mojo.
Did you lose Trusted User status:D
Hah-
I think Seattle Liberal has been mega-troll rating me. But I still have all the Powers of Mojo…bwahahaha.
Now don’t force me to enslave the BooTrib population to serve as entertainment and force you all to stage huge media spectacles as amusement.
“to stage huge media spectacles as amusement.”
Isn’t that called a Bush Press Conference?
have a 4 on the house
I have two answers for that–bad & good…
Before my blogging days, mojo was shorthand for mojado, or wet, in Spanish. Specifically it’s used as a derogatory term for “wetbacks” or illegal immigrants. As a Mexican American with semi-dark skin, and often mistaken for a recent immigrant, I would get called it on occasion. Not something I enjoy…
Fastforward to my current blogging days, and I see mojo as a way to (1) build community by showing you’re active on the site, (2) give affirmations where they are due and (3) frog-march any trolls from the site. Thankfully there have been little or no troll ripples in the pond.
So there you have it. It’s taken some getting used to, but the mojo is growing on me.
call it Mo to instead of Mojo, made me think of that when I saw your comment title get a motto. I think it was you anyway, Man.
First I thought you were saying it like we say mojo now, (i.e. lets give some mot/to.)
Mojo works for me, I’d rather replace the bad with the good. 😀
Diane, that doesn’t work. All I can think of when I hear that word is Homer Simpson going “mo. mo. mo. mo.”
It used to mean getting your groove on, like got my mojo working so it kinda fits here too imho. It is kudos, its being recognised as having something worthwhile to say. It’s(and I am not trying to be sappy)getting hugs and love when we all sure are in need of it. I love this community you are building here Booman and Tribe. Thanks for sharing a part of you with me.

It’s signalling that you have read someone even if you have nothing more to add, and that you appreciate the contribution. It’s counting and being counted on. It is indeed small gestures of appreciation or affection, just like a smile.
Yes, I like that: mojo is like smiles: giving it does not make you poorer and makes someone a little bit happier or grateful.
Combine Alohaleezy’s defintion and yours (as you’ve already done!), and that’s my defintion of mojo. Letting someone know that their thoughts were appreciated, and didn’t just get lost and go unread.
Now, if only some mojo could make my sinus infection disappear so I can make intelligble comments again!
4’s are like applause, a sign of the reader’s appreciation for a statement well-said whether it be serious or snarky. Getting lots of 4’s for a comment is like a standing ovation.
You’re right about it being a signal: Very often I rate and recommend without making a comment I don’t have the time to consider a comment or really have nothing to say but I want the commentour to know I liked what they said.
Mojo is when we catch Jerome slumming it in the “ordinary” threads with us plebians instead of singlehandedly keeping the EU in check…..;)
Mother Jones magazine.

Henceforth I will only be able to see you as ‘the friend of the Yemen Times’. In fact that may be worth mojo in some circles (most likely in Yemen). 😉
But seriously, much kudos to you for the frenetic efforts you made last weekend to save Amina. We’ll keep watching the case!
they say mojo is Middle 20th century slang for any narcotic drug, usually morphine.
Now, mojo may be addictive, but they need to update their slang.
Music.
“The Chinese attached a great deal of importance to the transcendent and therapeutic power of sound and music. Individual pieces of music were believed to possess an “energy formula” which in turn had the ability to exert powerful influences over those who listened to it”. [Peace University]
Audiences were silent until they could no longer feel the last vibrations from the strings. Mojo.
I don’t think Pat O’Brien has any left. Or will ever have it again.
had any mojo to begin with, but it’s gone for sure now!
did you watch the movie? I would seriously consider suicide if I had done what he did and had a movie like that made of it.
Poor Betsey, who’s “suddenly not into it.”
YES! Now, I have to tell you that I’m a bit jaded. About 20+ years ago, I worked in Beverly Hiils, on Rodeo Drive, for execs in the entertainment/legal advice business.
The stories I could tell. Especially about men in their 50s.
I worked with a woman who was 25. She was stunning. Angelina Jolie, eat your heart out, kind of beautiful. But, she told me, she was “too old” for those men.
Anyway, I think you’re right, Booman. Isn’t Pat married too, with kids? Wasn’t that why he gave up sports, and went to entertainment news, so he could spend “more time with his family”? (hmmm .. which makes me wonder if something happened years ago that led him to make that big move.)
He has Legendary Mojo
Oh yes. Forever.
Now, Al Gore, bless his good heart and good brain, doesn’t.
Mojo means never having to say you’re sorry. (OK, I’m dating myself.)
In the real world, it means something like ‘energy.’
As in “hope you recover soon and get your ‘mojo’ back.”
Maybe a combo of energy/talent/drive.
Americans always want a sexual connotation of course.
Like..That George Clooney..he’s got soooooommme MOJO! Yeah! Ummmmmmm..MOJO! Whoops..forgot where I was.
When I was a teenager here in Ontario, mojo was accrued to anyone who could get up at 8:00 am the day after a kegger and make breakfast for everyone. And do it with a couple of beers.
Duh…it’s the nickname for N.Y. Times columnist Maureen Jowd.
My Mojo is a hand sewn, beaded medicine bag that holds great power in my spiritual well being and growth. For it has and continues to act as a conduit for my continued openess to the Great Spirit who guides me in my daily life. It has brought me many great gifts in my life and has helped me become a better human being and more spiritual being.
It’s what’s keeping me from trusted user status here.
It’s what lets me let others know what I think of their ideas.
It’s gratification that what I said meant something to someone else.
It’s a nice surprise when you toss something out and people respond to it positively.
It makes me feel good.
A couple years ago some rocket scientist in the Seattle Mariners organization created the marketing phrase “Sodo Mojo” for the team. Mojo you know about, or don’t; “Sodo” is the abbreviation for “South Downtown,” the area of Seattle where Safeco Field is located.
It’s been downhill for the team ever since.
You have kids too, huh? I didn’t even think of Mojo Jojo!
She’s eight years old and wields the remote with an iron fist. I used to think I owned my TV. Now I realize I only paid for it.
She’s more into Rugrats, All Grown Up, Fairly Odd Parents and Avatar: The Last Airbender than she is Powerpuff Girls, but trust me, we know about Mojo Jojo.
Hardball is showing them all RIGHT NOW!
How much/what did they show? I’m sorry I missed it!
I’m surprised that this classic bit of mojo hasn’t be mentioned yet:
