Tom DeLay is starting to drag down his party. Why? Because they refuse to do the honorable thing and demand his resignation. In stead they are actually honoring him. Yes. The Republican party held a celebration of corruption for Tom DeLay!
Some quotes:
“Leaders of about a dozen conservative groups planned a gala on Thursday honoring the Texas Republican and they pledged to open the doors to every major news organization in town. DeLay was to be the final speaker.
Richard Lessner, executive director of the American Conservative Union, said the event’s participants have looked at the issues and questions raised about DeLay and “don’t think any of them rise to any level of gravity whatsoever.”
So, they want to celebrate their most corrupt member? Cool! Let’s challenge them on it. First, write letters to the editor expressing your disgust at the Republican Party’s celebration of corruption. Please write both national and local media.
Finally, now is the time to start supporting the Democrat who has already announced he is running against DeLay: Richard Morrison. What better way of punishing Republican corruption than helping to get them voted out.
Morrison may face a primary challenge, and if so I am not necessarily endorsing Morrison. So, a more candidate independent way to target DeLay in the next election is to support Democracy for Texas.
And for those who want to target Roy Blunt (Tom DeLay’s little lap dog and someone who is probably MORE corrupt than DeLay) support Democracy for Missouri.
Remember, it is the Republicans who tried to make morality an issue. We need to show them what real morality is. Corruption will be the issue that defeats them!
I am sending this off tonight and tomorrow morning in response to tonights Love-fest for DeLay:
Editor:
When Republican Tom DeLay got caught in massive ethics scandals I expected the Republican party, the party that claims to be so moral, to reject DeLay’s corruption and demand his resignation. That would have been the honorable thing to do. But to my surprise, the Republican party has instead embraced DeLay’s corruption and defended him. Now some three-dozen House and Senate Republicans have held a gala last Thursday actually honoring the corrupt SOB! Even such high-ranking Republicans as House Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri and Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman are attending this celebration of corruption. How disgusting!
The whole Tom DeLay scandal mess has made one thing very clear to me. The Republicans have no interest in morality at all. All they care about is power and money. I am disgusted by the whole Republican party!
Great letter. I’m crossposting it on wvgrassroots.blogspot.com
Thx for the update. Also wanted to add that Richard Morrison has decided not to run against DeLay. Here’s an article from the Hill on May 3rd. I think he has a statement up on his website too. Either way, we have to work hard to get a Democrat elected to replace Mr. Scandalous.
I had been seeing plenty of talk from Morrison saying he WAS running. Wonder why he backed out.
He dropped out for personal reasons, sound like alot of things hitting at once. (link to a Kos diary)
