Like Donald Sutherland said in Kelley’s Heroes: “Too many negative vibes, man”. Politically democrats hold a majority of the population; cracks appear in the BushWall daily; some democrats are talking to some republicans; the “Christian” right is on the defensive (they don’t know it yet); progressive campaigns at ground level are showing their muscle; and the “central planning” folk at both party headquarters are beginning to understand the power of the people.
Overall a half-full outlook, and pretty damn good for the first five months of WB II. Not that battles are being won, but skirmishes are, and that’s a change from ’01.
“You cannot take a railroad and have a right-angle turn in it…; you have to build a curve.” [Ike, Mandate for Change, pp. 136].
Gmail? What’s that? I am, however, having trouble with my e-mail addy that I used to have posted on dKos. It appears that the server which handles this account has been infected by a certain worm, allowing assorted Neo-Nazis to spam the Internet using my address as the return path. Some of you may even have received links to German publications from this account (tango@xinergie.org) – my inbox is flushed with delivery failure reports. Moreover, I just discovered that the scum are using it on various boards, like here.
And who I used to love the Neo-Nazis. This breaks my heart…
In other news, I was finally booted off Freak Republic for respectfully pointing out some facts about the USS Liberty, namely that it was in international waters, flying the Stars and Stripes, and eavesdropping on the Egyptians when nearly sunk by Israeli forces in 1967. By contrast, the ‘patriots’ on that board maintained it was spying on the Israelis!
Well, I lasted 8 months and 348 comments. Any better?
.
Great work Sirocco! I do hope you had enjoyable moments, knowing that … they didn’t know for so long!
The USS Liberty, whenever I see the ship’s name mentioned, I shake my head in absolute horror. That good man die in a war, is a fact. But to make offers for a political goal is a war crime.
Israel has never been quite the same since this treacherous act, and perhaps build further on the doctrine: “The end justifies the means”.
Yesterday, I couldn’t even bring up the gmail page. Got a message that said, “We’re having technical difficulties. Try again in a few minutes.” Also, my hubby sent me an email that took 26 hours before being delivered to my inbox. Hmmm… might be the Neo-Nazi worm clogging up the works. Or maybe the tech team that runs Orkut has been transfered to gmail. Gawd, I hope not!
Google runs on Linux so the worm shouldn’t affect its servers. It might be clogging up the pipes between Gmail and wherever you are, but I haven’t experienced any problems.
But then my expectations are notoriously low so what do I know?
On a positive note, I believe that Progressive/Liberals are making a comeback. I see the Neo-Cons losing ground and I believe they will renew their attack, but will fail miserably. I believe that 2006, will see a loss of seats for the Repugs, in both the Senate and House. I see Tom Delay walking away from the house as we are all singing, na na na, na na na hey heyyyyyyyyyyy good bye. I see Karl the Fascist Rove looking even more evil than he does, scratching his chin, saying where did we go wrong. We told the big lies, like our hero’s of the 3rd reich, he kept the pressure on the MSM to show America they were unreliable and biased. What went wrong? Well Karl, what went wrong, was you underestimated the resolve of real Americans, moderates, liberals and conservatives, because you thought you could create the 4th reich and you lose, now go away quietly and just be the bloated fascist that you are and leave America to real Americans.
That’s a tough poll Booman. Difficult knowing what to choose. I think you could have added one more just to make it even harder though and that would be the takeover of the Unreligious Right of our government.
What’s bugging me personally today…..when I do my daily charity clicking and I see every day that only about 7,000 people do this clicking while there are literally millions of people on the internet who could be clicking and making a huge difference in feeding kids who are hungary, saving acres of the rainforest and the oceans, clicking for Amnesty International, providing books to kids in this country ….
Seeing how this only takes me a few minutes at most and is free-corporate sponsors are the ones footing the bill for each click-it just drives me crazy that more people do not do this simple and painless way to help make the world better.
I probably sound like a broken record as I’ve mentioned this half a dozen times on this site but it seems important and as I said such a simple and easy way to make a difference. Especially for people who don’t have any money to spare or time or health does not permit them to be more active in any endevour to help in any physical way.
http://www.care2.com/click2donate/ Might be nice if I posted the link again after my little rant, huh. this is just one of sites I click onto every day…there are 3 that I do.
As I’ve said when I turn my computer on this is the first thing I do before I check my mail, read political news or come here to Bootrib. It’s such a minescule amount of time to do much good and for free that’s it’s just a crime more people aren’t aware of these sites.
http://www.redjellyfish.com/ I should have just posted all the links together. Anyway this site is cool also and has lots of other fun stuff on it with art, environment, petitions etc. And it has the best name.
Thanks for all the links. What a great way to just do something everyday. Not sure how I missed them when you put them up before, but thanks for doing it again 😉
I’m going to fix this soon. My programmer and I have been a little busy lately and we haven’t had time to play with and improve this site. But we will, I promise 🙂
Also, I tried to take a nap and after a half-hour I got tired of having my face licked by my dog and my arms nudged by one of my cats.
Well I say you’re doing a great job and not much to improve except for the regional thread deal. So maybe your animals are trying to tell you something…
Thanks again for the great job you and Susan did on the Newsweek story.
Can you add the “span” HTML tag alongside the “div” tag? Sorry if I’ve asked this before, but span would be useful for those times when you just want to use a short text decoration (like a strikeout).
You are in Arizona, right. Just had a thought maybe booman can just have east and west since there is hardly anyone on this site from midwest from what I can gather, just divide on the mississippi river.
I would rather see these tabs used for other things like alerts and archieved material, etc. But oh well.
Bottom line is that we are mostly interested in International things, rather than regional…..seems to me.
hey, now I am someone and I am in the midwest and I count don’t I and if I can make the longest run on sentence in the world I can be someone special, as having the midwest tab left as it is, which is ok, but hell I am a transplanted Californian and I rarely post to the midwest tab anyway, so take it away booman, I won’t cry. Pshewwwwwwwwwww
I only meant that that is where you live, not complaining, I hope you know, and besides I think Arizona is the West….What else could it be IMHO. Isn’t Tombstone there. That’s the West in my book.
Yep, Az here. Personally, I like having the separated regional threads. Maybe this is our wake-up call to start using them more for local politics. I’m usually ranting about some type of border/immigration issue here so I’ll make an effort to keep it on the West Thread. They’ll only get used if we post to them right?
Damn I missed it…oh well. Some wingnut on cspan1 was turning all red in the face and lying his ass off about the filibuster. Spewing venom like you wouldn’t believe. I thought he was going to have a stroke.
We clearly have the upper hand here. When the Democratic Senators speak they use facts, are clear-spoken, and show a respect for the institution of the Senate. When the Republicans speak, they repeat the Rovitt Talking Points (up or down vote, unprecedented obstruction, blah blah), and IMHO sound like whining brats. But I’m not biased. Nope.
Oh good. I thought so. Send me an e-mail. It involves poring through PDF docs that the ACLU got.. they look really boring and they’re hard to read. Now that I’ve won your enthusiasm…
Does anyone have links to the full transcripts of Osamma’s missives, not the cut down version we got here. I lost my links awhile back….Appreciate any help..

sniff They didn’t deserve me anyway…

I have noticed that occasionally gmail runs slower than usual. What problems have you been having?
I’m not receiving email, and if I try to refresh the inbox, it times out.
Yesterday, I couldn’t even bring up the gmail page. Got a message that said, “We’re having technical difficulties. I just got that same error message, also had it several times yesterday. Closed my window and tried again, and it connected.
By the way do you use the g-mail notifier on your toolbar? Makes it easier to open your mail. It doesn’t work with Macs, I don’t think.
On a positive note, I believe that Progressive/Liberals are making a comeback. I see the Neo-Cons losing ground and I believe they will renew their attack, but will fail miserably. I agree with you if, and only if, the Rethugs no longer have the keys to the ballot box.
I’m not holding my breath.
That’s a tough poll Booman. Difficult knowing what to choose. I think you could have added one more just to make it even harder though and that would be the takeover of the Unreligious Right of our government.

what a cool site, chocolate. What are the others? I know about the Hunger site, but wasnt aware of the one you just listed. Thanks for the link
http://www.ecologyfund.com/ecology/_ecology.html This is another site I do daily. It has several clicks to do. It will also lead you to several other links I believe.
As I’ve said when I turn my computer on this is the first thing I do before I check my mail, read political news or come here to Bootrib. It’s such a minescule amount of time to do much good and for free that’s it’s just a crime more people aren’t aware of these sites.

I’m with you ChocolatInk…Booman one more choice should have been …all of the above…lol!
Definitely.
All of the above, and then some.
These days, I’m hanging out with, and on to, the Buddhist sutra that says, “Things are seldom as they seem, nor are they otherwise.”
Ok everyone, especially us Westies, lets bombard the West which is at 265 comments and get it to the 300 mark so it will roll over…just way to long.
I love the idea of the regional threads but the rollover is to long…can you work on it Booman to get it to a more managable 150 or so?
I’m going to fix this soon. My programmer and I have been a little busy lately and we haven’t had time to play with and improve this site. But we will, I promise 🙂

On other thread I made some suggestions …
Here is a link:
Oui – Liberté – Egalité – Fraternité
as if you needed one . . .
Can you add the “span” HTML tag alongside the “div” tag? Sorry if I’ve asked this before, but span would be useful for those times when you just want to use a short text decoration (like a strikeout).
Thanks either way.
I will try to remember. Feel free to harp.
Poor you, with your too many comments. I feel so lucky when the Midwest thread gets its annual post.
If you have CSPAN, turn it on! Schumer is reading all of the judges’ names that have been approved. Let the games begin.
Hmmmm…me thinks its time for a break here at work. Running upstairs to apartment. See ya on the flip and thanks for the heads up Egee!
I couldn’t take it anymore, so I’m streaming CSPAN on my computer here at work, co-workers’ concentration be damned. 🙂
You are in Arizona, right. Just had a thought maybe booman can just have east and west since there is hardly anyone on this site from midwest from what I can gather, just divide on the mississippi river.

Tombstone was Ground Zero for the Minutemen Project. It seemed fitting to me…
I actually agree with you, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of midwesterners posting here, so why not just divide it down the mississippi river.
Yep, Az here. Personally, I like having the separated regional threads. Maybe this is our wake-up call to start using them more for local politics. any clue as to who that wingnut was, I like to do research on those kinds of wingnuts.
Sorry babe…I was catching it on the run. he was really old and had a hard time getting the words out. Stammered alot.

A few days.
Headed for a brief trip to Norway.
Back Monday night.
Have a safe trip!
Well have a good trip and hurry back to us, we will miss you. Be sure to tell us about your trip when you return.
Safe passage and see you on Monday!
Send pictures!
How do you say “bon voyage” in Norwegian?
Safe home.
God reise!
‘Good journay/trip/voyage/travel’
Oh, good. Another language fragment to learn.
“God” = “good”
“reise” = trip? journey?
Pronounced?
Good. Gud. Goot. ???
Reese. Rice. Raze. ???
As a follow up to last week’s report on Social Security Reform, the GAO released a new report:
SPECIAL PUBLICATIONS
Social Security Reform: Answers to Key Questions. GAO-05-193SP, May 2005.

I’m having no trouble with gmail at all that I know of. Of course no one’s sent me anything recently . . .
Within the Senate Rules thing: Trent Lott bugs me.
(of the nominees):
“…the senate has become a torture chamber…”
“…they are the magnificent 7…”
What can I say?
And, yes, control of electronic elections still bugs me, a lot.
Oh – one more thing:
when I scroll fast through a long thread, the little “rate” windows get all confused.
Anyone else have this? Has anyone solved it?
yup that bugs me too. I have no solution, except that sometimes (though not usually) when I scroll some more, it straightens out again.
know which browser you are using.
Firefox at work — hmm, not sure if it happens in Firefox. My IE is version 6.
IE, 5.5, with WIN ME.
Let the hissing begin.
And yes, a slow continuation of scroll, or a refresh, will clear it.
Just an annoyance, and not just this site, Boo.
